Event || In Your Worst Memory

Characters: All Heroes of Light. Only those who signed-up can start a memory.
Where: Interdimensional Rift
When: May 27th - May 30th
Summary: The Heroes of Light relive some of their worst memories, with a twist. All characters participating in this will be physically missing from Crystallis for the duration of the event.
Warning: It depends on the memory.

Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.

"Kali Shashidhwaja."

Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.

And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.

This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

[A mysterious girl shows up, he gets sucked into a void again, and he wakes up inside a modern theater.]

What's this? [He stands up on his seat and spots several others before the screen comes down and the scene plays. The first time, he gives it his undivided attention, and turns to Chiaki in surprise at the ending.

The first repeats goes on, but he doesn't notice. Why isn't Chiaki more unnerved by this? Unsure whether to address her or someone else, he twists his head around, attempting to catch someone's attention.
]

Is this some sort of movie--an awful one at that? Why are they showing us this?

It would be just like Monokuma to show something like this in a setting like this.

[Now that someone is talking to her, Chiaki finally breaks her silence, cheeks puffed out in as angry an expression as she ever manages to make.]

But no... it's not a movie. This really happened.
umslay: (replace1)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-27 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He returns to the film, paying closer attention to details.]

Who's the bear and rabbit? And...[He turns to Chiaki.] if this really happened, how are you even standing here?
line_piece: (sad)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-28 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
The bear's name is Monokuma. The rabbit is Usami. One was my enemy, and the other was my best friend.

[Her answers are a little short, because this is hard to talk about.]

...That part is complicated.
umslay: (thinking)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-28 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[So that bear is the same one behind all this. He watches Chiaki and Usami run down the same hallway as before, the tank crushing Usami's copies again.]

I'm sure it it. [Does Chiaki have extra lives or something? Did Crystallis revive her? A horrible idea dawns on Ales: maybe he died as well, in the explosion, and that's why he woke up here. The dead could come back in this world, so why not?]

Is this you last memory before coming here? [It'd be the awful kind of twisted if that was true.]
line_piece: (explain)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-28 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Chiaki was most certainly killed in this memory, in a certain sense of the word. But in another sense, she survived.]

No... not the last one. The ones after it are brief and hazy, but I have them.
umslay: (surprise)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now that takes his attention away from the video.]

Really? What of?
line_piece: (smile)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-28 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Chiaki spends a good minute or so thinking about her answer to that question and how she wants to phrase it.]

...Entrusting my hopes to someone very important.
umslay: (replace1)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-28 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[He deflates.]

That's a bit vague.

[The memory ends once again, and Ales is sure there was no way for Chiaki to have survived long enough to talk to someone.]

You don't have any ghost powers, do you?
line_piece: (huff huff)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-28 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No, not ghost powers.

[Chiaki hesitates a little.]

Do... you really want to know? Will you promise me you won't tell anyone else if I tell you, or treat me any differently for it?
umslay: (omg)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-28 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ales stays still for a few seconds, then nods.]

I promise I won't tell. [He leans in closer.]
line_piece: (explain)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-28 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[She leans in, keeping her voice low. This is a thing she's told other people, but still a thing she only wants to share on her own with the people she chooses.]

I'm an artificial intelligence. A program that exists only inside a computer.
umslay: (neutral)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-28 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[He raises his eyebrows, but other than that, he doesn't seem to react.]

And yet you're out here...?

[That would explain why she'd want a computer so badly, if that's where she usually lives.]
line_piece: (Default)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-29 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I don't completely understand it either. I'm willing to chalk it up to magic and leave it at that. But the important thing isn't how I'm here. It's that I am. And if I'm here, I want to help this world however I can.
umslay: (quiet)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-29 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have much expertise with advanced computers, much less beings that only live inside them, but I'd say that's a reasonable explanation.

[He looks back at the screen.] So you were "killed" inside a computer?
line_piece: (sad)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-29 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. Inside a simulation. I was placed inside it as a safety measure to keep an eye on the other people in it. I won't explain it all now, but... things didn't exactly go as planned.
umslay: (replace1)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-29 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[He wants an explanation on "the other people" sometime soon, though.]

So this Monokuma wasn't supposed to be there, right?
line_piece: (explain)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-29 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. He was basically a virus that found its way inside the program.
umslay: (thinking)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-29 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
So all your memories...you'd been living inside a computer all your life. That explains a lot.[There it goes: Chiaki is crushed on-screen again.]

What did you mean exactly by "entrusting your hopes to someone"? Is that a code for something computer-related?
line_piece: (smile)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-29 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shakes her head.]

No. That meant exactly what it sounded like.
umslay: (omg)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-29 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Do computer residents have some way of communicating with each other after death? What does death entail for them? There are too many questions.]

Remember our conversation, on the airship? You were asking me what to do with scientists were working for the bad guys. Since you're all artificial intelligences, I'd think that scientists were the ones you created you. [Pause.] What was the Monokuma virus trying to do?
line_piece: (explain)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-29 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember. The Monokuma virus was trying to continue the spread of the despair that had already engulfed and nearly completely destroyed the world. I was created by an organization called the Future Foundation that was trying to stop it and heal the world.
umslay: (oh dear)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-29 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
By "the world", are you talking about the world outside your computer?

[That's dark.]

Was someone else able to stop it?
line_piece: (smile)

[personal profile] line_piece 2015-05-29 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right. And I don't know. That's why I had to trust them.
umslay: (thinking)

[personal profile] umslay 2015-05-29 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
But can they do it? Were they also created to fight the virus?
