Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.
"Kali Shashidhwaja."
Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.
And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.
This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

[Chiaki frowns, pulling the hood of her white mage robe up over her head. A gesture similar to one she used to use at home with her hoodie.]
...I'm fine. I've made my peace with what happened, but having to watch it happen over and over again is cruel.

[Yuffie begins to look around, completely ignoring the screen or the constant wave of questions nagging at her thoughts.
She lifts up the seat next but finds nothing underneath.]
Duh, there's a door. [She turns to look behind them thinking that movie theaters have doors right?]
no subject
There's not.
[It would never be that simple. Chiaki knows without even looking. No one who sets up something like this makes it that easy to ignore or escape.]
no subject
So what do we do?
[She sounds like her bubble has been popped. She doesn't want to be stuck here.]
no subject
[Chiaki looks back at the screen, watching herself be blown to smithereens by tank shells.]
Usually when something like this happens in a game, it only stops when the person whose memories are being displayed either has a total breakdown or accepts what they're seeing.
no subject
Do you plan to do either of those?
[She isn't bad at reading people but Chiaki's expression has left Yuffie unsure. She's usually more animated than this.]
no subject
[Chiaki looks up and around at the black emptiness of the theater.]
Is that right? Is that what I'm supposed to do? Do you want to hear me admit out loud in front of my friends that I have no home to go back to, even if we save this world? The Neo World Program doesn't exist anymore.
no subject
I don't think the room is going to respond.
[She looks around trying to find someone to talk to.]
Is saying it out loud really believing it?
no subject
[Chiaki sighs, shaking her head.]
I did what I was supposed to do in my old world. I finished every task I was put there to complete. I didn't have any regrets at all over it.
[And then she looks back at Yuffie.]
But that turned out not to be the end I thought it was going to be. I came here instead, and it was like a bonus level I wasn't expecting. I've made friends here. People I trust. People I wish I could stay with.
[Hanging her head, her hands begin to tremble.]
...But I can't. I can't do those things. It would be too selfish. I should do what I've always done. Believe in everyone, never give up hope, and fight for a brighter future for this world.
[It's a good twenty seconds or so before she speaks again, and it's very quiet.]
...
...But I'm afraid.
[And just like that, the screen goes dark.]

[Yuffie reaches out for her friend scared to lose her in the darkness. She wants to tell her that it's alright to be scared. That she doesn't have to be alone, that things don't have to be that way. She wants to protect her. She wants to comfort her friends.]
no subject
[The memory is fading around them, but one last thing is audible before it dissipates completely.]
...don't forget me.
