Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.
"Kali Shashidhwaja."
Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.
And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.
This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

His gaze moved to Terra again -- the man who bore his likeness, rather -- and his eyes narrowed, unseeing.
"...I don't even know what my present is," he said quietly, bitterly. "I was... okay, with not knowing before, but..." He hadn't needed all the details; he was fine with gaps in his past and present. But that was before, when he'd been foolishly holding onto the hope that everything had turned out all right in the end. Aqua was okay, so there was that, but... how could he ever face her now?
His fists tightened, as did his voice. "Past or present, it doesn't matter! I can't do anything about any of it!"

"I'd do anything for my brother because I love him. If he did something to protect me. I'd be happy. I don't think you can change the past but we can change the present." He looked back to Ven.
"And that's a rock fact." He didn't know if that made sense but he hoped it did.

He knew what Greg was trying to say, or he thought he did. It was true he couldn't do a thing about what had happened here, but that didn't make it hurt any less. As for the present... He still had that. Just like he still had a future -- he and Terra and Aqua, all three of them, even if they were scattered and changed -- but right now, he didn't care. Right now, he wanted to be weak and childish and shut everything out, because who was here to tell him he couldn't?
But... that wasn't what Terra would want. He already had his regrets about what happened; if he saw Ven like this, wouldn't it make him feel worse? Not only that, but Terra had stayed strong despite everything. He had kept going, kept fighting, not curled in on himself like Ven was tempted to do now.
Thinking of it like that helped a little, but it hurt, too.
Terra... what happened to you?
"I know," he said finally, quietly. "It's now that matters. But..." He stared at the strange man's face -- similar to Terra's, but too sharp. Too cold. The eyes were all wrong.
Ten years sleeping, maybe more. Ten years added to Terra's age would be...
"...he's always protecting me. And even though I know something's wrong... I can't do anything to help him. It's not--!" --fair, but he bit that back. That really was being childish.

"You might be small now but you'll grow up to be big. Just like Mr.Frog here." His from croaked and then jumped down from his head. He was staring up at Ven as if the green creature could understand their conversation. He had a family, brothers but he's a frog and so that family was gone; off somewhere but he was still an amazing frog.
"Never give up Ven."
Greg smiled a little wider.
no subject
He stared at the frog for another long moment, and then looked at Greg. Ven still couldn't manage a smile, and he wasn't prepared to just pretend that everything was okay; all the same, he could do what Terra had done in the same situation. He could look outside himself, for now, and focus on the little boy who was doing his best to cheer him up. He could hurt later, once they were out of here. Wherever "here" was.
Ven snorted quietly. Not a laugh, but as close as he was getting to one.
"Who're you calling small?" After a moment he shook his head once, slowly. "I'm not giving up. I just..." No, no excuses. "...You're right. I need to grow up sometime. And I will." Even if it meant that he couldn't go on hiding under the wings of others -- but he had learned that already.
no subject
"If you need to grow up then that means you're small. Doesn't it?" He smiled making a point that Ven was small even if he was taller than Greg. Greg's frog croaked and the boy smile wider. "Mr.Frog agrees!"
"That's two against one." Which meant Ven was out numbered and the ruling was: he's small.
Greg held out his hand to Ven giggling happily. "Let's find our way home together."
no subject
Momentarily, Ven reached into his pocket and pulled out his Wayfinder, studying it, much like Terra had done just a little bit ago. He could hold onto his friends -- cling to them, even, when he had to, but not like this. Not in a way that only made him regret. They had too many good memories going for them to do that.
He wasn't okay, not yet. All the same, he'd lingered long enough.
So, slowly but surely, he reached out to take Greg's hand and nodded once, mutely.
no subject
His eyes looked up at Ven. "It's okay. We'll find your brother too and we can all go home. Then there will be no ore nightmares." No more beasts and no more darkness. Greg didn't understand fully but it was bad and he wasn't going to let people be left with bad things happening to them.
He'd save them.
"When we get back we can have soup!"

And then he turned away for the last time, forcibly putting it all behind him. The next time anyone looked, that lone figure would be gone.
"Right," he agreed quietly, if a little absently. "That sounds nice." He paused, and then added more attentively -- more genuinely, "Thanks, Greg."
no subject
Greg didn't stop smiling as they moved, he guided Ven away from his dream and as quickly as the scene was present it slowly fell away. There was darkness and then nothing as they parted ways and moved to another memory.
[ooc: Figured that was a good ending place <3]
