Event || In Your Worst Memory

Characters: All Heroes of Light. Only those who signed-up can start a memory.
Where: Interdimensional Rift
When: May 27th - May 30th
Summary: The Heroes of Light relive some of their worst memories, with a twist. All characters participating in this will be physically missing from Crystallis for the duration of the event.
Warning: It depends on the memory.

Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.

"Kali Shashidhwaja."

Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.

And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.

This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

"I wasn't sure," Robin admitted with a moment's hesitation. It didn't look like he could use a sword, if she was to be honest, but she decided against admitting that. She raised her hand up, though, as some Risen broke past Chrom. Three rushed them; but then Chrom went airborne, spinning as he did, and descended on one. The Risen crumpled to the floor, the Falchion stabbed clean through its body. It shuddered and spasmed, before its body broke away into a waft of ash and dust.

The silver-haired woman aimed at the second Risen. She held her palm outstretched; lightning danced over it, before it loosed and fired into the approaching Risen. The first shattered apart with an explosion of lightning. She turned, aimed her hand for the second--

--and the bolt of lightning shot over its shoulder instead. "Look out!" she cried, as the Risen came charging at her and Ales both, its axe raised. She started to prepare a second spell, but she couldn't know if she would be in time. "It's coming!"

Magic. There was a lot of magic in Robin's world, too, and that's what mostly likely created the Risen. Of course the ominous man tampered with magic to cause chaos in this world, if the memory was correct. But it wasn't the time to bemoan the terrible uses magic had. A monster was heading their way.

Ales lifted his sword, carefully pointing it at the Risen. If he were fast enough--and he was sure he was--he could avoid that attack and counter it with the sword. With that plan in mind, he waited until the Risen was close enough to hit him, then jumped to the side as it dropped its axe, clipping his coat with the axe.

"Ah!" He forgot to take the weight of the sword into account! He was lucky to still be alive! As the opponent slowly heaved its weapons back up, Ales swung the sword. He hardy made a cut, and the Risen only looked more irritated.

Oh no, Robin thought. Ales's attack hadn't managed to cut into the Risen enough to stop it. Indeed, its head was turning with a terrible, jerking motion to look right at Ales. Those terrible red eyes burn brightly when the Risen glowered down at him.

Robin didn't hesitate for long. Magic flashed up around her hand, lightning winding over it, and then fired in a straight shot that rushed towards the Risen. The beam of lightning caught it and hurled it back into the wall. It struck with a crack -- and then it vanished in another burst of ash and dust. Robin looked at it, then down at Ales.

"You okay?"

At that moment, being stared at by a ferocious beast, something inside Ales told him to distract the monster and run away. But where? He didn't recognize this area, and that dark man could have minions all throughout this building.

He didn't have much chance to think over that plan, as a bolt of lighting hit the Risen behind its head, and it burst into ash. Robin was standing behind the cloud of dust, looking concerned.

"Terrified for a moment, but I'm all well now." He pushed himself back up and held the sword up to Robin. "You can take this back. I can look for some other weapon to fight off these things."

The others seemed to be faring much more well, and with their powers combined, the hoard of Risen were slowly being picked off. "How many of these were there?"

"There weren't any, at first, actually, but--" Robin frowned. "It was a dream. I suppose that changed. We..."

She considered for a moment. Chrom had the other Risen in hand, now. She sized them up for a moment, and then she looked at Ales. That left Validar; he was busy directing the Risen. That left her the opening that she needed. Her jaw clenched shut for a moment while she thought.

"We could make for him," she said. "If we fell him, gods hope that it will be enough."

"At first? What changed?" Her uncertainty did not make matters any better. If she were just reliving a memory, why would she still be worried about the monsters? There was something off about this, but Ales wasn't sure what.

She was right. Validar was occupied with managing the Risen, and taking out the leader would make the battle much easier.

"A sneak attack, then. How far can your magic reach?"

"They weren't here, when I see this as a dream," Robin said. She frowned. She didn't like that. She shook her head, though, because what could she do? They were here. Whatever it was, they had to deal with it, and this was no place to try to formulate a complex strategy.

"I'll need to get closer," she said. "And I don't think I'll get him in one strike. Can you assist me?"

"Dream?" He looked at the horde of Risen and back to Robin. The monsters shouldn't be here? "Then was is that man supposed to be doing?" Either way, Validar was distracted, and it meant it should be easier to get to him than it actually was.

"Of course! What do you need me for? Distraction? Just don't dangle me in front of his face, and I'll be fine."

"He normally fought Chrom and I directly," she said. Robin hesitated for a moment. This could still work -- even better, perhaps. If they distracted Validar, maybe that would make this dream play out differently. She considered for a moment.

"A distraction would be perfect," she concluded. "I'll hit him with everything I've got, then!"

There was no time to ponder the situation, but Ales couldn't help but wonder why this memory wasn't completely accurate. Was it because she had others helping her fight?

He nodded. "I'll run in front of him and try to grab his attention. I trust you to hit him." Now unarmed, he was much more nimble.

She nodded in kind. "Right. Leave it to me!" She gripped her tome, checking everything over, then looked back down at Ales. "I'm ready when you are."

"Hm."

Without giving any other kind of indication, he dashed off to a corner of the room. Several Risen were in combat with another Hero, but he managed to avoid their gazes as he ducked behind a pile of ancient tools. Of course, Validar had to notice the small blue creature running in front of him, especially when it was gathering up several supplies.

Ales had a plan of his own. While Robing was working on a sneak attack, he's work on building a makeshift lightweight weapons of his own. He wasn't going to depend on anyone's magic with his life!

An angry yell was his cue to jump out of the pile and start running behind the pillars, and Validar took a step closer. That Teensie was trying to be sneaky and must be stopped!

"Gh--what manner of beast is this!?" Validar spat, the tall and gaunt wizard turning after Ales. He held a hand up; a bolt of darkness shot off the sorcerer's palm, but slammed into a pillar instead of Ales. Dust and rubble flew free where it nicked the side of the pillar, but no serious damage was done.

That gave Robin the moment that she needed. She moved up close enough to get in range of Validar, then spun on a heel. Her huge coat trailed after, swirling in the dark and musty air of this place. She pointed her own palm at her, and let out a wordless shout as lightning crackled over her palm. It formed into a single colossal beam of lightning.

She hurled it forward like a lance; the beam briefly connected her palm to Validar, and the massive blast of lightning hurled the sorcerer back across the battlefield. He slammed into a wall with a crack. In turn, he send a wave of dark energy flying. Black energy, tinged with pulses of purple, struck Robin. She yelped and flew back towards a pillar with a crunch.

"It's futile!" Validar shouted. "My victory... is assured!"

Ales squeaked as he curled around himself and sad behind the pillar. He had never been directly attacked by offensive magic like this, and the noise did not help. Once the dust settled, he lifted his jacket, which he was covering his entire snout with. Now he got it all dusty, and just when he got it back!

But there were more important things to attend to. Another crack resounded from behind the pillar, and he poked his head out just in time to see Robin be thrown into another pillar.

The sneak attack didn't work, but there was a pile of metal rods and rope in front of him. With the little time he had, he began fashioning a makeshift spear, keeping the sharpest bit of metal at one end. On the other was a wide handle that would make it easy for him to wield it and thrust upward into Validar's back.

Said man was in the middle of gloating over his temporary victory when Ales was finished. Checking that he wouldn't be spotted, the Teensie dashed to a closer pillar, his black jacket hardly noticeable in the darkness of the temple.

Robin wasn't down for the count, at least. While Validar didn't notice that Ales had moved behind a column, she had, and she knew that meant that she needed to buy him a little time. She raised her hand and fired another blast of lightning. This time, Validar ducked to the side; the bolt of energy slammed into the wall instead, exploding off it.

Validar sneered cruelly at her, lifting his hand. "Enough! I will end this charade here!"

Darkness swirled and gathered around his hand. It pulsed with a dark energy, as he began to prepare a more fearsome spell -- but his back remained turned to Ales.

The ropes were tightened. Validar was distracted. It was now or never. With the path clear of fighters, he heaved the contraption into the arms and makes for Validar. At one point, his gathered dark energy pulsed out, sending a slight gust that causes Ales' hat to tip over, but he took a slit second to stop and correct it.

He slowed to a walk once he reached the dark mage, just in case he could notice someone approaching with that magic sense of his. Ales rests one end of the weapon on the flow, aims it, then pulls the lever.

Validar prepared to throw his arm in Robin's direction. "Begone!" A sharp pain overtook him, and he let go the spell in shock. Instead of hitting Robin, it went straight to the floor by a small flock of Risen, turning half of them into duster and the rest flying off into different directions.

Validar bellowed in shock, as he obliterated some of his own Risen. One of the ones fighting Chrom vanished in bursts of dust, as the sorcerer screamed and groaned in pain. Robin wasn't quite prepared with her own spell, but the Ylissean lord saw and opening and took it.

With Ales distracting Validar, there was nothing to keep him from stopping Chrom. The blue-haired man charged, leaped, and did a midair spin . Falchion swept down, and struck into -- and through -- Validar's torso.

The mage groaned, collapsing to the ground in a heap.

Chrom watched him fall, then turned his head, and looked sideways at Ales. "You did well, friend," he said. "We're in your debt."

Ales stepped back, and not a moment later, Chrom leaped into the air and struck Validar. He ran around the two men, keeping a safe distance, and watched as the mage fell dead.

"No problem," he replied. "It's a good thing you were able to get him while he was distracted." In truth, he was thankful that Chrom admitted how important he was to killing the dream villain Finally, he directly stopped an evildoer instead of sitting back and waiting for others. He could protect others successfully.

"And how's Robin?" He turned to his teammate by the pillar.

"She'll be fine," Chrom said, with a nod. He nodded at Ales, before he started walking over closer to her. The prince knelt down next to her, smiling.

That was when Ales might have noticed his sudden incorporeality. Robin did, too -- as when she next looked up, he wasn't there.
