Event || In Your Worst Memory

Characters: All Heroes of Light. Only those who signed-up can start a memory.
Where: Interdimensional Rift
When: May 27th - May 30th
Summary: The Heroes of Light relive some of their worst memories, with a twist. All characters participating in this will be physically missing from Crystallis for the duration of the event.
Warning: It depends on the memory.

Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.

"Kali Shashidhwaja."

Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.

And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.

This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

Ven's attention had returned to Terra -- more specifically, the words being exchanged between him and Xehanort -- but he heard Cloud all the same. By now, Ven had seen a couple types of memories, so the inability to intervene didn't come as all that much of a surprise.

Not that it made this any easier to bear.

"It's..."

"You know, at times I find your progress quite striking. But you still fall short. Let all that anger out, my boy. Give your heart over to darkness!"

The shock and sorrow in Ven's face flickered then, hardening to anger. He never felt the impulse to lash out at anyone, not physically, but right then he wished he could, and his previous relief at the true Xehanort's absence managed to evaporate.

"It's from my memory," he finished quietly, fists clenched. "But... this part's not mine."

He hadn't known this much. Xehanort had wanted something from Terra, but... what did giving in to darkness have to do with it? Power? But Terra would never do that -- and he would never show loyalty to anyone who harmed Eraqus.

"We can't stop it. I already tried."

Cloud frowned as he watched the exchange. He wasn't sure exactly what they were talking about, but he could put the pieces together well enough. The younger one was doing what he could to protect Ventus but it looked like the old man had other plans.

Under any other circumstance Cloud would have been tempted to try to interfere anyway. The defeatist tone was a flag he carried around too often in his own young life and one he was learning to do without. But he'd been stymied in the other memories he'd floated into and understood what Ventus meant.

But even so...

"What happened after this? Did you see him again?"

It took Ven a moment to realize what Cloud had said. His attention -- his anger was fixed so intently on Xehanort, while his sympathy and urge to help kept prompting him to look at Terra.

Slowly, he nodded, but it was stiff and slight, barely visible.

"There was... a fight, after this."

On cue, Xehanort confirmed: "--the place where all Keyblade wielders leave their mark on fate--the Keyblade Graveyard! There you will watch your dear Ventus and Aqua meet their ends, and the last light within you will die!"

It was enough to make Ven flinch. Anger, guilt, shock, realization -- all of that, even before the sky suddenly changed color and the wind picked up. And just like that... just like that, the once proud and invincible Land of Departure was torn to pieces.

"You won't need a home anymore where you're going!"

If ever Xehanort had needed a testament to his strength, that was it.

"Xehanort!"

It felt familiar, the darkness and the destruction -- as if Ven had seen it before without realizing -- but it was still painful to watch. It still stunned him, enough that he momentarily forgot about the presence of any observers, Cloud included.

Ventus wasn't the only one who flinched. Cloud listened and watched in shock as the memory continued to play out around him. Ventus seemed like such an upbeat and happy kid before now. Had he really gone through this?

The images of Nibelheim burning, the memories from his future self flickered in Cloud's own mind. Disaster could strike at any moment. And some were able to carry it on their shoulders better than others.

Looking around at the crumbling land, Cloud put a hand on Ven's shoulder. "Come on. We can't stay here."
makingfriends: but your words aren't you (I trust you more than anything)

"No." The objection was out of Ven's mouth without conscious thought, before he'd even realized it. He took half a step forward as if to brace himself against being pulled away, although he had nowhere to go. Nothing to do, now that this was locked away as history. He couldn't change a thing. Even so-- "Terra, he..."

It wasn't Terra. Ven knew that. It was an illusion, a very realistic memory -- he had seen several of these before now, had adjusted to the idea pretty well after the first. And yet now, confronted with his own... he couldn't totally write it off as intangible. Not when Terra was this close.

Except... it wasn't Terra anymore. Even as Ven watched, he changed -- not much, but enough to be obvious. His hair, his eyes, even the way he carried himself just by standing there -- it was all wrong.

And then just as quickly, he was older -- different. Way too different to still be Terra. This was someone else entirely. Someone with skin too dark, hair too long, a face too foreign--

--and then again, a final change. A man who was still too old, who seemed to be a blend of all the faces Ven had just seen. Hair and build akin to Terra, but the eyes, the face... Ven knew Terra. This wasn't him. Not then, not now, not ever -- the coldness of his features, that calm yet intimidating aura... this was someone else.

Ven took a step back, nearly backing into Cloud as he did. It wasn't out of fear, necessarily -- not fear for himself, at least. There was shock, there was confusion, and then there was a flicker of anxiety -- but it was for Terra. Whoever these people were... were they tied to him somehow? And that first change, when he had still looked mostly like himself...

None of it made any sense.

As much as he had wanted to stay before, now Ven didn't. He wanted to leave, to get away from this uneasy scene as fast as he could -- but guilt and concern held him there.
