Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.
"Kali Shashidhwaja."
Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.
And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.
This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

He seemed surprised, honestly. That a stranger, someone who was uninvolved and unaware, would bother. These were his memories, his phantoms and regrets. His punishment and sin. Kindness from another was an unusual concept to him regarding them.

Then turning, a breath in and out, and pointing to the scenes being replayed. "Dr. Lucrecia Crescent." Identifying the female, giving some context perhaps. "I had been assigned as her bodyguard."

She watched as he moved, noting those details. Someone used to the dark, who had walked in it- But she held herself still, eyes on his, ears flicking briefly when she realised how much taller he was than she'd first thought. The gauntlet and cloak stood out, though- was that connected with these memories somehow?
She looked back at the scene, and nodded. "It seems the sort of task you'd be suited to," she said. Someone who could quietly watch another's back, not alerting any intruders to their presence until it was too late… "What kind of dangers did they anticipate?"

And Turks always completed a mission.
It had become passion too, with Lucrecia's smile, her warmth. He'd been hurt when she'd pulled away, after he found out she'd worked with his father. But he hadn't blamed her for his death. He didn't blame her still, even as he was sorrowful he couldn't go back and spare them this pain.
He never had fully figured out what had driven her to Hojo. What had driven her to participate, experimenting on her own child when she had seemed so warm before. As bodyguard it wasn't his place to question, but as a man... Well, the results of that conflict were currently playing out for any who watched.
"She was an assistant to the project. The other in the memories..." His expression remained stoic, but there was a gleam in crimson eyes and an undertone of pure hatred in the cool voice as he continued. "was Professor Hojo."

She went quiet for a moment, looking over the scene for any further details. One ear flicked back for a moment at Vincent's voice, wondering- what had sparked that? "The leader of the project, I take it."

"You have the pieces now, if you wish to make some sense of what you see."

Indeed, if he recalled--they had been trying to create a superior human-Ancient hybrid. There had been more, but Vincent had concerned himself primarily with relevant details of the Jenova Project: S. That had been part of his mission briefing, when assigned as Dr. Crescents bodyguard.
"Things unrelated to that experiment were complicated in unfortunate ways" It was amazing how he could keep his voice so dispassionate, when clearly he was the same man in the memories. Who'd felt such emotion at the time, as to make him speak out and question.

No doubt whatever length of time had passed had had some effect. "Outside elements, you mean?"
no subject
That was alright with him.
"No. It wouldn't be until later that outside elements interfered." He had found that out much later, after 30 long years of sleep in a coffin. Interrupted only once, and then he had returned to his exile. Until Cloud and the others had awakened him once more.
There was bitterness in his voice now as he spoke, self-derision. "Certainly, you can see for yourself the complications. It's being played before us as we speak." No, he had been the complication. His feelings, his emotions. He had learned, and paid dearly for it. Until that mission, he had been a model Turk.
no subject
She glanced at him, one ear twitching slowly. "You cared," she said, carefully. If that was considered a 'complication', then… that surely meant the people involved hadn't wanted him to. Hadn't wanted feelings, and that seemed incredible to her. "And they… had no room for that." She tilted her head, inviting confirmation.

She turned towards him, frowning. "What did they think of you?" she asked.
