Meetings and Strategy

Characters: NPCs and the Heroes of Light.

When: 10th July | 12th July
Summary: Characters all received a Mognet Letter informing them of the upcoming meeting. It happens in the reunion room in the Castle of Aqures Ixen. If you . Characters who received Kurma's letter will be able to meet him on the 12th of July.

She nodded, absorbing the information. "That seems a sensible decision on their part," she said. "I doubt the Empire will simply stop their assault on Esdham to attack us. All the more reason we need to be sure that we are working with each other, rather than at cross purposes."

That got another nod from her, ears to attention. "I'll play my part as best I can." She hesitated a moment, tail flicking slowly. "Have you any thoughts on why the Empire has decided to move now?"

"Hm. More likely if they manage to take Aqurean territory they will use it as a springboard to attack Esdham from both sides at once." Though really, Sephiroth was sure K'pandolu was already aware of the geography; learning such had been one of the first things he'd studied up on when he'd first found himself brought to Crystallis.

Ever aware of his appearance whilst in uniform, the Major simply nodded in further reply; it was imperative that all of those staying behind did manage to work in tandem which is why he were lingering around all of said groups as if patrolling to keep an ear open for anything that might need to be put down before it was sparked too keenly.

Sephiroth didn't notice the gesture her tail pulled off, having also settled his attention on her face but he did tilt his head a little down at her while he replied to the last question.

"I have suspicions, but everyone's theory could be as viable as the next persons. Especially considering I was out of action for a couple of weeks."

It wasn't quite the same as seeing it herself, but it had only stood to reason. "All the more reason to make a stand here." If they succeeded, there would remain only the one front in contention.

She nodded. In all honesty, the military situation would seem reason enough- but it was still curious. "In stasis?" She remembered a letter to that affect, she thought. "If you'll pardon the question- do you have any memory of what that was like?"

In stasis, or removed from being in Aqures Ixen on account of returning to work just before the coming battle had been discovered. It didn't matter, the fact that Sephiroth had all reason to consider himself out of the loop would be the same.

He blinked twice, almost surprised at K'pandolu's question. Of all of the questions, he hadn't been expecting that to come up at a meeting which had nothing to do with-

"I do not." It was out of his mouth before he even thought too much about it, the space between his eyebrows furrowing further into a frown as the comment led to another; but only after he resolved that there was very little reason to keep it to himself. Sephiroth did lower his voice, though.

"I came back with a different recollection of events that had happened back home though. Before all of this. Like I'd suddenly remembered but for some reason hadn't known before."

K'pandolu nodded, tucking that information away for now. Now probably wasn't the best time to look into that, but she was curious. And assuming they came through this, she could investigate further then. "That sounds as though it would be strange to wake up to." She bowed slightly, one hand over her heart. "Thank you for indulging me."

She straightened, ear flicking as she considered.

"Strange is indeed the best way to put it, point of fact."

Sephiroth wasn't about to go into details regarding the fact that he'd remained in the hospital for several days after the fact to attempt to resolve the knocks to his sense of reality and time that his displaced recollection had triggered. Especially since he had resolved to put it firmly to one side so that he might continue with moving forwards in the here-and now.

He didn't need it looming over his head while he had to plan for a war.

"Going back to the topic at hand." He picked up after an extended silence, as if to firmly direct his thoughts in that way as well. "I will say this though, the force that is expected to fall upon the City is considerable in size. It's important that we try to convince as many citizens to leave as possible."

K'pandolu nodded, accepting the change of direction. "I'll be a part of that effort," she said. "One of the others suggested going district by district, and I agreed to cover the fourth." She paused for a moment, thinking. "Do we have a list of volunteers for the task? It would make sense ensure the districts have all been covered at least once."

"We've nothing quite so organized yet, but as I said, the general defense of Aqures is to fall to the Law Enforcement. You might want to take that suggestion up with Mars- Inspector Nevada."

It wasn't exactly her fault but K'pandolu had inadvertently made him feel like it should all be better planned out by now than what it was. The attack wasn't expected to hit for a few weeks yet; they had time to get everyone out who would go. It was those that were left that Sephiroth could see being an issue. The last thing he wanted was the deaths of half of the citizenry hanging around his conscious; then again strictly speaking it wasn't his responsibility.

"We may have to consider using one of the districts as a garrison, to prevent them from swarming over the City with their superior numbers but everything is yet to be finalized."

K'pandolu nodded, making a note of that. "I'll do that, then. Thank you." for this- for all that was to come.

Perhaps it was more than should be expected at this point- but the better to gather ideas, and put them together in time.

"To keep them in place? One of the outer districts, I take it?" It made good strategic sense, if she thought about it. They'd have to try and ensure those districts were completely evacuated, then.

"Yes." He answered shortly, his upper lip curling a little as he thought more on an idea that had only recently come into his mind.

"It's much more efficient, given our resources, to hold off on one or two fronts as opposed to several. A lot of consideration will have to be put into which district though; there are points of interest in every district. Not to mention architecture that's been here before we came...I'm not sure if it would be right to write something like that off as collateral damage."

"That's true," K'pandolu acknowledged, and frowned, thinking. "I doubt we'll be able to entirely keep the buildings from being damaged, wherever we fight… I take it that would fall under Inspector Nevada's purview as well, then?"

"Right." Sephiroth acknowledged, resolved for the time being to put these concerns into a box in his mind for considering later on. There was a lot of planning left to do still and exactly how they might use Aqures Ixen to shore up its own defenses was yet to be determined.

"We have, at least, the advantage of home-turf. There may yet be certain streets that we can effectively blockade as well to enforce a crowd controlling tactic."

K'pandolu nodded. "Then that should go into the consideration for each district," she said. "As well as the potential barricades we can raise. I'll see what other ideas I can gather."

"Exactly. There are main thoroughfares I know well enough from the time I've spent here." A light grin formed on Sephiroth's mouth while he rested on that thought; coming to terms with the common sense that had landed him with the job of heading the military force. While he wasn't a local, he did know Aqures Ixen better than most Esdham soldiers.

"By all means, any potential strategy we can use should at least be considered."

He then nodded, indicating clearly that it was the end of the discussion for now. Sephiroth was never one for small talk and they had chatted a lot more than he was comfortable in doing already.
