Jack and Spark's magical attacks distract the Red Scorpion from Ramza's sword slashes, which seem to bother the metal behemoth very little. Still, it seems no more ineffective than the magic, so Ramza keeps it up. He tries to aim his blade at the joints in the machine's legs, hoping to hinder its progress.

So far, they haven't hit the Scorpion's weakness; darkness, fire, cold, it all seems to do the same. There's a bolt of fear down his spine as he sees the tail of the mech raise and start to charge. Move. His automatic dart to the side puts him out of his attacking position, as the beam fires, bright and loud-

Past him. He's okay. Heart stopped for a second there, but he's okay. Jack whirls, checks to see that both of his companions are still moving. It's okay. Even the giant Magitek Armor is still moving?

The armor is indeed still moving; it's fairly deft for its size, and Sparks had started moving as soon as the Scorpion started to charge. As much as he wanted to take care of this thing fast, they had to be as careful as could be around this thing. This machine was the most dangerous thing they've had to fight yet.

Since elemental attacks weren't working, Sparks would stick with the armor's normal attacks. As he runs, he lets loose with the machine gun bullets. Once safely out of the way of the laser for the moment, he switches to the laser. They seem to work about as well as the elemental attacks, much to his dismay, but at least he doesn't have to waste energy on useless attacks.

The Scorpion is still fully focused on the bigger threats in front of it, leaving Ramza free to keep on attacking. As the machine charges forward, Ramza lets it pass and attacks it from behind. Most enemies he has encountered have decreased defense from behind, and it has the added bonus of keeping him out of Spark's line of fire.

He continues to hack at the joints of the Scorpion's leg. If he can manage to cut through the appendage, it will hinder the machine's movements and give them the advantage of speed and mobility.

Jack can only thank forces he doesn't believe in before he closes distance for another attack. He sees Ramza's strategy, and he'll have to join in. His much heavier sword might have a better chance at cleaving through one of the leg joints. Metal scrapes across metal in an impressive ringing sound. He knows he did some damage, because he feels the pull of magic behind his attack, but it just isn't enough. A frustrated yell escapes him. "Tell me we've got something bigger?"

"'Course I do."

Sparks pulls the trigger for his missile attack, but there's nothing but a hollow click. He'd run out of them too quickly, thanks to all the battles he's been fighting. However, it was a good thing Elixirs existed, as thanks to them he still had the energy to keep fighting. Instead of using an armor attack this time, he runs up close to the Scorpion and lets loose a Thunder Slash. Tough or not, machines don't fare well with strong lightning attacks.

It does, bring him a little too close to the danger of the tail attack, though. He attempts to back off as soon as he can.

Spark's lightning attack does more to harm their foe than anything Ramza has done so far. Ergo, keeping Sparks protected from the Scorpion's attack is the best strategy Ramza can come up with to keep the hospital safe.

With Jack taking over the leg assault with his wider blade and magical reinforcement, Ramza ducks back around the Scorpion to help cover Sparks as he moves out of range.

"How long can you keep that up?" he asks the Marshall, as quietly as can still be heard over the clanging of steel and the crack of gunshots that fill the city.

OW, Jack's never been right next to one of those when it went off before, so he has to shake his head briefly. Still, there's a lot more smoke coming out of that thing now than there was before. All right.

If the goal is to keep the thing from getting in to the building, then Jack has to try for a Break attack. His sword briefly charges before he slices, but he can feel the magic dissipate off the Red Scorpion's hull. Petrify? Not a thing that'll help.

"Reckon I got a few more. But don't come cryin' to me when ya need to be healed later."

Sparks looks more than glad to unleash some more lightning attacks, but he probably only has enough energy for two more at most. He's spread too thin after all the fighting, but he's not about to admit that.

He took off again and then came in close to the machine to let off another Thunder Slash before backing away, but he's not as quick as he was the last time.

In spite of Sparks' bravado, Ramza can see how drained the other man looks. Not good.

Luckily, Ramza has tried to compensate for lack of job skills with preparedness. He pulls an ether from his belt. He doubts the Red Scorpion will stop for a refreshment break, so he does not bother drawing near Sparks to hand the potion over for drinking. There is more than one way to skin a coeurl.

The little glass vial goes sailing from Ramza's hand and crashes into Sparks' head.

Ramza turns back to Jack and the Scorpion, a health potion at the ready should Jack require similar treatment.

Jack looks at Ramza like he's crazy for a second, did that actually work? This place is nuts. But he shouts back, "Save it!"

He's absorbing enough health from his Dark Knight attacks that he doesn't need it. Even a simple slash regenerates his health. He still doesn't understand it, and intends to have a very long talk with Chiaki when things are quieter. But, for now, he can only focus on the leg in front of him, hacking away again, again. Spells won't shortcut this, so he has to take it out on raw damage.

The potion smacks into the side of Sparks's head, catching him off guard. He's about to yell something at Ramza, when he can feel the effect of the ether kick in and he realized what just happened.

"Y'know, yer lucky I don't need to spend a spell on getting glass shards outta my eye."

He should really pay attention, though, as he looks up in time to skitter out of the way of another laser attack. His eyes go wide as he notices how close he was to getting fried for good, but is back in form fast, casting another Thunder Slash.

Sparks gripes about the potion, but Ramza shrugs it off. It worked, and that's what matters.

"Shout if you need another," he tells Sparks before ducking back around the Scorpion's thrashing legs to resume hacking with Jack. He picks a different leg so that they won't be in too close of quarters to swing properly.
