[Perhaps it was the unseen influence ShinRa had left on both men. Perhaps it was a similarity Vincent had seen in Lucrecia, at times--so dedicated to her work above all else. Perhaps it was simply the power of observation and intelligence.

Vincent understood that unspoken question very well. Understood the dedication that drove the other man. Before he had turned into the nightmare they were seeking, he had heard others speak, checked records himself. Quite a thing to be seeing himself, and Vincent understood all of as he studied the other man.

Glancing over at the other runner, another hero? She seemed so young, and he doubted the military here would allow one that young to enlist. Nor did she seem to have the temperament.]

Perhaps a compromise then, sir.

[Respectful, once again treating Sephiroth as if he were Veld. As if Vincent were reporting in, dealing with his fellows and superior in the Turks. Voice still low, pitched only enough for Sephiroth and the other hero to hear.]

Sit, let us bring you something to eat, and eat it while planning. One can go a while without food, or sleep, but not both. Consider it a form of multitasking.

[There might've been a small smirk on his face, seen at the corner of his mouth, with the last statement. Not a true break, not as good as any of them--especially Sephiroth--needed. But enough to sit, to not be quite as on point, while still available.

Once more giving his attention to his companion Hero-messenger.]

My name is Vincent.

I'm Nanami. It's nice to meet you, Vincent-san.

[was that a surname or a given name. Who even knew...]

And yeah. If you aren't going to sleep, eat something. Take a break and rest your eyes.

[Vincent is probably seeing a hybrid of all of those things. Sephiroth had a determination rarely seen in anyone who worked for the ShinRa company and it was at least a small part of why he was so good at what he did. Vincent might not have been around, but arguably the worst thing about how Sephiroth had turned on the whole human population might be the fact that he'd been so idolized beforehand, and justifiably so. The stuff of legend - it's little wonder why the company would come to strike him off as 'killed in action'.

Yet he still can't quite get used to how Vincent addresses him as a superior. It felt strange in the meeting prior to the battle - it felt even more alien now. Though; protocol was to be upheld. As carefully as Vincent studied him, it was Sephiroth's turn to carefully look over the other man. Nanami is all but disregarded for that moment; a true sign that his ability to multitask must be lessened by a lethargy that's kept carefully under wraps.

But after a long moment Sephiroth still doesn't answer even after the two have introduced. Furthermore, he's lowered his gaze and looks pointedly in a direction that's not anywhere near Vincent and Nanami. Weighing up implications, possibilities. He has a slight feeling of disgust on his face, feeling weakness press on his mind where it's not needed right now.]

I understand your concerns. [A small nod, albeit not a very resolved one. But it did come with something of a gentler smile.]

I'll try to get a break soon.

[They were right, after all. Sephiroth needs to remember that his mind and body aren't anywhere near as capable given as a vital element to that sharpness is rendered null and void in Crystallis.

No matter how he wants to deny it; he's tiring and he knows it.]

[Vincent's posture and expression remained neutral and professional. One could easily see him in the blue suit and tie of the Department of Administrative Research. The manner was like a well-worn glove, easily slipped into. Crimson eyes met luminous green, and the same professionalism remained--except a small concern. Seen, as Vincent was aware of how much Sephiroth pushed himself. Had seen it in others.

He gave a small nod, when he mentioned he would take a break.]

I believe Ms. Nanami and myself, will hold you to that.

[It was in the same usual deadpan tone as Vincent usually employed. Voice low, neither warm nor cold. If Sephiroth hadn't been so tired, he might have caught the barest hint of amusement on the tail end of the comment.]

We certainly will!

[It was weird being all protective and things; normally Nanami was trying hard to protect herself so she couldn't care about too many others. But... well, if the army failed, so did everything else.]

[Easy for Sephiroth to see the same considering he'd seen Vincent's memories before. His eyes were as luminous as ever -no sign of the mako-hue fading just yet- and made even more so by how his pupils were tiny slits as he gave the other man a long look.

As it is, Sephiroth doesn't pick up on that tell-tale hint of amusement on the end of his tone; truth be told he had a great deal of other things to be perceptive about on top of his growing tiredness.

He huffed something of a single, dry chuckle as Nanami answered and then pulled his arms up into being folded across his chest. It always made his shoulders look bigger when he did that; easy to imagine the silver armor that would usually sit atop them.]

I need squads to standby in Echo 2 and 3- [Back to business, he straightens up. Not that he'd even realized the slight slouch to his own posture] -this apparent inferno couldn't have gotten so large without being noticed before. I need them ready to move out as soon as that report comes back.

[Vincent gave nothing away as he was scrutinized once more. His own Crimson seemed brighter than normal, albeit the hue was natural. Fading-evidence of his own past as an experiment. He nodded though, when Sephiroth huffed and 'gave in'.]

Would you like me to report back after delivering that message, or stay there on standby?

[Assuming that he'd be the one to go, and Nanami'd stay here on standby.]

So, do one of us go to both and the other stays on call here, or do you want us to go one to each?

[she was feeling... tired, but not too tired. She could make another run.]

['Gave in' would never be directly mentioned and it's good that Vincent already knows as such, no matter what information he might have based that guess on. As far as Sephiroth is concerned he accepted the advice; he may or may not act on it later.]

That would make it quicker, for both of you to run it. There is not any need to wait for a reply, but of course if there are any messages to return you may as well pick them up at the same time.

[He looks pointedly at Nanami again, having seen her face delivering messages for a fairly long time already. Though the concept of time is rather skewed surely she wouldn't deny the same advice being given to her.]

Afterwards, I do believe that you are well overdue for a break.

[Turning the majority of his attention to his fellow Hero-messenger, Vincent nodded to her.]

If you would take the closer base, I can also remain on standby while you rest, Ms. Nanami.

[It went unspoken that he'd keep his eye on Sephiroth as well. Make sure the other was at least attempting to take some form of break. Even if only for a few moments to eat.

Waiting only for confirmation that this plan was accepted, before Vincent would head out for messages. He was tired, but mentally at least, had been used to this kind of pace once before. He would be used to it again.]

That sounds like a good plan. This battle is taking forever.

[She didn't mean to whine. She meant to sound haughty: why couldn't the Empire just stop. It didn't work.]
