[ The familiar face gives a prompt, tiny bow following. He wasn't expecting to actually run into anyone he knew and actually be the one to greet them, but, he'd been quiet enough their past few spaced out encounters at the hospital, it felt like it was finally a proper time. She had been wearing her shorter hair, of course; and even if Minato didn't have know about significance of it with her past or any personal aesthetic opinion on it or anything along those lines, it did remind him he didn't keep a close enough eye on a team member during that time. The doll wasn't a friendly thing, either.
In short: He felt a little bad. Checking up on her was the least he could do, and anyone who visited the hospital that regularly without being injured themselves clearly had wounds of their own that couldn't be seen. He's not going to pry deeper into there, that's none of his business--He's just hopeful for the time being, she was fine. ]
Passing the time with stories?

M-Moogle-san? My name is Sein, kupo...!
Sein, he didn't mean anything by it. [Or so Tear assumes, at least Minato hadn't decided to call him 'Thing' instead. Turning to look at him better she offers a small smile, not at all opposed to seeing him despite previous experiences.] I am, there are a number of tales to Crystallis that might be worth taking the time to listen to.

I see. I didn't really pack a lot, [ --And so, not really have many ways to pass the time, other than semi-begrudgingly talk to people, idk. ] I wonder how long the trip's going to be.

With a sigh she simply pats his head, returning her full attention to Minato rather than her pouting moogle.] I heard someone from the crew say it would be hours... It makes sense, given we're travelling quite a distance to get to this new area.

I see... yeah, it does. [ He rubs his cheek, not really sure if he should delay about asking or not... the last time he tried to set up a proper atmosphere for an apology, he ended up embarrassing himself because of how little the other party thought of it. Maybe this time around he'll just take a subtle approach rather than anything outright. ]
... Have you been doing okay?
no subject
That's why her smile is only just there and she doesn't entirely look at him in the face, but she nonetheless appreciated his concern.] I've been... all right, returning to being on more active duty for the military.

[ He believes this is the first he's heard of it... his surprise is low-key, but obvious. Somehow, he never expected it with her personality. ... With that said, what happened last October was probably something very small, to her, as much as Minato had subconsciously pegged it a failure in his leadership. ]
I see... have you been doing that a long time?
no subject
Here in Crystallis... I joined little over two months ago, but in my world I was also part of the military faction of the world's religious order.
[ Peeking up at him through her bangs, her expression seemed just a little sheepish. ] Honestly... it's something I trained for nearly all my life.

[ He gave her a small look to wordlessly ask and verify if she'd be alright with him sitting close-by beside her and continuing their conversation; Minato usually hated to get too involved, but he'd be lying if he said he wasn't wondering about what it must have been like. It's not like he can imagine such a thing, for himself, who's been avoiding responsibility and duties so many years.
He didn't want to put any pressure on her... so if she ever elected to not answer, he wouldn't be offended. He doesn't maintain eye contact, either. ]
Did you like doing it?

As if sensing his Hero's discomfort, Sein at once floats over to take his place in Tear's lap, looking up at her with quiet concern as she naturally wrapped her arms loosely around him. But if any of that made Minato think she wasn't going to answer him, well... ]
It was my duty, and I performed it well. It felt... good, when I made my instructor proud and would meet her expectations.

[ Only a little... In his mind, he hasn't been actively trying to please anyone in years.
He adjusts his seating position, eyes remaining on the floor. He had a feeling this was approaching some territory in which he shouldn't pry... but if he was careful, perhaps this would be alright. She always had the option to stay silent, or send him away, and he wouldn't mind. Why was he prodding this much, anyway? He himself, didn't understand it. Neither did he try however to stop his curiosity. ]
Would you call it an ambition?

The city I grew up in had a very specific role and purpose in the world I come from, so everyone was expected to contribute to it in some way when the time came. Becoming a soldier was the one that seemed to make the most sense for what I wanted, I suppose.
[ Though a moment later, the tiniest smile is on her lips again as she looks ahead to the sky. ] I actually didn't know girls could become soldiers, until a friend I had told me so.
no subject
So... even little Tear-san was already practical. [ It almost sounds like teasing, but these were just his honest thoughts. ]
no subject
But such a statement makes her blink in surprise, recalling someone else saying similar things so many years ago. ] I... suppose you could say that?
no subject
... "Scorer"? [ That doesn't sound like a familiar job to him, and Minato's mind immediately went to like... keeping track of or updating sports scoreboards, or something. --And that probably wasn't it, if it was a significant and religious city, it was likely less mundane, and much safer than being a soldier if her grandfather had gotten involved.
He returns her glance with a small nod. Minato notes this is the first time he's seen that half-a-second expression like... this. Did he hit some kind of nerve there? He hoped not... Getting into this type of personal backstory territory was already making him feel strange, yet, he didn't feel like he entirely hated it. ]
Knowing what you want or having a direction is a good thing... [ It's not like he knew anyone who wanted to dispute this. ]
no subject
It can be... Maybe I was a little too focused, one of my instructors gave me a hard time about it.
[ Though thinking back on it, she had much to be grateful to that instructor for. ]
no subject
Or maybe adults are just never happy one way or other. [ The snark is delivered in a fairly lighthearted way, and Minato's expression is wry amusement. ] Isn't the usual thing to be complaining about being unproductive?
no subject
[ It might make her 'old' according to some, but what point was there in denying that truth? ] From what I know, my instructors strongly disliked each other, the last one in particular was especially harsh on me.
