Tifa would have given him a smile, a sign of being happy to see him here before her when they'd been separated for so many weeks, had she the right mind to do so. Rather, her expression carries a level of grief that Cloud has never known before. If only he'd come from a different time, a point further into their future where he would recognize the pained look in her eyes. It's the very same strained look she kept when holding her Father for the last time. Her assumption that she'd once again be clutching the lifeless body of a man she cared for was unbeknownst to him, but she knows it's the only way.]
You came..
[At a cautious pace she raises a single arm, holding out her hand to him as her eyes go wider. The red hue in her auburn orbs grows far greater than they normally should, a sign that her actions are not her own any more.]
You kept your promise to me..

Quite unarmored like the other blonde hero, MarKus set down a heavy pack and took up his hammer. By the red glowing in his eyes, he could grasp who the enemy was, but that stand off prompted further words. "Hey, you know her?" he asks flatly. He didn't need but one word for an answer, but he was ready for the fight either way.
"She's hurt people, you know. Whether or not she's herself." MarKus spoke louder, not even to either person, but rather to hype himself. "Either way, Justice WILL BE DONE!" he says smashing his long-handled hammer into the ground and leaving it there.
Tension rising. Mood broken.

"What's with all the melodramatics over here?" A fan of blades adorned her belt but other than that she didn't seem ready for combat, she was just here to talk.
"Before you go yapping off we should figure out what's going on." Yuffie should never be the voice of reason because she just sounded odd.

So when MarKus started spouting stuff about justice he took a step in front of the guy. Zack can look pretty intimidating when he wants to and now is one of those moments. He looked every inch of his six foot one and the sword strapped to his back was as big as Yuffie was.
"We're not here to serve justice, we're here to save her." His hand landed on MarKus' shoulder. "So be a hero and help us."
Or else you'll deal with me his tone seemed to imply. Zack wandered away from them to move closer to Cloud and Tifa though he doesn't interrupt. If anyone can through to her, it's Cloud.

"There's something very wrong going on here, but if we can solve this without fighting, I think we'd all like that." He nods towards Cloud and Tifa. "You think he can get it done?"
no subject
"Yes. I've known her since we were kids." And then to Tifa, "The promise. You're in trouble right now aren't you?" Given how things were going at the moment it was an obvious point, but he wanted her to know he was there for her, even if he hadn't come specifically to save her. He was going to keep that promise made on that starry night.
He opened his mouth to speak again and then doubled over in pain. His right hand shook as it clutched his left arm, and his face went pale. It took a moment before he could fight through the pain and gasp for breath, a cold sweat rolling off his brow, "H-how can I help you? What's going on here?"

"Jeez... guy can't make a dramatic speech around here..." he complains trying to mask his embarrassment. Still, he mutters, "Sorry...", as he turns his head away. To him it looked like one of those 'You have to beat sense into, or out of, your friends' situations and he just wanted to steel himself for it.
Only to make a proper ass of himself in the process. "Oh Yuffie... those are yours. The one that comes back is the one we need to keep." he says, kicking the satchel over a bit.

"Open your eyes. You wanted to be strong, didn't you?"
And still she waits, standing more like a fixture in the forest than a woman. If not for her speaking, she'd blend in with the trees as they stand stiff and still.
"Brush off your face, stand up."
Her eyes are only focused on Cloud, not looking to the other who have approached her. She recognizes a few of them, not bothering to address them or give any sort of care to their names. In a matter of moments it will no longer matter what bonds they may share. The absolute truth is upon them, and it is far too late for them to see with those clouded eyes just what the Calamity truly means.
"You're a man, aren't you? You won't be a hero looking like that."
He offered. Cloud wasn't here for opposition, but rather to lend a hand in order to see that her purpose was fulfilled. She shouldn't have doubted him, but there was still one last test of loyalty to be done.
"Help me.. Help me by making these fools see how blind they've been. We have to stop them from disrupting the ritual, at any cost."

Unlike TV however she could talk back and so she did. She walked forward standing next to Cloud. "HEY! Is that anyway to talk to your friends! That what you said right? We were friends! SO don't be such a Jerk." She wanted to throw something at Tifa but she only had the bag of pointy things that she had just stashed away. She liked Cloud and didn't know much about Tifa other than what the girl had told her. She wasn't going to be ignored and she certainly wasn't going to let someone say horrible things like that to someone she liked.
"I didn't know you were so heartless. Guess this is really you, huh?" She rested her hands on her hips, challenging Tifa to go on.

Then he stood and faced Tifa, both hands resting on his waist as he debated what to do next. "I don't know what's gotten into you, Tifa, but I think that disrupting this ritual might be exactly what you really need."
Especially considering the fact that she's teamed with Sephiroth for this there had to be something influencing her. It's not something he says out loud though because the others don't need to know that the silver-haired general lost his mind once before and it's a good chance that he has again.

Unless, of course, one of those friends seems to be determined to antagonize her. Kaji does a double-take at Yuffie (another one who's just a kid, why does this keep having to fall to people so young?) and his hand starts to go out to stop her, but he draws it back. 'This is really you?'
Kaji's question goes out to everyone. "Is this actually your friend that we're looking at, here? Or is this just more of the magic that's been jerking us all around since we got here? Showing you all the one face you won't attack?"

All that bravado to put him in higher spirits and he turned out right after all!
"I think it's brain washing." he states, putting his hands on the handle of the long hammer. But she was a stranger to him entirely. Her friends were around and already Yuffie was on the side of 'she's being a B'. "So... if you're against knocking some sense in, or out, of her... I can only see this going horribly wrong." Even when trying to pick his words so he didn't upset anyone who could easily cleave him in half... he probably stuck his foot back in his mouth anyway.

When he glanced back at Kaji and MarKus on the other hand, there was a pained expression on his face. 'Is this the girl you know?' No, she wasn't. She was older. She looked like she had been through more. This wasn't the Tifa he knew, but he knew her well enough to know that it WAS still her. "I...She's..." He closed his eyes and looked away and his hand settled on the grip of his gunblade.
But he wasn't about to betray them. He wasn't sure what was going on, or what was even the right path, but all of this just felt wrong. He didn't want to draw on her, but attacking the others wasn't an option either. He glanced at Zack and met his best friend's eyes. He would try to talk her down, but if it came to a fight...if it came down to a killing blow...he wasn't going to be able to do it...
"Tifa." He stood straight as he could muster, pushing back the pain, "Please don't do this. Stand aside. I don't want to fight you."

When her eyes look back to Cloud again, they no longer hold the same amber color he's known. A flash of red, the hue of fresh blood, now colors her vision as she looks deep within Cloud, piercing past his gaze to strike at his heart with words to support her cause.
"I thought better of you. You'll never be a hero if you cling to these people. You're trapped in a lie, and you're too stupid to see it any other way."
With a step forward, the woman dips into a fighting stance. Not even once does she flinch or blink at the uneven numbers around her. It was a crowd against her, but the weight of her purpose was like an army pushing her forward.
"Come on, then. If you won't listen, then I'll beat the truth into you. I'll break every bone, crush your ribs, smash your skulls, if that's what it means to save this world."

She didn't care if they were 'friends' or if it was someone Cloud was close to. Tifa had crossed a line and it wasn't just her purpose. If she was only trying to fight for what she believed in Yuffie could respect that but this wasn't that.
Her words were like daggers. She didn't know if Tifa was trying to hurt them or convince them, either way it was wrong. "Let me show you what a hero is like."
Yuffie flicked one of her new blades to her hand and threw it out towards Tifa. It looked as if it would hit but it was clear the little blade wasn't coming back like it should. "MarKus!" He did say they were tests but having to reach into her bag messed up her rhythm.
