Forest Core
This thread is for when the Heroes will reach the forest core after Kobato led them to it. ]
Sparks Nevada
Sparks stands guard over them, arms folded, a serious look on his face. He's wearing his paladin armor and his robot fists. It looks like he might be ready for a fight, if anyone gets close. For now, he's keeping a close eye on the Moogles, and on Genesis. They better not mess this up. It was critical that this ritual succeeds, and Sparks is going to make sure it happens.]

She might still have a few feelings left for Sparks, which was why she had gone off as soon as she could. She knew that at least Cactoid Jim would be after her. Red also wasn't sure just what her feelings for Sparks were right now. She had gone off to try and figure that out before she arrived. She stopped a good distance from Sparks, just staring for a moment and waiting to see if anyone else dared to show.]

Kaji approaches cautiously, and glances at Red. The way she's looking at Sparks, she's clearly here for the same reason. He'll be the first to speak up. "Marshall?"

...Reckon y'all should just turn around and get outta here, if'n ya know what's good for ya. It's too late for y'all to be involved in this.

[Ashelia appeared behind Red, having followed her when she separated from the others. Red seemed upset - she had good cause to be, but Ashelia worried the other woman would do something reckless.]
What is going on here?

Genesis Avatar
To become the dew that quenches the land
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice
[ He tossed it back into the pile and turned on his heel, his coat flaring out around him. Energy sparked up along his body as he spread his arms open, his single wing stretching out as well. A pulse of light, a sharp intake of breath and Genesis became something more. Half buried in the ground, the huge creature brought its sword down in front of it and several shadowy forms appeared where it sat. Five of them stayed by Genesis Avatar but the rest moved to stand with the bosses. ]
Genesis Avatar
[Yuffie watches his display and for the first time in his presence feels fear. She isn't sure what is going on anymore. She doesn't move closer but instead stays back and continues to watch him. Hoping that he might offer an explanation of his own accord.]
Genesis Avatar
Genesis Avatar
It isn't fair. None of this is fair and it only served to anger the young Wutai princess.]
Sephiroth (Prior Boss-Battle)
He can't help but smile, mostly to himself as Genesis' shadowy forms began to mill around his position before the ritual arrangement in the eerie purple lighting of the clearing. While there is a mist around, it wasn't softening the definition with which he looked around. In fact, he fancied he could feel the power building in the air; all of it that would be his upon the completion of the ceremony here. To enact the Calamity's will.
The climax was on the way, the Heroes should be arriving soon. Sephiroth found himself waiting eagerly in anticipation for their arrival; he has no illusion over the fact that there might be those weak-willed enough to consider to try to stop them -so entirely controlled by Biggs, Wedge and Jessie- but in the end whether by his blade or his words, the outcome has to be the same. They will all have to be destroyed, either way.]
Sephiroth (Prior Boss-Battle)
[Zelda breaks away from the crowd of heroes, running towards her friend. She stops short and looks up into his eyes. All the heroes who had disappeared were here and she doesn't know what it might mean. Her questions repeat in her mind over and over again as her gaze takes in the sight around her.
The air is filled with a purple hue that gave her pause. She can feel the tension in the air rising but cannot place what it could mean.
Her eyes search for some clue in Sephiroth's expression but she finds nothing.]
What's going on?
Sephiroth (Prior Boss-Battle)
She can tell right away that something is wrong. But what could have happened to him? What is he trying to do? When she finds her voice, it comes out hesitantly. And still ever so slightly hopeful.]
S- Sephiroth?
Sephiroth (Prior Boss-Battle)
[At first it's Zelda that draws his attention, her unmistakable voice from the group of Heroes preceding her breaking away from them. His mako-tinted green eyes are as vivid as they were before he died, looking down at the blonde and then across to Ib as she too came over.
He knows these two, something akin to instinct tells him, yet there is something in the hollow way he holds his expression that tells them that friendships now won't make a difference. They have all been mistaken, and there is only one way to fix it for them.]
It's like Yeul said, we all have to gather together, to prevent a great catastrophe. It will all become clearer, once the ceremony is completed.
Sephiroth (Prior Boss-Battle)
Tell us what is going on then? What is this ceremony?
We can help you.
[Zelda's tone is firm while still keeping its soft, sweet pitch. She is tired of the questions and she hopes that someone would be able to answer her. Her eyes look at the scene behind Sephiroth and her worry only grew.]
no subject
But he's still her friend, so she can't turn away. Zelda being there also helps bolster her courage. After a moment of hesitation, Ib steps forward again.]
Sh- she's right! You're our friend. If you just tell us what's wrong, maybe we can... help you....
[She's still desperately and naively hoping there's a good explanation for all of this and they can settle everything peacefully.]
Please?

Tifa Lockhart | Prior to Boss Battle
The familiar sound of materia clicking into the hollowed out recesses in her mitts echoes while the din of her other companions drowns out the silence of the woods. That glow, the comforting, reassuring hum of light is the only thing standing by her now when she needs all the support she can get. There's a bit of fear at the back of her thoughts, the realization that those whom she had been close with might come to the clearing.
Out of sight, out of mind. Would she see him? Would he be so clueless as to try and object to what she's been charged with? It was her responsibility, no.. THEIR responsibility to see that The Calamity come to be. If Cloud or Yuffie tried to stop her, could she bring herself to quell their insurrection?
The cracking of her knuckles, the resolve evident in her smirk, the way she cackles under her breath when she finds her fear laughable, all of it giving credence to her decision. There was no other way to make them see, and if it meant killing to see this to the end, so be it.]

He should have been worried when she didn't show up after he posted his notice. In truth he had been avoiding her, even after their talk in the hospital. He didn't want her to see him like this: injured, sick, weak. And yet in spite of his condition he kept forcing himself out to help with patrols because of that same fear of letting her down.
The heavy armor he wears amplifies the sound of his steps, heavy plodding in the dirt and twigs snapping under his weight. The blonde soldier has gone pale and every small motion of his left arm sends pain through his body. It's been days since he's looked at how far the blackness has spread. He can't bear to look at it.
But the pain running through him up to this moment fades as he feels a sharp pang in his heart at the woman standing before him and his small group.
"T-tifa..."

Tifa would have given him a smile, a sign of being happy to see him here before her when they'd been separated for so many weeks, had she the right mind to do so. Rather, her expression carries a level of grief that Cloud has never known before. If only he'd come from a different time, a point further into their future where he would recognize the pained look in her eyes. It's the very same strained look she kept when holding her Father for the last time. Her assumption that she'd once again be clutching the lifeless body of a man she cared for was unbeknownst to him, but she knows it's the only way.]
You came..
[At a cautious pace she raises a single arm, holding out her hand to him as her eyes go wider. The red hue in her auburn orbs grows far greater than they normally should, a sign that her actions are not her own any more.]
You kept your promise to me..

Quite unarmored like the other blonde hero, MarKus set down a heavy pack and took up his hammer. By the red glowing in his eyes, he could grasp who the enemy was, but that stand off prompted further words. "Hey, you know her?" he asks flatly. He didn't need but one word for an answer, but he was ready for the fight either way.
"She's hurt people, you know. Whether or not she's herself." MarKus spoke louder, not even to either person, but rather to hype himself. "Either way, Justice WILL BE DONE!" he says smashing his long-handled hammer into the ground and leaving it there.
Tension rising. Mood broken.

"What's with all the melodramatics over here?" A fan of blades adorned her belt but other than that she didn't seem ready for combat, she was just here to talk.
"Before you go yapping off we should figure out what's going on." Yuffie should never be the voice of reason because she just sounded odd.

Snow Villiers [in prep for boss battle]
Stepping away from the center of the clearing, he headed towards the tree line in order to get a better vantage point. There was a lot here that he didn't understand in terms of procedure, but then again, he didn't really need to understand. The moogles and Genesis seemed to have everything under control. Snow would've just been in the way if he was any closer than the very edges of the clearing.
He would be lying if he tried to say he didn't feel anxious, though. The others would be here soon. What if they didn't get the message right? What if they wouldn't help? What if they wouldn't listen?
The wounds were too fresh. The Black Crystal had restored his control and his sentience, even though the powers of a l'Cie and Cie'th still stirred within him, but it wouldn't be able to restore everyone if they turned. What a god awful situation to be in. Either destroy the world or go Cie'th. It was just like Cocoon all over again. He wouldn't stand for it. People aren't meant to be used as tools, especially not for something as horrifying as this. Death would be a better option for all of them.
How could he convince the other Heroes of that - convince Serah? And if it came down to it, would he be able to pull the trigger on her, too? He would have to. Maybe five hundred years ago, he would've sung a different tune, but now, after all that had happened, he knew for sure. Snow would rather end Serah's life than force her to live out the rest of it as a Cie'th. He wouldn't let her or anyone else be someone's puppet. Not again.
Not ever again.]

Light came here for one reason - Snow. Ever since this all started somewhere she knew that she'd have to fight him, knock some sense back into that l'Cie head of his. Maybe she would even be forced to kill him. It wasn't an option she liked especially since Serah had come along. Maybe it was better that her sister was here, someone to help get Snow back. Then she thinks of how Serah might have to watch him die and she hates the situation all over again.
So when she hits the forest core with the others, Light doesn't look twice at all of those strangers. Instead her eyes fall on the bulky platinum blond man. The rest of the people she came with can handle the others, Light will take the one she knows.
A huge sword is mounted on her back - not one she's ever used before but somehow she's able to lifts easily with one hand. There's a shield attached to her left arm, something Light generally doesn't fight with but for some reason has felt right every time she's lifted a weapon lately. She sure as hell looks like the Savior of Snow's days.
Light moves in front of him, keeping her weapon up for the moment.]
Snow.

when light finally stopped, so too did yuna, though she kept quiet as she looked snow over... he didn't mean -- to fight them did he? snow had always been so kind. slowly, her gaze moved from snow, to lightning, then back to snow as her grip on her staff tightened... )
no subject
Ready to listen to reason?
The irony was so thick he could've gagged on it.]
Hey, sis. Didn't think you'd bother to come.
[He then set his sights in Yuna's direction, giving her a friendly nod. He and Yuna weren't particularly close - had only met a handful of times - but he liked her. She was smart and kind and confident, and hopefully she was open-minded enough to hear what he had to say.]
Yuna. [It was the best greeting he could muster.]
