So, looking up at her companion, she finally voiced a quick— "Hmm..." before leaping back into the air again, this time to flip, and landing on Dylas' head in perfectly between his antlers.
If he looks up at the right angle, he'll see a grin. Problem? "Right there, that way."
no subject
"Hey—"
He wobbles when Midna suddenly decides to perch on his head. It's a good thing he doesn't fall; it's a long way down, and no one wants to end up squished beneath him. He's all fur and sharp teeth and claws. He has plenty of problems with this, but all Midna gets out of him is a growl and some complaints.
"Who told you could sit up there?! You better not pull anything—"
He has long, silky hair, after all. And he's walking despite himself, if only because he was going there anyways. It's weird as hell having a child-sized imp riding his head.
no subject
"If you talked as much as you walked, we'd be there by now," it was just a short ways away, the door was almost in reach... but what they might find on the other side may be just as uninviting.

"Besides, walking is good enough for you. If I ran, you'd fall off." Always the competitive person, he tries to get the last word in. But he's not a bucking bronco. He pushes the door open, still seemingly unbothered by the cold, and takes a look around. He's lost for words for a moment. Icy floors, a hole in the ceiling.
"This place looks abandoned. You ever been here before?"
perf
When the door opens she crouches down a little further behind him to study the area, and after seeing it thoroughly abandoned, retorts with a, "Of course I haven't. This may be my world but its not my world."
A glow under one of the door frames merits a curious "Hmm?" as she sits higher with interest. "What's over there? Someone?" The door seems to creak open on its own, revealing a welcoming-looking fire, and someone huddled near it.
The moment her eye landed on that someone, Midna slipped away, hopefully unnoticed, and down into Dylas' shadow as the stranger perked up.
"Who? Uh..." a soft voice sounds. "Sorry, I have sickness, uh. Come closer, uh?"
no subject
Dylas frantically turns around, trying to spot where Midna went to no avail. It's a little hard to spot someone diving into his own shadow. Crap. Of course she'd hide as soon as someone else showed up, and when did she learn to do that.
Cautiously, he approached the door, his body tense as he steeled himself to put his claws to good use if he had to. But what greeted him was...surprising. Someone sick? Someone big? He walked closer, not sure how to address them, especially if it was their house.
"Sorry, we...er...I was stuck in the blizzard."
no subject
"You cute little creature. Husband tell me someone come. You want to look at mirror, uh?" Her head tilts to the side, along with her sweatered body, curiously. "My husband found it, but it pretty thing, uh."
Which is just about the time Midna creeps back out from... where ever. She's draped over Dylas' shoulder as though nothing was amiss. "Did you say mirror?"
no subject
"Is there something important about a mirror?" He asks Midna first, and then he looks back at the woman, trying to fill in some dots and figure this all out. He's been to Ryslig, he knows how the portals work. "This little girl here really likes mirrors. Think we could see it? We just want to look."
Probably. Midna, don't break anything.
no subject
The yeti peers curiously at Midna also, "It okay. You can see. But... since I get mirror, I get sick, and then bad monsters appear... So many bad things happen since mirror." Almost as though it was something that shouldn't be taken lightly... or tampered with.
"So we lock bedroom on third floor where it hangs, uh? Wait... I tell you where key is." She went digging into that armless sweater, and after some wriggling, out from the hood near her face popped a piece of paper.
Midna looked at it with a less-than-impressed expression. Was she... supposed to take something like that from the depths of who knew where?
no subject
"Bad monsters, huh. You...have my condolences, ma'am."
Dylas couldn't sound awkward or fidget more if he tried at hearing the word monster used by someone like her toward someone other than himself and Midna. It actually felt kind of good, that she considered the pair of them normal. He likes her.
"Midna, why don't you tell her there's nothing to worry about with you here."
He doesn't want to do it himself, being nice is hard for him.
no subject
The yeti woman's feet kicked happily, though slowly, as though the effort took a lot out of her. "Fever makes head blurry but, it probably in the room marked by this symbol... But right now, can't even get up. Would you bring it to me, uh? Start with door right here." She nodded behind her.
Back on her perch atop Dylas' silky locks, Midna peered over at the map, taking it in with a "Hmm..." before finally deciding with a slightly pull of his antlers towards the door. "Well, no sense in dawdling, is there? Let's go."
no subject
It can't be that hard to find a single room in a mansion, right? He's not that genre-savvy yet.
"Yeah. You, uh. Sit here and try to feel better." Dylas nodded politely and meekly before making his way over to the door and heading through it. He frowned at Midna pulling on his antlers, but he figured the sooner he got used to it, the sooner they'd finish here and find the portal.
He wasn't surprised to find a kitchen. At least these rooms were still warm, though the yeti in this room was as tall as he was. It felt a little awkward to go back to being the same height as someone else in the room. ...No, maybe he was a bit taller.
"We're just passing through." He didn't really want to say and chat, though he had a feeling the yeti might be as social as his wife(?).
no subject
As they made their way into the kitchen, she didn't disappear this time, realizing that if the yeti were living her peacefully, there was no way that Zant was anywhere near.
"Uh! Who you?" they were greeted with, which Midna met with a flat look, not keen on explaining herself. It didn't seem to matter anyway, because on he went. "Wife... look bad, huh? not healthy since mirror. So I make soup for her." Thanks, said the roll of her visible eye, but we didn't ask. "Fish from Zora village are most nutritious! You tired, uh? You have some. It give you energy."
If you didn't mind floating fish heads, Midna thought, turning up her nose. "Eugh."
no subject
Much to Midna's inevitable disappointment, Dylas' ears perked right up after hearing about fish. He moved closer. What was a Zora village, what were the fish like? If they were delicious, should he quit his Hero life and just remain in this world forever, pursuing a love of fishing with two mountain hermit monsters?
"Yeah, I'd love some, they smell delicious." It didn't. Matter if they were raw or not. Yeah, Midna was going to have to stop Dylas from getting stuck here, the allure of fish is always impossible to resist.
no subject
"Oh? Hmmm, okay, soup not finished yet anyway. You come back later," the yeti nodded off, starting to mumble to himself about 'what might be missing' as Midna glared downwards from atop Dylas' head.
"Well?" she challenged, as though she was expecting him to get on with it, and into the next room.
That's honestly the most IC tag I've ever written
And just like that, with two solid hands on his very soft ears, Dylas' focus was ripped away from the yeti. Their forbidden romance would never be written, and fish from Zora River would never be tasted. Truly, that was the greatest tragedy since he arrived in Crysalis, somewhere above killing four people.
"Yeah. We'll come back later," he said through gritted, almost-snarling teeth. They would be back, because he wanted to eat the fish, and he needed Midna to know just how badly he wanted this.
But with his point made(???), he stalked off to the next room. He wasn't sure what he expected, but blocks and icy floors? That's definitely not it, and he can't help but make a face at the entire set-up. He's seen puzzle rooms, this looks like a pain in the ass.
"Hold it, hold it. What kind of place is this? This doesn't seem like a mansion at all."
he's gotta get something out of this dungeon crawl...
"Of course it's some place like this," you could almost hear the groan in her voice, but with a propped up elbow to rest her chin on a small hand, she managed to look quite bored.
"Get pushing, will you? We don't have all day."
no subject
"Why can't you use that giant hand of yours for this?" The funny thing is that even when he complains, he starts pushing. Being freakishly tall and long-limbed, he just has to climb on top of one of the blocks to figure the puzzle out before he's leading them up to the door above.
"You said 'of course' earlier," he scoffed as he stepped through the door...into a narrow room. As far as he could tell, it was a dead end. "What the hell was all that for?"
no subject
"If you want something badly enough you'll work for it, isn't that right?" it was just as true for mirrors as it was for fish soup. "Anything of value in this world is always guarded by tricks and trials. Which means... the mirror might truly be here."
"Hm? What is it?" Link almost came so naturally after. Midna perked even higher, examining the room... and spying the tiniest bit of daylight through the cracks in the snow. "There," she pointed, "kick it in. The walls are weak."
no subject
He'd never heard of any mirrors with supernatural powers in his lifetime, but if it was something important to Midna he already figured it was more than just a normal mirror. Maybe something special to her, or maybe something...unique in another way. Look. He's not creative.
"Do I even want to know why you jumped straight to me kicking the wall?" Without further ado, he punched the wall instead. Was she comparing him to an animal that could kick harder than anyone could punch? Was it the hooves? Whatever. He stepped out into the field of snow. His body still refused to shiver, but looking up at the tower he could see a locked door.
And he could hear something moving.
"Hold onto me," he barked out as an order, ears moving as he tried to search out the source of the sound.
no subject
"Does it matter? We're through aren't w—" no sooner are the words out of her mouth than the sound reaches her ears, too. She doesn't even fight his suggestion to hold on tighter, as she lowers herself further into his mane. Her eye searches the area frantically, just in time for a snowy wolf to leap right at them. "Watch out!" she yells, holding tight still, but standing up tall.
Midna's hair electrifies, lighting up as her ponytail crackles to life, darkening the area around them, trapping one, two... "W-what are you waiting for?!" she chastises, obviously concentrating. "Finish them!"
no subject
In a rare turn of events, Dylas stood there stunned for a second. Only a second, but the most important thing was that he sounded impressed. He knew how these worlds worked. He was still a vampire, making no sounds, so he was getting a glimpse at Midna's real powers.
Who knew she could be so cool?
But Dylas, whose first instincts are still to bite an enemy by the throat and leave them in the ground, struggles for a second before he uses his Monk abilities to punch the wolf so hard it goes flying over the castle walls.
"Shit!"
So for the next one, he just grabs the wolfos by the tail and swings it over the castle wall. Having martial artist strength is going to be a benefit here, at least against lighter enemies like that. He can just throw dogs wherever.
no subject
With a quiet "Hmph," mixed with an exhale, she left her post atop his head and hovered over to where a chest lay buried. Her ponytail end seemed to take the shape of a hand, which shot forward to roughly toss back the lid, revealing a key.
"Don't just stand there gawking," she hovered back over towards him, floating just in front of him at eye height, the key turning in her psychic grip. "The next door is just over there." With a flip, she landed back on top of him again.
"And..." she continued, "to answer your question," because he was being rather helpful, "if the mirror that woman was talking about is indeed the Mirror of Twilight, then... it's a powerful object, left behind by my people," there was another pause before the added quietly, "we can't let anyone else get their hands on it."
no subject
And then he shut his mouth, bracing for the inevitable extra strong ear or fur yank. It wasn't that he didn't think there were more of her, he'd just never bothered to ask what she was to begin with.
He made quick work moving over to the next door, his footsteps continuing not to make a single sound. There's never any crunching of snow or clopping of hooves on hard floor. He makes quick work of the ice enemies again before unlocking the door and stepping through it.
"So, it's dangerous. Is that what it is?" But before Midna could answer, the door locked behind him, trapping him in another icy floor room with more of those small monsters. "Oh, c'mon. This place isn't a house. It can't be. What the hell?"
no subject
"It will be dangerous if we're not the ones to get to it," Midna continued, only half answering his question. She made herself comfortable, turning over and gazing at her nails with a slight smile as they entered the new room.
"I'm sure you can handle this one."
