[After twenty days of running around Glenwood looking for people who have come from the world of Crystallis, Sorey leads the group to Lastonbell. It was the place where he had made his decision to become the vessel for Maotelus so why couldn't it also be the spot where he tells his friends of his next big decision. The only difference is that it isn't night this time but he takes them to the railing anyway and leans his elbows on it, looking up to the sky.]

So I've been thinking a lot since you guys came here from Crystallis. About everything that's happening here and there.]

[Maybe they already can figure out what he's decided to do - they could last time. Sorey turns to look back at them.]

If there's a way for me to go back with you, I'm going to go.

[He's looking at the seraphim at this point seeing as how Rose is in the same situation as he is.]

You're fighting not just for the sake of our world but for other worlds and I want to help as much as I can. Even if I stop Heldalf here there's a chance that our world will still be destroyed and if I'm serving as Maotelus' vessel, I won't be able to do anything to stop it.

[Sorey is not tossing aside his duties as Shepherd away easily, he has thought about this part as well.]

If Mikleo can come back to this point from our future, I should be able to do the same to fight Heldalf. But it could be risky. No matter what, I'll come back and make this world right.

[He's believing in himself - in the others that they'll be successful in saving Crystallis and all of the other worlds at stake. It's crucial that he does if he's going to leave their world with things left unsettled. Sorey is basically putting the future that Mikleo has lived through at risk so he has to believe that they'll win and that he'll come back in time.

[ He knew this day would come, especially being placed in such a situation for almost a month long. They've been treading for answers since the first day that Mikleo and Edna had stepped into their world. Mikleo noticed back then that he could not stop Sorey if he chose to follow them to the other side. He doesn't know what will happen or what might become of Sorey, but he knows that the other will make a decision like this.

Honestly, he feels it will be much better if Sorey stays where he is and continue his journey. However, a part of him is bitterly aware that Sorey will not simply leave the fate of the different worlds to just Mikleo and Edna. It's a huge burden that the two of them will have to bear alone and he knows that it's not something that can easily be done. He's well prepared to take this on by himself with Edna and Lalah. With that being said he doesn't say much for the a long moment.

He remains quiet and attentive, while leaning back on the rail. He knows that Sorey will do what he must in order to accomplish things as the Shepherd. He never does shy away from his duty and Mikleo knows he's not running from it. It's about high time he accepts everything for what it is. Sorey isn't leaving them behind and he's going to go with them back to Crystallis. He certainly hopes this is possible. He's not once think this can happen. ]

Some part of me knew you weren't going to back off that easily. There's no point in arguing with you about the matter. Once you make up your mind, you don't waiver. I suppose we'll have to quickly save Crystallis, the other worlds, and come back and finish what we start here. However, you must understand that even Edna and I have made it here once, it cannot be guaranteed we'll make it here again a second time in this period specifically. We continue to know little to nothing about the rifts and how they function. We don't even know if they will remain closed or open up completely.

[ It wasn't for him to say but he did offer his friend a small smile in spite of the conversation. ]

[Lailah blinks a few times before visibly becoming irritated.]

No.

[Not that he'd listen to her.]

At least, that's my stance.

Over the course of our journey, you've grown a lot, Sorey. There is no denying that. But your home... our home, is here. The only thing worse than us being in another world without you would be for you to willingly follow us into a decaying land, when you have so much more of your life to live ahead of you.

[She shakes her head.]

You can make your own decisions. I'll stand by you regardless. But please, don't make this decision lightly. It would be best if you didn't come.

( all throughout sorey's speech, edna was watching him thoughtfully. alert the presses: sorey was going to try save a whole bunch of other people he didn't have to. except none of them were surprised. )

Lailah's right. ( she closes her eyes, continuing— ) But of course there's probably no convincing you that those humans aren't deserving of any more help than they're already getting.

( she thought about that dying village that the three seraphim had come across several months ago. remembered how sorey restored whole towns, seen it with her own eyes... and hated the thought of people taking advantage of that.

edna opened her eyes, and pressed on. )
You know there's a chance none of your skills will work once we find the way out of here too, right? These crystals they gave us once we got to that other world are the only reason we can still use artes effectively at all, so without that, are you really going to be of use to anyone?

( putting it delicately, of course. )

[ Rose isn't surprised by this news from Sorey. In fact, she'd been expecting this announcement for quite some time. Once the Shepherd made up his mind, there was no changing it for anybody. ]

It looks like you've already made up your mind, Sorey but I have to agree with Mikleo, Lailah and Edna. In Glenwood, we know what we've gotten ourselves into but if we go this Crystallis place, there's no knowing if we'll be able to get back here at all.

[ She looks at the Shepherd with a sharp eye. There was no knowing what sort of burden would be thrust on Sorey but Rose knows that she isn't going to let him bear it alone. She wouldn't have become his Squire if she wasn't prepared for that. ]

I just want you to know that if you insist on going to Crystallis that I'm going with you.

[personal profile] theruinsarecalling 2016-08-29 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[As each of them speak their minds, Sorey gives them every bit of attention he has. Listens to them and takes in their words - not just their words but their feelings and advice. Lailah and Edna are older than him, wiser and more experienced in life... in everything and he values their opinions highly. Then Mikleo is the one who's been with him all his life, who grew up alongside him and could practically read his mind at any given point. Rose was the voice of humans to him. The one who showed him how to interact with other humans while thinking like a human.

So he values their words even when they all tell him he shouldn't leave Glenwood. It isn't something Sorey has thought about lightly. He took in all the information the others have given him about Crystallis and has been thinking about it for almost two weeks since Mikleo first arrived from the other world.

He addresses each one of them in turn - starting with Mikleo.]

I know that. I know I might not make it back on time to stop Heldalf. Maybe I'll leave here and when I come back the world will be so different from how I left it but I will come back. The fight to stop the Lord of Calamity might be harder... maybe even impossible but I'll still be the Shepherd. I'm never going to give up on saving this world.

[They're worried about him, Sorey knows that. He pushes himself too much and blames himself even more if he fails to save someone or stop some event.

Sorey lets his gaze move to Lailah. She's the reason he was able to become the Shepherd in the first place, she's been his guide from the very beginning of this journey - encouraged him when it was needed, advised him when he was uncertain, took care of him when was strained to the point of exhaustion. Of course he looks up to her.]

That's right, it is our home. You all keep telling me that I don't have to do everything on my own but the same goes for you too. How can you possibly expect me to not follow you into Crystallis and help you after all you've done for me? I want you all to have a world to come home to and we can accomplish that easier if we're together.

[Delicate is not a word Sorey would use to describe Edna's way of caring. She was blunt and sometimes rough with her words but he wouldn't change that about her. It was sometimes what he needed in order to realize what an idiot it could be. And it came from someone who he wasn't used to getting it from - someone who was only just starting to get to know him made him really step back to look back at what he was attempting to do.]

Deserving or not, I can't turn away from people who need help. If I did, I might not have become the Shepherd in the first place. And I know I might lose my powers if I go to Crystallis but I will try to do whatever I can to make up for that fact. Even if that means I just have to sit back and help you figure it all out while you handle the fighting. I can still research even if I can't be with you in a fight.

[He wouldn't be entirely happy with that role but Sorey could do it for them. There is no way he'll make himself a liability to his friends. Though he would be working hard to get his skills and artes up to par so that he can fight alongside them.

Then there's Rose. The assassin with the pure heart who's both threatened him and saved him. She is his connection to the human world despite the fact that he's one himself. While Lailah and the other seraphs are knowledgeable about a wide variety of humans, Rose is the one who understands them best because she is one. Having her around is good for Sorey to remember the human aspect of it all. She is the only one capable of grounding him in both worlds because she walks the line with him but the human side is always on her mind - her eyes and goals are pointed towards the humans even if she can look over into the seraph part of the world as well. Above all, Rose is an essential part of the team and he wouldn't have done nearly as much good or gotten as far as he has without her.]

When I first saw Alisha needed help, I didn't know what I'd be getting myself into. I'm not scared that I don't know what's coming next... well, I am a little but it's not so bad because all of you would be there for me. [A hint of a smile is directed at Rose because it does feel good to know she'd come with him.] I know the risks I'm taking and all of the important things I'd be leaving behind. [Gramps, being one of them.] But I don't know if I could stand back and do nothing when it's not just our world at risk of being destroyed.

[His gaze flickers back over all of them, lingering a little on each person gathered in front of him.] How could I possibly choose to protect only our world when there are so many others in danger too? One world's fate versus the fate of so many others - how could I fight Heldalf with the knowledge that I could have had the opportunity to help save not just our world but all the rest too?

[And that right there, is the true heart of this decision. He isn't just looking at the problem happening here in Glenwood but at a much bigger picture.]

[ Mikleo knows that Lailah will always say what is best for Sorey and he's grateful for that. No matter how much she disagrees with Sorey, she works hard to guide him. He know that she means no harm by the words she says to him and she's allowed that much. Lailah was a mother like figure to all of them, he assumed, with her wise reasoning and gentle kindness.

Mikleo was saved by her kindness many times and he can't help but smile a little to himself thinking about how much she had done for the both of them. She honestly sounded like a mother scolding her children. She had the right points. The same with Edna, she knew what it would entail when Sorey leaves Glenwood. She was also aware like Mikleo that there was no telling what will happen, especially with all their abilities being compromised. There's no getting around it but adjusting to the different powers and abilities.

It might make Sorey much more of a burden than he was meant to be but some part of him probably understood that Sorey must felt the way he did when Sorey had become the Shepherd. Mikleo had to figure out what he wanted and how he wanted to approach his goals. He also had to mull over his own worth. Knowing his best friend, he assumed Sorey was feeling the same. There was no way he didn't feel upset with not being able to do anything for them. He knew that and he couldn't stop Sorey for that reason.

Rose had always been the type to go after what she wanted and it's not surprising that she would choose to go with Sorey and them because they were all going. He can't argue with her knowing that she knows the risk and what come with it. Honestly, they were all great, great people. ]

It's an entirely different world, Sorey. We are wearing the burden of many worlds not just our own. Leaving means leaving everything we're fighting for-- including the time we spent together here in Glenwood. I am certain you are aware but it is very different from how you see it now. There are things we cannot do, even with our other abilities, but at the end of the day it is your choice. We can tell you not to do something and you'll do it with all your heart and soul. That I understand.

[ He shakes his head. There's really not much to argue about. He's going to keep pushing his thoughts on the other like the rest of them are. It's honestly better if Sorey stayed here but a small part of him really hoped that he could take Sorey with him and show him the world that is Crystallis and walk alongside with him. It's a selfish thought but Mikleo didn't fully understand how lonely and saddening it is to miss someone that you grew up with until they weren't by his side. He wanted to be selfish but he knew that it's not something he could tolerate right now. They had so much to do and little time to do it.

He had to set his emotions aside for the time being and let history ride its course with or without Sorey. He can manage. At least, he wants to tell himself that. After all, Edna and Lailah had been a huge emotional support for him generally. ]

You're right, there is no way we can simply ignore the happiness of millions of people for our own world's happiness. You of all people won't ignore them. That is why no matter what we say, you'll find a way to conquer it. It's not surprising that after all this time, you're as optimistic as ever. Only if you are completely certain you won't doubt the choices you made today, that I can let you come with us.

[ Sorey was capable of many things and even Mikleo himself could help the other gain knowledge and power that were beyond their wildest dream. Crystallis is a growing world rich with history. They could find out how to save the world by research and knowledge, along with exploring and gaining new job classes. After all that world provided endless possibilities. ]

[Everything went according to how Lailah thought it would. It wasn't a surprise. But even though she would support her friends to the best of her ability, the fact is, there was a real risk here. Zaveid was proof of that. He was there, and he turned to crystal. He didn't return back here to Glenwood. He was there in the hospital, and when she was sure the others weren't watching her, she visited him to tell him what was going on. She missed him. It would completely tear her heart apart if everyone else ended up that way. She held her hands together as these thoughts clouded her mind - was there no actual way to convince everyone that this was a terrible idea, that they could stand to lose everything? She cast her gaze to the floor. The land of Glennwood. Biting her lower lip, she nods her head before looking at all of her companions.]

You're much too good for the infinite worlds out there, Sorey.

[Raising her head, she forces a smile.]

Looks like we'll all follow you, come Hell or high water.

That's how much we all love you.
