"Oh? Hmmm, okay, soup not finished yet anyway. You come back later," the yeti nodded off, starting to mumble to himself about 'what might be missing' as Midna glared downwards from atop Dylas' head.
"Well?" she challenged, as though she was expecting him to get on with it, and into the next room.
That's honestly the most IC tag I've ever written
And just like that, with two solid hands on his very soft ears, Dylas' focus was ripped away from the yeti. Their forbidden romance would never be written, and fish from Zora River would never be tasted. Truly, that was the greatest tragedy since he arrived in Crysalis, somewhere above killing four people.
"Yeah. We'll come back later," he said through gritted, almost-snarling teeth. They would be back, because he wanted to eat the fish, and he needed Midna to know just how badly he wanted this.
But with his point made(???), he stalked off to the next room. He wasn't sure what he expected, but blocks and icy floors? That's definitely not it, and he can't help but make a face at the entire set-up. He's seen puzzle rooms, this looks like a pain in the ass.
"Hold it, hold it. What kind of place is this? This doesn't seem like a mansion at all."
he's gotta get something out of this dungeon crawl...
"Of course it's some place like this," you could almost hear the groan in her voice, but with a propped up elbow to rest her chin on a small hand, she managed to look quite bored.
"Get pushing, will you? We don't have all day."
no subject
"Why can't you use that giant hand of yours for this?" The funny thing is that even when he complains, he starts pushing. Being freakishly tall and long-limbed, he just has to climb on top of one of the blocks to figure the puzzle out before he's leading them up to the door above.
"You said 'of course' earlier," he scoffed as he stepped through the door...into a narrow room. As far as he could tell, it was a dead end. "What the hell was all that for?"
no subject
"If you want something badly enough you'll work for it, isn't that right?" it was just as true for mirrors as it was for fish soup. "Anything of value in this world is always guarded by tricks and trials. Which means... the mirror might truly be here."
"Hm? What is it?" Link almost came so naturally after. Midna perked even higher, examining the room... and spying the tiniest bit of daylight through the cracks in the snow. "There," she pointed, "kick it in. The walls are weak."
no subject
He'd never heard of any mirrors with supernatural powers in his lifetime, but if it was something important to Midna he already figured it was more than just a normal mirror. Maybe something special to her, or maybe something...unique in another way. Look. He's not creative.
"Do I even want to know why you jumped straight to me kicking the wall?" Without further ado, he punched the wall instead. Was she comparing him to an animal that could kick harder than anyone could punch? Was it the hooves? Whatever. He stepped out into the field of snow. His body still refused to shiver, but looking up at the tower he could see a locked door.
And he could hear something moving.
"Hold onto me," he barked out as an order, ears moving as he tried to search out the source of the sound.
no subject
"Does it matter? We're through aren't w—" no sooner are the words out of her mouth than the sound reaches her ears, too. She doesn't even fight his suggestion to hold on tighter, as she lowers herself further into his mane. Her eye searches the area frantically, just in time for a snowy wolf to leap right at them. "Watch out!" she yells, holding tight still, but standing up tall.
Midna's hair electrifies, lighting up as her ponytail crackles to life, darkening the area around them, trapping one, two... "W-what are you waiting for?!" she chastises, obviously concentrating. "Finish them!"
no subject
In a rare turn of events, Dylas stood there stunned for a second. Only a second, but the most important thing was that he sounded impressed. He knew how these worlds worked. He was still a vampire, making no sounds, so he was getting a glimpse at Midna's real powers.
Who knew she could be so cool?
But Dylas, whose first instincts are still to bite an enemy by the throat and leave them in the ground, struggles for a second before he uses his Monk abilities to punch the wolf so hard it goes flying over the castle walls.
"Shit!"
So for the next one, he just grabs the wolfos by the tail and swings it over the castle wall. Having martial artist strength is going to be a benefit here, at least against lighter enemies like that. He can just throw dogs wherever.
no subject
With a quiet "Hmph," mixed with an exhale, she left her post atop his head and hovered over to where a chest lay buried. Her ponytail end seemed to take the shape of a hand, which shot forward to roughly toss back the lid, revealing a key.
"Don't just stand there gawking," she hovered back over towards him, floating just in front of him at eye height, the key turning in her psychic grip. "The next door is just over there." With a flip, she landed back on top of him again.
"And..." she continued, "to answer your question," because he was being rather helpful, "if the mirror that woman was talking about is indeed the Mirror of Twilight, then... it's a powerful object, left behind by my people," there was another pause before the added quietly, "we can't let anyone else get their hands on it."
no subject
And then he shut his mouth, bracing for the inevitable extra strong ear or fur yank. It wasn't that he didn't think there were more of her, he'd just never bothered to ask what she was to begin with.
He made quick work moving over to the next door, his footsteps continuing not to make a single sound. There's never any crunching of snow or clopping of hooves on hard floor. He makes quick work of the ice enemies again before unlocking the door and stepping through it.
"So, it's dangerous. Is that what it is?" But before Midna could answer, the door locked behind him, trapping him in another icy floor room with more of those small monsters. "Oh, c'mon. This place isn't a house. It can't be. What the hell?"
no subject
"It will be dangerous if we're not the ones to get to it," Midna continued, only half answering his question. She made herself comfortable, turning over and gazing at her nails with a slight smile as they entered the new room.
"I'm sure you can handle this one."
no subject
If Midna listens closely enough, she'll notice that Dylas does growl sometimes before kicking or punching an enemy. They're no match for a Vampire, though, especially with his Monk abilities backing him up.
When he finished with that batch of ice soldiers, he moved into the next room, the one that had been marked out for them. Sure enough, there was a chest there, and Dylas kicked it open before...well, he didn't reach down to pull something out, that would have been stupid.
It was clearly a pumpkin.
"Your mirror looks a lot like a vegetable."
no subject
Horror lines the contours of Midna's expression as she stares, burning a hole in the pumpkin as her eye twitched, once, twice... "That—" her teeth clenched, "that idiot! I can't believe those stupid yeti led us on a chase for a pumpkin! Hmph!"
Frustrated was putting it lightly, especially after the tease of the idea the mirror might actually be here, the imp reeled backwards, her ponytail coming to life again and extending to store the delicacy... somewhere, as the hand-shape clasped over it.
"I can't wait to give them a piece of my mind! We're going back there right now!"
no subject
Although, now that he thought about it...if they went back, maybe he could have some of that fish they were talking about earlier. Midna would practically be able to see Dylas' thought process. One moment, he's almost snarling (darn beast body of his), and then with a swish of his tail, he's looking calm and then awkwardly excited about something and trying not to show it.
"Well, you're the one who's familiar with this place, so...yeah. Let's hurry back after all."
no subject
Grasping at his antlers, she pulls herself down slightly into his view, knowing exactly where his thoughts were probably wandering to after such a quick turn around, and the beastly body language that followed.
"And don't go thinking it's time to sit down for a disgusting bowl of fish head stew at a time like this, either. We need to get to that mirror!"
I'M STILL HERE
His voice even broke a little, as if dismissing fish stew was something he could not do with a clear conscience. It's not his fault that fish are delicious and perfect and much preferred to human flesh regardless of whether or not he's got arm-tearing teeth.
"This is stupid. Can't we just take...a shortcut or something? I bet I can punch one of these walls down."
SAME... pls excuse a little bit of fast forwarding here...
After the pumpkin, and some heavy lifting to get towards the next room haphazardly marked on their map; Midna looked down at the lifeless body of Darkhammer. She looked no worse for wear from the battle, having probably participated minimally, sounding a curious. "Hmm..."
Re: SAME... pls excuse a little bit of fast forwarding here...
Dylas shrugged and lifted a hand to his shoulder, massaging where he'd taken his only blow during the short battle. The ball had barely grazed him, but it was still going to be enough to leave a bruise.
Curiously, his tail was lifted slightly, like a horse's would be when praised or feeling accomplished. He'd enjoyed the fighting, even if there was now blood on his claws. It wasn't like he carried a sword.
"What's up? Did you notice something while you were busy not helping?"
no subject
"We'll take this with us," Midna announced happily, nodding towards the weapon, then jumping backwards in the air, back onto her place between his antlers. "I'm sure it will come in handy somehow."
And it was probably heavy. So here she is, settling back into a comfortable spot in his mane of hair, and leaning her head on an upturned palm, waiting for him to take it. "Well? The longer we take the more that stew is probably getting cold. Or eaten. Eee hee..."
no subject
Dylas stepped forward and kicked the steel ball with one of his hooves. It hurt like hell, but the ball still rolled a few yards away while Dylas tried (and failed) to look like that didn't just hurt. He glances up at Midna, but it's not like he can really see her well from doing that.
"You're lucky I want some damn stew," he muttered as he went to pick it up. There was nowhere convenient to store it on his body, so he had to resort to holding it in his right hand. At least being a Monk meant he could carry it without ease, but he still didn't have to like it.
no subject
"Through there," Midna's pointing again, patting his head in a way that just says 'giddyup.'
The next room reveals a large thick wall of ice, one that will have Midna sitting back up in interest again. "There, now what did I tell you?"
no subject
Is he hinting that Midna has a nasty personality? Maybe. But he's still the one sighing and picking up his pace when Midna pats his hair. He even hurries a little into the next room, his stag hooves clipping against the floor much more impressively than Epona's ever could.
"I bet I could punch this down, but you seem against that," he muttered. "I've never tried one of these before, so hold on!" He decides it'd be best to get a spinning start, holding onto the chain as he swings it before releasing it. It shatters the ice.
And it keeps going, shattering the wall behind it. That definitely wasn't on the map, but at least it stops there. It'd be a pain in the ass to hike to the bottom of the mountain to pick it back up.

As she peers over the top of his head again, her eye lands on the one important thing— a chest! "Oh~?" she chimes, pulling herself up and forward to drift down to he ground again in front of it.
There's a moment of hesitation, where she talks herself out of what if it's something stupid again? and coaxes her hands to push it the top open, peering inside to find...
no subject
But he had a more important question, so he lifted his finger and pointed it down at her.
"Did you just try to cuddle me?"
no subject
And so, changing the subject, she upturned her nose and crossed her arms. "I knew I should have trusted the bad feeling I had about this. No way that yeti seemed anything sure of herself... hmph. Let's head back and hope she had some other brilliant idea..."
And don't you dare insinuate she was trying to nuzzle up close again...
