Meeting the Family
Seconds later, a scream could be heard. “KUPO---!” Anyone who came to the poor moogle’s aid could see it in the arms of a five year old girl with a boy the same age as her. They both had black hair with a faint hint of green to it. Their eyes however resembled a certain someone everyone knew.
“Gotcha! Toshi, it’s so fluffy! I bet Mommy would let us keep it!” The girl rubbed her cheek against Brigid’s face. It was then the boy noticed they weren’t alone. He stood in between his twin sister and anyone who approached them. As much as he tried to put up a strong front, there was something rather adorable about it.
“Who are you? Are you one of Mommy’s friends?”
[OOC: Saori's children, husband and her close friend are later available if you like!]
Re: Meeting the Family
But now she wasn't quite as sure. Saori had already told her about her family, but to see them in person made her feel...she wasn't quite sure. Her hesitation is what makes her linger long enough for the children to notice her as well.
"Uh...yes...my name is Mary. I'm...a good friend of your mother's."
Re: Meeting the Family
Toshi followed after his sister. "Yeah like did ya have a huge ship and treasure too?"
Given that the two were only five years old, there was no way they knew how their parents' open relationship worked. Saori kept the introductions of the Heroes simple for them. She figured they would eventually bombard everyone with tons of questions. After all, it's not that often they guests from different worlds.
Re: Meeting the Family
"Aye, at times. Mostly sailed with a fair few other folk and did some fightin'. I'm not really the Captain sort." She thought for a moment. Would these kids know names from her era? She wouldn't be surprised if they stood the test of time. "But I've sailed and fought alongside Blackbeard, Charles Vane and Edward Kenway."
Re: Meeting the Family
Yae spoke up again. "Mommy told me girls weren't allowed to do lots of things back then but that's just dumb! Girls can do anything they want too!"
Re: Meeting the Family
"Being a pirate was interesting. There were some who did it because they were bad people. Because they wanted to live outside the law or hurt people. But most of us did it because we wanted to be free." She turned and looked at Yae, smiling wide, "There were lots of things women weren't expected to do where I come from. Or told we couldn't do. But never let anyone tell you that. Or if you can, use their own ignorance against them."
Re: Meeting the Family
"It means they let what they don't know control them," a male voice coming from behind Mary replied. The man had a fairly muscular build and the same dark green hair as the children. Despite the house being Japanese design, he wore jeans and a light shirt.
"Daddy!" Toshi rushed to hug one his father's legs. He laughed and bent down to ruffle the boy's hair. "Hey there. You two aren't bugging our guests too much, are you?"
They both shook their heads. "Mary was just telling us about pirates!"
Re: Meeting the Family
She knew this was coming the moment they stepped into this world.
She straightened up, trying to look confident but she was a bit stiff in her motions. She watched the kids run back to their father, clinging to him happily. She couldn't help but feel a pang of loss in that moment.
"No it's...quite alright. You two have some bright and eager younglings..." Damnit, and he was damn good looking too. Why did this have to be so complicated?
Re: Meeting the Family
"Alright kids, I think Auntie Ami said she'll take you two out for ice cream. Why don't you go find her? You can ask Mary more about pirates later, okay?"
The kids looked at each other and then ran off. Brigid was still in Yae's arms and she knew there was no hope for rescue any time soon. Once they were away, he let out a sigh.
"Right now, introductions. The name's Kenichi and it's nice to finally meet you, Mary. If you're expecting me to accuse you of being some kind of home-wrecker, don't. Relax and have a seat. Can I get you anything to drink? Water, tea, or something stronger?"
He gestured to the low table in the center of the room with two cushions to sit on opposite of each other. "I imagine this is rather awkward, a bit overwhelming, and you might have several questions."
Re: Meeting the Family
"Bonnie? Why don't you go keep an eye on the kids and make sure they don't get too rough with Brigid." There is a pause, and then a sad kupo before Bonnie flutters out from behind a potted plant and out the door after the younglings.
Now sure they were alone, Mary took the offered seat. "A bit, yes. Not the first time I've met a lovely lady's husband but there's little about this that is the usual for me. Saori told me you two had an 'arrangement', and I'm sure you have some questions for me too." She shifted, clasping her fingers as she leaned her chin against them. "I suppose it's proper for me to introduce myself. I'm Mary Read, a pirate back on my Earth, and a member of the Assassin Brotherhood. I also went by the name James Kidd when it suited me. I met Saori after we were both brought to Crystallis and...after a time we began to enjoy each other's company. A bit under a year now I think."
Re: Meeting the Family
"Ah, yes, Saori's told me quite a bit about you and the Assassins. It's still hard to believe this is all going down now and how much this is affecting our worlds." By some luck, the Saori in this timeline was off on a big assignment and wouldn't be coming home any time soon.
"My arrangement with Saori may seem odd, or heretical for some, but we have our reasons. Longer life spans mean finding new ways to spice things up, some times we're away for long periods of time, and Saori's just the type who wants to give her love to those she treasures the most. It's not like we just pick up others by whim. There's a certain level of trust that needs to be achieved before we let someone in. So if she trusts you, then I can as well." Of course he knew he could trust on his wife's taste in partners but he stopped himself short of suggesting some things. After all, Mary wasn't their only guests here.
He paused to pour his own cup and he looked up at Mary when he was done.
"I do want to say thank you for taking care of her. I don't know why I wasn't sent to Crystallis as well, but she's the best anyone could ask for but you also know she tends to push herself too hard and recklessly sometimes. As her husband, I can only ask you continue to be there for her when you two have to go back."
Re: Meeting the Family
"Aye. I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking it as much a fantasy. Then again your world seems a bit more in line with what we've been encountering than my own. I think among our number I've been one of the ones who's been most surprised by what Crystallis holds."
She listened quietly to Kenichi's explanation of their situation. The prospect of a lifespan well beyond a normal mortal's wasn't something she could grasp, nor was she sure she wanted to. She wasn't sure what she'd do with a life so long and leaving those with normal lives behind. Briefly she thought to her friends back home and her passing there, and then to the thought of doing the same to Saori. She mostly hid her own distaste at that thought.
"I'm honored to have your trust I suppose, though I must say I'm not sure what to think about being called 'spice'. But I know that she wouldn't keep me merely as a whim or plaything. And she's been able to help me through some hard adjustment of my own." She smiled and took first a tentative sip from the tea and then a longer one.
"I no longer wish to dwell on it, but I came to Crystallis at the end of my life in my home world, and after losing a child of my own. It was a hard time for me, and she has taken care of me as much as I've watched out for her." She looked up at the man and smirked, "I won't promise you that I'll continue because that was something that was never in question."
Re: Meeting the Family
He took a sip of his tea and returned the smirk back.
"You're very lucky to have each other in that case. If there's time though, I'd like to see how you pulled off James Kidd if you don't mind. Knowing Saori, she probably figured you out quickly but she would've been attracted to you regardless which gender you portray yourself as."
Re: Meeting the Family
"Was fairly simple to be honest." She fetched her bandanna from her belt and wrapped it up, tucking her hair in with well practiced efficiency. "Just played myself as a younger man, a bastard child. Nobody had any way of worth to check it, and as long as I did my part they didn't care to. And it was a fair bit easier for me to disguise myself in other ways than it was for Anne." She'd been blessed enough to only need a shirt and jacket, not the heavy leather coat and binding like Anne used during her own crossdressing jaunts. "But all this was because of how poorly the crews I sailed with would take finding a woman on board. And then it became a useful disguise for other endeavors."
Re: Meeting the Family
Mary was right to keep note of Ami. After all, Saori thought of her as the cool older sister she never had but with a mischievous streak. Also Mary had this mysterious woman to thank for some of Saori's more intimate techniques.
"Which is a damn shame, if you ask me." After all, he watched his own wife start from a woman whose life had been a traumatic conga line filled with loss to a true goddess in his eyes. In all of his life, he had never met someone as resilient as Saori Nakagawa.
"Yep...I can see how you got her attention, alright." He cracked another grin as he watched Mary. "It maybe simple but it's rather effective to an untrained eye. If you don't mind me saying, you'd look great in a modern suit. Do you still use your disguise even in Crystallis?"

He takes off his shoes at the entrance and removes his thick robes out of politeness. The ends of his pants were stained with dry mud, but his buttoned shirt was still clean. It wasn't the best state in which to visit a god, but it was better than nothing.
Before he could step any further inside, he was stopped by a small child. Mordecai game him a side glance. Now, he wouldn't describe himself as good with children, but he understood there was a level of patience one needed when talking to five-year-olds.
"...Yeah, work friends." Did Saori ever mention having kids? He had assumed that she and Mary were single before hooking up, but it was pretty darn cute if Saori were a single mother. "I'm visitin' your mom only for a short time, don't worry."
What else do you say to kids?
"Name's Mr. Jiminy. What's your name?"

"Mordecai...help, kupo..." Brigid was still in Yae's embrace.
It's clear the girl wasn't going to give up the Moogle any time soon. She walked up closer to the Barkeep, and she definitely has her mother's eyes. "Where did you come from, Mr. Jiminy?"
no subject
"I'm from Mars. It's pretty far from here."
He didn't know if such a planet existed on a plane populated by gods, but if it didn't, he wouldn't have to explain how such a colony could exist in space.

"Wow, we've only been able to see it in the sky. I didn't know people lived up there!"
no subject
"Haven't been to Earth in years, much less...wherever this is." Earth? The sky? He shrugged.

Brigid finally wiggled out from Yae's grasp and flew to Barkeep and hid behind him. "I thought I was a goner, kupo...The kid sure has a grip."
"H-hey, come back here! I wanna hug you so more!" The little girl was on her tiptoes as she tried to reach for the moogle.

Re: Meeting the Family
"Yeah. You could say that." For a moment, Ira tried to recall if Saori ever mentioned having kids. Though it would make sense, considering how she knew how to handle him and Ven. "I'm Ira."
"Kupo!" Lin exclaimed, flitting closer to the three as her Hero "Do you mind loosening your grip, kupo? I think you're squeezing my friend too tightly." Light bless these children, but she could see the other turning a bit blue.
Meeting the Family
"I'm Toshi," the boy introduced himself and then pointed to the girl. "And that's my twin sister, Yae. Nice to meet ya. You're one of the guests that came with Mommy, right?"
"S-sorry!" Yae didn't mean to hurt the moogle after all. She lets go and Brigid flopped down to the floor on her back. The girl's attention turned to Ira now. "Ooh you have really pretty hair!"
"I thought I wasn't gonna make it, kupo..." Brigid groaned after catching her breath.
Re: Meeting the Family
By which he meant that she had several depending on who you asked, but the children didn't need to know that.
"A-are you okay, kupo?" Lin asked of her friend, before pulling out a small kupo nut from her pouch. "Here, this should help!"
