When: August 03rd - August 30th

Summary: Following the battle against Palitutu, all the Heroes of Light were transported into the Interdimensional Rift. They were told by Palitutu they would have to find her to prove they can break the cycle-- But before they could reach their destination, a malevolent entity from the Rift stripped them from their immortality...

And now, they woke up in a decaying and dying world, most specifically in a place called Order's Sanctuary. From there they are ready to jump... Into their homeworlds! Feel free to use this post for the Mingle at Order's Sanctuary and should your homeworld be the stage for the Heroes of Lights' next adventures, feel free to make a thread for it and as many sub-thread as necessary! Please refer to the OOC Post for questions and plotting.

Cloud looked around curiously at the space around them. The place seemed quiet and peaceful enough, but that chill did cut into his bones and gave him a sense of unease.

"Reno...do you recognize this place?"

The voice had come out of nowhere, breaking through her dreams. Thanatos requesting she come to his Temple because something odd had occurred and his High Priestess wasn't suitable for this situation.

But Sheena was.

And that was all he told her before leaving her mind, remaining quiet as she tried to get him back to explain. Typical. As much as she understood and liked Thanatos... Did he really have to act like a God right now--all mysterious and shit?

Awakened and dressed in her normal attire, the ninja made her way to the Temple, her guard more than up as her long ponytail swayed across her back in a gentle breeze.

She might look familiar to some, but these little discrepancies would be a clue that she wasn't the one they knew. Well...all except one, whose red hair immediately caught her attention as soon as she stepped inside.

"Reno?!"

Reno was about to answer Cloud's question when a familiar voice broke into his thoughts.

"Sheena?" His face lit up immediately, a smile burst from ear to ear. "Sheena!"

He rushed to her, scooped her up tightly, and spun her around. He then informed her, very seriously, "I know you're mad -- but if you yell at me, I won't let you go."

Johnny had lagged behind the group a little, distracted less by the scenery and more by the mysterious object now around his neck. After struggling uselessly against it for a few moments, he caught up with the others.

"Okay, what the fuck is this thing ar--"

Is that Sheena with Reno there? She hadn't stepped through with the rest of the group. What was going on?

"Uh, okay, what the fuck is going on."

Cloud turned to look back at Johnny as he heard the voice behind him, and in that motion felt the weight of the collar around his neck. He tugged at it as well for a second before responding.

"I'm....not really sure. We just got here, and she walked in, but that's...." That's not the Sheena he knows, right? She didn't come along with them on this trip, and how would she come through the door in front of them if she had.

"Reno? Is this..." He gave a little nod and a widening of his eyes, trying to quietly ask about Sheena. He then gave his collar another tug. "And what's with this?"

Yes! He remembered her! And as he spun her, she kissed him soundly on the lips, laughing--before he reminded her that she was angry with him. Pulling away from him, she looked at him through narrowed eyes.

"You're damn right I'm mad, pulling a stunt like you did! And I should yell at you." No, she hadn't been doing that yet, folks. "But I have a feeling we have other things to discuss? Otherwise, I doubt Thanatos would have called me here."

Turning at the sound of Johnny's voice, she shook her head. "I have no idea," she told him, looking over the rest of the crowd. Was that Cloud? He looked...different than the last time she had seen him, which could only mean one thing: He wasn't the one she knew.

She continued looking over the group, one thought running at full speed through her mind when she noticed the two collars.

"Tugging on the collars won't help," she told them with a shake of her head. "They won't budge and will tighten over time. Although..." Something told her things might be different with this group.

"That might not be the case here."

"Uh, they're not gonna explode on us if we don't fight each other to the death within some insane time limit or anything like that, right?" They already had enough troubles to deal with but this was too much.

At the mention of Thanatos, Saori had a puzzled look on her face. "Thanatos? What's he doing here and also what is this place exactly?"

Well, that was about as forgiving for Sheena as Reno could expect. He had gone and gotten himself killed again, after all. True to his word, he put the petite ninja back on the ground.

"No!" he replied to Saori hurriedly at the word explode. "No, thankfully, they don't do that... But still, don't tug 'em. That can tighten 'em. A lot."

Like the others, Reno was also sporting a collar, and his clothes had changed to his old black Turk suit. He supposed it made some sense, losing his Crystallis job class upon returning here. But he hadn't expected the collars on the others. He wasn't sure what Atia's game was, whether or not these collars would tighten the same way -- but if they were there, there was a good chance they would tighten somehow. And pulling on them was a surefire shot.

Reno rubbed gently at his neck, already feeling irritated that he was restrained. "Guys, this is the world I was in before Crystallis -- Atia. An' this is the Sheena that's here." Still. Reno hadn't told many people very much about Atia, but he'd told Johnny a little. It was a bit embarrassing, having his group now live it.

"Sheena, when I left here, I ended up in another different world. These are my friends from there -- Johnny, Mary, Saori, Thancred, Minfilia, K'Pandolu. An' yeah, this is a baby Cloud." He saw her look. With a fond grin, he ruffled a gentle hand through Cloud's unruly blond spikes. "... And we're gonna need your help."

K'pandolu grumbled, deep in the back of her throat, fingers curling to remind herself to keep. She'd worn other neckpieces, of course, for protection or decoration, but having something forced on her set her ill at ease. "Why do they tighten to begin with?" Though- if the collars were forced on people, did she want to know?

She nodded to Sheena, though, bringing one hand up in greeting. "A pleasure," she said, looking the other woman over. She'd met the Sheena who'd arrived in Crystallis once, and she wondered what might be different.

At the mention of what this world was, Johnny's eyes go wide with worry, and he immediately stops tugging on his collar. He might not know many details about this place, but what he knew was bad enough.

"It's-- What? This is that place? But isn't this place--"

He doesn't have to say it, but "tremendously fucked up" is implied there.

She looked at Saori--only a little surprised. Coincidences weren't new to her. "Thanatos is the God of Death here. Do you know of him?"

One brow raised at the way Reno handled the introductions, a huge clue in that single word "the". But she waited until he finished before speaking up.

"You went from here to there, and you remembered? And I was there, too?" She looked at him, brows knitted. "Did I remember you, too?" She knew time worked in strange ways here, so it wouldn't surprise her if at some point in the future she left, while he came back to a time before it.

Turning to Cloud, she gave him a gentle smile. Reno kind of left something out with him. "I'm sorry if it seems like I know you, but you see..." She hesitated. "There was an older version of you here a while ago. We were friends." After nodding to the rest of the group in greeting, she looked at Johnny and nodded. She had no idea what he was actually thinking, but from his tone, she could guess it wasn't good.

Finally turning back to Reno, she nodded. "I kinda figured that. It's not every day I have a God's voice booming inside my head and waking me up. So, what do you need?"

Mary shot a glance at Saori at the prospect of the exploding collar. It was something she was sad to admit wouldn't surprise her, but it was very much far from a pleasant thought as well. She thought about using her own hidden blade to try to cut the strap of leather around her own neck, but just as Reno gave her warning, she thought she felt it tighten a touch at the thought of using force. Or perhaps it was her imagination. Best not to chance it. Very displeased with the whole prospect, she still backed off.

Putting aside the mention of "gods", she opted instead to press a point. "What is the point of these things anyway? Are humans kept as slaves to these 'gods' here then? And I know the name Thanatos. A god in my own world's past mythology. Might have somethin' in common there."

Cloud let out a little noise of surprise at the sudden ruffling and all other thoughts were pushed aside for a moment as he shoved Reno's arm away, but not before a few more spikes were added to his look. He looked at Sheena and frowned a bit at her own words.

"It's...fine I guess. A few people recognize me from the worlds they've been to before. I've gotten used to it. Actually, we know a version of you too I think. She's not here with us right now though." Another place where he's in his older self's shadow. At least they wouldn't be here for long he hoped. His eyes followed Sheena's back to Reno, waiting for an explanation and a direction.

"Well, I know a version of him, technically speaking. Though I shouldn't be surprised if there's another one in a different universe." Then again, she would've noticed if she was back home. Oh well, there was always the next portal.

"Mary took the words out of my mouth but...what is the deal with the collars then?"

Great. Just what he wanted to wake up to. This damn place again. He didn't even know why he was here, just that he was and he recognized the temple all around him. Which definitely didn't put him in a good mood at all.

The sound of voices, however, dragged him over. Better than wandering around this place alone and getting jumped by who knew what. Wait... he recognized some of those voices.

Coming around behind one of the stone pillars, a scowling young man headed for the group, titling his head a little when he saw a flash of purple he knew all too well go latching onto a patch of red hair he knew even better.

"Seriously?" Kyo shoved his hands into the pockets of the coat. (Of course he was excited to see Reno and Sheena (and was that Cloud?), but there were people around, people he didn't know, and yeah, not happening in front of them.) "We're back here again?"

Obvious question was obvious. Kyo rolled his eyes at the mention of the collars, his own once more snug around his neck, complete with a dangling chain. "Yeah," he added to the group as he came to stand on the outskirts of them, red eyes glancing from Reno to Sheena to the rest. Kind of guarded, with a temper of course. "Don't pull on them; the damn things'll tighten even faster."

To Reno and Sheena, he gave a slight "Yo" in greeting. Which was putting on a front, but they'd probably know that.

"Uh, collars? You don't wanna know."

K'pandolu tilted her head towards the newcomer. Someone else who knew this place, from the sound of it. "Perhaps we ought to move on to what we're here to find, then," she suggested.

Meanwhile there was someone behind K'pandolu who stayed quiet and wearing that damn crystal armor. But as she felt around her neck for the mentioned collar that everyone else had, Minfilia...didn't have one.

Huh. Strange.

Meanwhile, she can't help but speak quietly. "What may we be looking for here...?"

Please don't mind the Crystal Knight. Nothing to see here!

Reno froze, hearing that voice. And it felt like his blood turned to ice when he turned and saw it was, indeed, Kyo. His friend, his roommate, his lover... It had been a year since Reno had seen him, and he hadn't been sure he'd ever see him again. He had no idea how long it had been for anyone else.

"... Kyo..." he managed when he could speak again, staring at the younger man and keenly aware that Johnny was there, too. For the moment, at least, everyone else's questions went in one ear and out the other.

Johnny immediately stopped tugging on his own collar when Kyo mentions them tightening, and is about to follow it up with a question when he hears Reno say Kyo's name. Johnny's mouth shuts instantly.

Well. This was weird.

Feeling awkward, and trying not to eye up Kyo too much, he decides to answer Minfilia instead.

"Whatever it is, it better be quick. I don't like whatever the deal is with these collars. How come you got away without one?"

"I...I know not the reason why." Minfilia replied sheepishly. It was probably due to luck that somehow she managed to not get one but just because that was a matter did not mean she was far from safe. And it seemed a few were feeling awkward in this world but not for the same reasons.

But wait until she gets to hear about Atia being a bitchy sex goddess, that'll go well.

Oh boy. Sheena had a lot of questions to answer, didn't she? But first, she turned to Cloud with a smile. "So I'm there, too, huh? Makes me wonder if it was before or after this place, though." Her smile grows wider. "Then some of you know me. For those who don't, my name's Sheena Fujibayashi. It's nice to meet all of you."

No shadow with her, Cloud. You're not the one she met here; you're your own person, and she'll treat you that way without comparisons.

Now, on to the questions.

"Okay. Thanatos is the God of Death here. He guides those who have died into the afterworld. Unless you're one of the collared. Then he demands you give up something important--like an object or a memory--and he'll resurrect you. In this temple, as a matter of fact."

Taking a deep breath, she continued.

"That's where the collars come in, they tighten over a two week period--unless you do what's required by the so-called 'Goddess' to keep them loose. Otherwise, you meet Thanatos. He's not a bad God, really. A little quiet, but not bad."

She was about to continue when Kyo appeared, and her budding grin was cut short by the sudden tension in the air emanating from Reno. She didn't say anything, but looked at the red-head, one eyebrow raised in question above her concerned gaze.

"Maybe we should go to my place and talk? That might be better."

Cloud nodded, unable to help but return Sheena's smile. "I'm Cloud. Cloud Strife. I'm from the same world Reno's from but from an earlier time point." He wasn't sure why he felt compelled to mention that, but there it goes.

"So what does this Goddess require before the collar starts tightening?" He had a feeling he wouldn't like the answer. He already had enough of people with god complexes pushing him around on Crystallis.

Mary listened quietly for the moment, but at the mention of Thanatos' relation to the collars and giving something up her gaze slipped to the middle distance. Caught in her own thoughts for a moment she touched the collar again, not to pull it off, but to make sure it wasn't tightening any further.

When Cloud spoke up she looked to Reno, a bit more concerned than the blonde was. She wanted to make sure she was going to be able to leave this world without paying a heavy price.

K'pandolu glanced around at the group, and then nodded to Sheena. "That sounds like a good plan," she said. "At the least we can be a little more comfortable, yes?" She didn't much fancy standing around in this temple to find out the details of this world and the collars.

Kyo saw Reno freeze and, well, he couldn't blame him. Waking up and hearing the other guy's voice had done a number on him as well. But... there were other people around and all. It wasn't exactly polite to go greeting the guy you love so intimately in front of a group of strangers!

It felt like it'd been a second and forever since he'd seen him. Like three or four dreams of the same person but all with different endings. Kyo heard his name and glanced to the side, a hot red flush appearing on his face. "Hi," he finally greeted, lifting his hand, but it was painfully obvious he was restraining himself. A lot.

He did get the feeling of being watched and glanced over, arching an orange brow when he saw another guy eyeing him. He tensed slightly, not even sure why, but he was looking right back so... Luckily the question shifted focus from Reno and Jonny towards Minfilia.

The hell? She really didn't have a collar! But he kept his mouth shut rather than pointing out the obvious. At least that cleared the air enough for Sheena to give her little rundown of one aspect of this place. Kyo frowned regardless; having died once before in this hellhole, it wasn't a good reminder.

Another glance towards Cloud. Oh. A younger version of him? Kyo had met Cloud a number of times here, similar to Sheena, but like the ninja, he'd gone through enough experiences in this place not to write the blonde soldier off as someone he knew. This was a different Cloud, different person.

Wow, they were a random bunch, weren't they.

"Fine with me," he offered to Sheena's suggestion. "This place is damn creepy anyways."

"Oh, and... uh... Kyo Sohma." Late introductions. He had been about to mention they could also crash at the small house he and Reno lived at, but considering that last part, probably best to keep it inside for now. It was just... a feeling. Right.
