So this was Spira... Jade had learned about this world from the other Yuna, and even played the part of a Guardian when he had been brought to the younger version's memories. That had been a brief experience with an unpleasant end, so perhaps it was appropriate that he came along to aid her once again -- this time with more success, he hoped.

Besides, what little he'd learned of Spira had piqued his interest... though it seemed they were about to leave society behind, not study it up close. That was too bad.

"So, we're going hiking?" Jade's smile was bright as usual. The freezing wind didn't seem to bother him at all. Having grown up in a cold region had its advantages. "I almost feel at home already."

Was it the sound of the hymn again, or returning to Spira, that caused the lump her throat?

Or the fact that, Zanarkand was just around the corner. Was she just going to end up failing to stop Yuna? How could they just stumble to the end like this? The Pilgrimage was supposed to, give her more time!

Stubbornly blinking spiral eyes clear, she scans the proud Ronsos below hopefully. Shoulders falling, Rikku turns back. When she thinks Yuna won't notice, she tries shooting Sephiroth and Jade a strangely pleading look. Breath fogging, she remains silent.

Yuna takes point, heading up the path first. "I'm sorry," she apologized into the wind. "The path... maybe be gruelling," at lest with her guardians, they had signed up for this. There was a sense of responsibility she felt for the other worlds, roped into this perilous peak somehow.

As she dredged on, thousands of thoughts in her head and refusing to give any of them a voice. While they continued, several grave markers began to litter the path, some swords still in good shape, others rusted by time gone by.

And Yuna... stopped to offer a prayer to them all.

K'pandolu has been casting a few looks back, intrigued by the Ronso, so she misses any looks exchanged between the others. She focused her attention forwards at Yuna's words, squaring her shoulders. "We'll manage," she said. "We're not the first to have walked this path, are we?"

Though- the grave markers were not exactly the encouraging sign she would have hoped for. She stood back, uncertain, glancing at the others to see why they thought.

If Sephiroth hadn't paused just then, to take a stock on how the rest of their group were holding up he'd have never spotting that strange, yet at the same time noticeably direct look Rikku shot him.

He wasn't sure if Jade caught it too, but as Yuna and K'pandolu turned their attention towards the veritable hike they had ahead of them, Sephiroth slowed his pace some so that if Rikku needed to say something quietly, there could be the opportunity. She's clearly got more of an idea what might wait for them up the mountain than he did.

Swords as grave markers, there was an uncomfortable thought. Unsettling how many warriors might have gotten this far, only to fail.

Jade did catch Rikku's beseeching look and followed Sephiroth's example, slowing down a touch so that the three of them had a brief moment to themselves. Depressing though the grave markers were, at least they had Yuna occupied for a minute.

"What's wrong?" he asked in a low voice.

Rikku had lagged behind next to one of the makeshift graves. The younger girl had not offered the same gestures of prayer as their leader when the group paused before them. Her head bowed, as much an act of respect as it was to hide the whispers she returned to the two.

"Yuna...don't let her reach Zanarkand. Delay us, make us turn back for some reason. Anything."

Her cousin's footsteps crunched lightly in the snow up ahead. Slow progress, that always felt far too fast. "Summoners, they're sacrifices. She'll die! Please. Help me save her."
shinrasfinest: (Huh?)

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2016-08-25 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Of all the things that he might have expected Rikku to say, that had to be the lowest possibility on the list. Rikku had always been supportive of Yuna, so much so that it was obvious even to Sephiroth who really only knew either of them as passing acquaintances; Rikku and him had sparred on occasion in the past, Yuna he'd seen more often when he'd used to frequent the hospital more.

A flick of a glance across to Jade, questioning in case the other man had any inkling about this, before Sephiroth turned his sharp attention back to Rikku; trying to pinpoint some tell, anything, in her body language about what brought this concern on. Moreover, why bring it up now, when they were apparently reaching the end of their journey.

"- not sure that I understand..."

Taking a steadying breath, the last guardian looks up. Her features are creased with worry, yet as she moves her glance between the two there's a fierce determination in them.

"If Yuna reaches Zanarkand the way things are now, she fights Sin and dies for sure. She thinks it's the only way. It's not!" It looked like, the girl believed this at least. No need to tell them, Tidus and her - had not found it yet. The Al Bhed desperately hoped the two not being Spiran would work in her favor.

Releasing a muffled, frustrated sound, Rikku clenches a fist. The motion slow to not draw attention. "It's not like, I think you could ever stop her. Even if she wound up at the starting point of the Pilgrimage, Yuna would just start all over again. This stupid portal business totally messed up the plan to save her! You can buy me time to fix this, or I'll do it on my own. Either way you choose, your best bet of surviving this mountain - is helping me protect her."

Not bothering to wait for an answer, she turns heel to jog ahead and catch up to the summoner, letting the cold mountain air sting her face clear.

Well. Jade hardly had a chance to get a word in before Rikku was gone, leaving them to digest her demand. Yuna would die for sure...?

Yet an older Yuna had certainly existed. Not only that, but she had left her duty as a summoner behind, as far as he could tell. Wouldn't that mean she would survive this Sin, whatever that was?

Unfortunately, Jade's knowledge of the events had rather huge holes. Yuna was important to Spira, enough so to attract the attention of powerful men, but that was about all he could say for sure. He glanced at Sephiroth and gave a small shrug. They's have to play it by the ear.
grandsummon: (...!)

[personal profile] grandsummon 2016-08-29 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
During the exchange, Yuna had been rather busy herself. Alongside the rocky mountain wall, she had found a small inlet, brushing the snow off of something, assuming it to be another grave marker and instead... finding a sphere. Not only that, but one that looked recent enough in how it was constructed.

Tucking it away in one of her sleeves, she looked back at the group, and nodded, continuing up the pathway towards a rather steep cliff.

"We must... almost be at the peak," she looked on, as the wind began to kick up.

[personal profile] unyieldingspirit 2016-08-31 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
K'pandolu turned to glance at the others, head tilted- she hadn't caught so many of the words, but she had caught enough of the tone to turn her expression concerned. She glanced at the others for any thoughts they cared to give, and glanced up the pathway for a moment.

"Would we be able to see Zanarkand from there?" she asked, for curiosity's sake.

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2016-08-31 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Jade wasn't the only one for whom Rikku's quick insight had only opened questions as opposed to answers, much less the clarity that non-Spirans needed to be able to figure for themselves what was the course of action they needed to take to ensure that none of them were going to die here.

Jade's shrug was met with a returned shrug, as Sephiroth turned back to where Rikku had jogged ahead. He couldn't see Yuna ahead, and given what had just been said it concerned him instantly but once he'd caught up to the small inlet along the wall of the mountain. Releasing the breath he'd been holding in a mist of vapor as he shrugged his arms out -better to keep them moving in the cold- and paused to listen to the conversation between K'pandolu and Yuna.

"I'm... not sure," came her honest answer. "I've never been this far along the pilgrimage road until now," she looked down at that, studying the small crevice in the rock formation. Father... did you have these feelings, too?

"But," she looked back, putting on her best brave face again, "there's only one way to find out, right?" and on she trudged, having committed the small, forgotten camp, to memory.

The young guardian had not expected Jade or Sephiroth to understand and decide immediately - perhaps, not even believe her.

Hopefully, they would pay attention now after planting that warning. There would still be camps ahead to sneak away from and plot if they decided to help. She had to try.

Her boots were unusually loud as she moved in stride with Yuna, "Are you sure you don't..."

Hearing they were near the summit had felt like a curse.

"...want to wait for the others, or go find them?"

Saying it to Yuna, felt terrible, for far too many reasons. As much as Rikku wanted the excuse for them to delay -- it also seemed genuinely reckless to continue without their strength.
unyieldingspirit: (how do I put this)

[personal profile] unyieldingspirit 2016-09-02 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
K'pandolu nodded, with a soft hum. "It's a long way to come just to find that out. Certainly I'd like to see what we can see, though."

She tilted her head towards Rikku, ear twitching in thought. "Maybe if we found some shelter to wait in?" she suggested. "If we were to wait, of course."
shinrasfinest: (Attention all around)

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2016-09-05 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"-besides..."

Sephiroth was just coming into earshot as K'pandolu mentioned that it might be a good idea to find some shelter. He made a point not to connect eye-contact with Rikku at all and so instead looked from the miqo'te to Yuna.

"It's better to travel shorter distances and conserve energy where we can, in this climate, rather than pushing too far and wearing ourselves out."
jadethenecromancer: (you silly children)

[personal profile] jadethenecromancer 2016-09-05 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"True enough. Especially if there are monsters around." Jade's benign smile was back, as though it had never vanished. "We need to be alert and ready at all times."

If Rikku wanted them to buy time, that was easy enough to arrange. Yuna was unlikely to want to push the group too much.

"How about it, Yuna? Time for a break?"
grandsummon: (?)

[personal profile] grandsummon 2016-09-10 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Her eyes searched for Rikku's but were unable to maintain the contact, as they fell again to the side. "We shouldn't..." How could she explain her absence to the others? To the people of Spira? Hadn't she made them wait for their Calm long enough? She looked up again, her gaze moving across each one of their companions, and then she finally nodded.

"All right," Yuna caved, but looked up towards the north, "we'll make camp there, on the high ground. If... that's all right with everyone," there was a nod, an attempt at a smile, and then she lead the way.

It was only a short climb from where they'd been, but it would at least provide adequate shelter... probably. Unless you fell off the broadside of the cliff. A natural jut out of the rocks provided respite from the wind, as Yuna drifted down to her knees to rest.

Rikku's stomach flipped when Yuna looked away. Maybe, she was the worst, asking a painful question she already knew the Summoner's answer to. Yet her breath did not fog the air - held, hoping.

Until the older girl spoke, but then. The others chimed in, stealing this time. Every moment more valuable than all the Gil in Spira.

Thank you.

"Sounds good!" Suddenly sounding cheerful, there's the slightest of pauses after Yuna presses forwards. Then the brightly clad girl is bounding up the icy slope to flop down beside her cousin.

K'pandolu settled herself a little more sedately, and stretched out. "It's rather a tough road, isn't it?" she offered, by way of conversation. "Even living further down… I'm impressed."

Then again, she'd mostly lived in more temperature zones.

As Sephiroth came into the area given respite from the wind by the natural formation of the rocks, he raised his arms up and around the back of his neck, flicking out the vast expanse of his long silver hair which he'd let loose to keep him warm. Icicles, frost, and some damp from where it had melted already flung out behind him as he finished scoping out the small area where he'd settle for a bit.

It almost feels as though they need to get a fire going, grab a quick bite to eat...but the how escapes him. He's not sure anyone might be a black mage, either.

"It is-" He agrees with K'pandolu, finally sitting down but not before pulling all of his hair forward so he's not going to sit on it. "-destiny doesn't ever make it easy."

Jade did have fire magic, but finding dry wood to burn was a different matter... Well, they'd manage.

He crouched down and held out his hands palms up. A flaming sphere was conjured in the air and stayed suspended above his hands. Firaga was probably pushing it a bit, but at least they didn't lack heat.

"Warm up while you can, everyone," he said cheerfully. "Did anyone bring snacks?"

There was the quietest of chortles at Jade's comment. In truth, things could have been much worse. Imagine if she had landed on the mountain alone. Fighting fiends as she fought with the harsh conditions... it was truly a blessing that they were here. The blessing of Yevon... perhaps she would have thought that at one time, but now...

"Well, well, what have we here?" a voice sounded from behind the group, as a figure seemed to come in from out of nowhere. "A summoner and her guardians... have I intruded on something?"
