It seemed that Jack had been quick to take point, but the thought did occur with regards to how exactly he'd be handling others' weapons being suddenly passed to him. Kinda had his hands full already.
The same could be said for 'doing something' about his hair. Where the -rather dirty, currently- long silver mane was still tied up high it was out of his face, yet indeed the length of said tail had undoubtedly already drawn a few eyebrows as they'd progressed from the truck outside and into the school. Thankfully, Sephiroth's passenger who still managed to cling across the back of his shoulders didn't seem to be in much of a state to comprehend what Jack had just been addressing.
The look that Sephiroth delivered to the Captain, while pausing to quickly glance down between himself and the wounded man essentially hanging against his side, told both of irritation but also the fact there were for sure larger things to be concerned with than his hair, of all things. He didn't want to consider exactly what Jack might be thinking...
None of this was comfortable by any means but then now really wasn't the time to be-
"How about we just get the job done...-sir?" He forced himself to add that title on the end, having cottoned on to the plan as he'd come closer to the group.

"If-- If we just lay low in the crowds, no one will even notice us and we should be fine. Just do what we're told and we won't gain any extra attention in this chaos."
He looks to Jack. "If anyone asks, you're just an officer trying to get us to where we need to go. Right? It's just going to be hard knowing what we need to do here if all we can do is huddle in the basement and hope we don't get bombed out of existence."

"Unless this world decides to be generous and drop the clue into our laps, that is. Wait, weren't some of the shelters used actually subway stations? We could try to use the tunnels to get around."
Luckily for Saori, blending into a crowd was part of the Assassin job. She had her hood off for the moment though, just to be safe since surely a hooded figure could possibly draw attention.

Besides this soldier, they would find the shelter filled with people—Lots of medical personnel, soldiers and even some children. Many of these people looked worried and scared, but as many looked as though this was an usual occurrence for them, just a bad moment to go through. Amongst the cacophony of voices, they could hear a little boy crying, while most others tried to keep silent.
“I-I don’t want to die…”
A feminine voice replied to him—Who strangely enough would sound familiar to many of the Heroes of Light.
“No one here will die.”
“But… This is so sca-scar-…”
“Last week, you told me you wish you had died with your parents. What brought this change?”
“I-I don’t know… I still… I-I…”
“I’m proud of you. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been. You’re very brave.”
The little boy’s voice went silent after that, though he could still be heard whining and crying a bit.

It's up to the other Heroes to find out what doesn't belong here. It's up to Jack to make the rest of the world think that they do belong here. He approaches the perimeter guard, glances at his rank insignia, pauses for the lower-ranking soldier to salute first.
"Captain Jack Harkness, Royal Air Force, American volunteer with the 133, but I got separated from my unit. I'm trying to make my way back to the blockade, what's the situation here? Who is your commanding officer?"

It's decidedly a new experience, finding himself on this side of the conflict and taking in the unsettling scenery he's only ever seen in passing. Embracing the unknown requires a certain sort of bravery, so it doesn't surprise him to see so many civilians giving in to the tension of the moment. While one might grow accepting of the situation, nobody chooses to live in a war-torn world.
The woman's voice retracts the cadet from his thoughts, causing him to shift and crane up his neck in an attempt to find its source. Gentle and reassuring, it reminds him of the tone his mother used when he and his siblings were little, and not any less frightened than the child who is now spilling his tears. His attention is drawn to the pair, and he's unable to tear his gaze away even as the boy regains his composure. Is it...?

The wounded soldiers are being taken care of by the medical staff, and Santa isn't supposed to go back up and look for anyone else, so he wanders closer to the crying kid. He doesn't give a shit about the lady talking to him. Adults are always willing to rattle off platitudes without actually helping. But the kid...he knows what it's like. He wants to help him out, but he doesn't have any money or anything that isn't super weird or anachronistic to give him...
"Hey. Kid. I bet a lotta kids here have lost somebody. So, like, you're not alone. You wanna know how you get through this? You gotta take care of each other."
Shit, he sounds as cheesy as the lady who was talkin' to him before. But the kid'll do better if he gets other kids watchin' his back, and if he finds someone to protect and make him braver. It's better than waiting on some adult to swoop in and save him.

Beyond caring for Jack’s situation though, it is evident the soldier got his attention elsewhere.
“Who are these?”
The soldier’s eyes are fixed on Sephiroth and Deadpool in particular as he asks this question. Is he supposed to believe they are Americans? Sephiroth might just have particular hair and he’s ready to accept that, but the other one… Disguised like this he could be anyone—Like a German spy. Or something. Imagination runs wild pretty quickly in these kind of situations. In the meantime the little boy looked up as Santa addressed him. The woman was still holding his hand, but he looked down, apparently pondering on what Santa had just told him.
“B-But I-I…”
The kid didn’t seem to know what to reply to Santa’s words and the woman who was holding the kid’s hand turned her stare to Santa, both with a smile and a raised eyebrow. She was quick to turn her attention back to the kid however.
“Come, I’ll take you where the others are.”
With that said, she led the crying boy to the room where most other children were staying.

"Seph there, civilian contractor, but he's helping me keep an eye on him, since I've got nobody else."
Jack looks around the room. "Most everybody else was civilians we picked up on the way."
He pitches his voice a little lower for the soldier, "The younger guy with the bleached hair, Kurashiki. He's a high-value asset, communications translator. I really need to get him back to safety, too. Anybody know if this area connects to the Underground, or are we here for the duration?"

This Colonel Jackson fixed as an important detail, something they might have to see to themselves if they were to get her cooperation, that is if that's what they wanted. She opted to follow her own instinct first and trailed the woman as subtly as she could, huddling against herself and playing the role of a shellshocked civilian. She wanted to hope there was no wrongdoing here, or that she wasn't trying to flee them in this moment, but hope wasn't enough. Catching Saori's eye she gave her fellow Assassin a nod and drifted into the crowd. She'd catch up with Jack when she was sure of who it was they were seeing here.
(ooc: I guarantee you that the people in the library in the real world would be worse than the Heroes when it came to fleeing during a crisis, especially when their precious computer time is on the line)

A moment later, Sephiroth focused on the injured soldier that he was helping into the shelter -if there was the room to slip by between the guard and Jack, that is- and paused then to locate the area which had been set aside for those that needed medical attention. Santa had already made sure that his charge was in good hands, it was time for him to do the same. He helped lower the man to the place they made for him; making sure the damaged leg wasn't bashed unnecessarily before stepping back so that he wouldn't get in the way. Taking a long moment to survey how the shelter had been arranged, and the types of people who were down here with them.
He caught only a glance at the owner of the familiar voice, though, as she walked away with the small boy towards an area which had been set aside as a children's area. Quickly, but discreetly Sephiroth flicked his eyes around, locating others -such as Kidd, Saori, who were already steps ahead. Though-
-they didn't need for this to turn into an assassination. That woman was as a part of this time as were all the other civilians around. If only he could somehow make that known, without uttering a word.

"Oh, c'mon, you guys can't seriously still be mad over that, are ya?" he said in annoyance. "Jeez, I'm sorry. There, you happy?"
He crosses his arms and sulks.
"Stupid Dr. Who wanna-be, thinks he's Captain America..."

Santa hurries back to Jack. He's the one who knows the most about what's going on. He's talking with some uniformed guy, but Santa dismisses the guard right off the bat. Kalki gathering up orphans takes precedent. Santa knows what can happen when the wrong people get their hands on kids who won't be missed.
"Harkness, you see that? Where's she taking those kids?" he hisses at the Captain.

Saori followed Mary's lead and quietly tailed after the woman. She managed to quickly slip the baby to a nearby nurse before she continued. True, this woman may just simply look like her, but the two Assassins had to be sure. Was she the reason why they were brought to this specific world when no Hero, at least to Saori's knowledge, was tied to it?
Not to mention, children were being involved. As mother, Saori just couldn't turn a blind eye on that.

"No, sir. This building used to be a school. Its basement wasn't built for such an eventuality."
Those following the woman looking like Kalki would find her in the room where the children were. The little boy who had gone with her was now with the other children, whilst the woman was leaning against a wall, a book in hand as she kept an eye on the children. Her eyes sharply turned to the door though as she spotted those who had followed her-- Those least discreet about it anyway.
"Don't step in like this. You'll scare the children."
no subject
Thank you, Kurashiki, for coming up to him. He nods sharply and starts to follow him. "No. What's going on?" Hey, wait, where did everybody go? Looks like stuck in this basement is exactly where they need to be for this portal, then.
Jack pauses in the doorway when he sees her. Kalki? Stunned, shocked, like the others, but it passes quicker, and then he smiles warmly as if he's looking at an old friend. "I knew you weren't dead." The smile quickly turns into a smirk. "You still owe me that dance, after all."

...doesn't look like anything sinister is going on, far as he can tell. But he's not convinced of this world's Kalki's good intentions yet.

At first the woman had raised an eyebrow at Jack upon hearing his words, unsure whether she should smile or be concerned at the man's mental health. But then she turned to the others and looked at Santa when he called her that name.
"Certainly you must be confused. I am Doctor Sumati, a psychiatrist working here." She said and looked back at the children, smiling reassuringly at one of them as he gave her a confused smile upon seeing all these weird people, before turning her attention back to Santa. "Please keep a low profile. You are scaring the children."
no subject
"I'm very sorry. You- you look just like...someone I'm looking for." Well, didn't he just say it? Someone he thought was dead. He briefly looks away, regretful.
Jack appears to regain his composure. "Captain Jack Harkness. If we keep it down, can we stay back here? I'm not with the unit up front. We're mostly civilian contractors, they're giving us a hard time."
He is still giving the woman a very searching look, as if looking for differences between her and Kalki, but not finding them. The wheels of his mind are trying to turn quickly, he thinks he has a suspicion about what is going on here...but that's literally not possible.

While she kept a low tone Parasraya laughed to herself, as if she had heard someone make the most hypocritical declaration in the world. Though she didn't doubt maybe their presence was scaring these kids, but... Oh well. She would just stand by and let Jack and the others take care of this whole thing.
no subject
"Something you find funny with all of this?" She knew little about this era's crisis, but she saw no reason to mock someone's concern about the wellbeing of the children present.

He ignores the women at the door. Kidd, he trusts to not do anything dumb, and the other one...he's thought she's creepy as fuck since he met her on that airship way back when.

"A very long time ago I knew someone who spoke exactly like that... She was one of the most despicable yet brilliant person I can think of. Not because of what she said but because of what she thought. And I don't think she ever changed." She smiled and shrugged, looking at Sumati before walking away."Who knows, maybe there is yet hope for this one. But I wouldn't count on it."
