Are they in the Rift? Are they out of it? Does it even matter anymore? But at last, Palitutu is in front of them. Jack scowls at the people around him. So ready to fight, even here? He is far less aggressive about stepping forwards.

"Thank you. For letting me talk to him again." The Doctor. "Never thought I'd get back to him."

He looks up to the castle in the distance. "We saw what was in the Rift. Was that what you wanted to show us? Or was this?"

Stealth was always the best route for Ales. He held his computerized arm closer, squinting at Palitutu through the crowd of legs. He had a good shot from where he stood, and with the help of Levy's tireless work, he planned to disarm her with an Arm or Leg Shot if she did anything suspicious.

As much as he wanted to talk to her and learn her true motivations, he would not let himself fall prey to idealism and wish to solve the problems the Tarutaru caused by talking them away. There were many people in all universes that did not listen to reason unless it was forced upon them.

Sparks is doing and alright job of calming his trigger finger right now. But he won't reprimand Deadpool for shooting before talking, since he feels like doing the same. He even manages to not come at her with in his Magitek Armor like he wanted, but that was just a call away if they needed it.

"You better start talkin', short stuff, cuz you already know what we wanna hear."

Chrom had taken on the Crystal Knight job specifically because of the ability it granted to prevent job disabling. While he was confident he could fight on his own with Falchion, the sad truth of the matter was that the magic of Crystallis could easily pierce his normal defenses.

He arrived wearing the gaudiest armor in all the world, shimmer shards of crystal jutting out from his shoulderguards, his chestplate, and other places he generally considered too flashy.

Which was everywhere.

The fact that the disabling pulse was used at all meant he came with his sword raised instead of sheathed.

Rukia stepped out of the portal, then froze in momentary surprise as the pulse of power swept over her. The robes she wore rippled, as if caught in a light breeze, before she put a hand against her chest and looked down. Her jobs were...? Ah, she'd been afraid of that. At least she still had her zanpaku'tou, and was a skilled fighter in her own right.

If, indeed, it did come down to a fight. She couldn't share Jack's gratitude, but she held her peace for the time being. Being banished to the rift did grant her an opportunity to speak to her brother, her captain, and Renji. More importantly, she'd been able to ask Urahara for help. He hadn't been able to offer much, saying he needed to study the crystal itself, but based off of the one she herself carried, he said he might come up with something.

For an exorbitant price, of course, that bastard.

She kept a hand on her sheathed katana, ready to draw it if the need came.

They could have done without the little tour-of-duty through who-knows how many worlds over the last few weeks and Sephiroth was about as tired of all the games as the next person. Distractions, intrigues, searching endlessly for answers that none of them ever knew...he could think of a thousand better ways to have spent the time, back on Crystallis. He still hadn't seen even a whisp of green hair as to indicate where Terra had gone and could only assume that was also part of the game, at this point.

Sephiroth seems a lot tidier than he had been when they had first congregated in Order's Sanctuary, at least. The damage to his crystal-knight enhanced uniform all repaired, the silver armor at his shoulders gleaming in the light. It hid how exhausted he was starting to feel extremely well.

For now, he'll hang back and take the wider-perspective, holding Masamune out and to his left side as if he needed more of a signal for others to give him space.

Palitutu didn't move as Deadpool shot-- Artemicion did however, revealing himself as he leaped from behind Palitutu and looked at Deadpool with a judgmental (and terrified) stare. She turned to the Heroes and replied to Sparks' question at least.

"All the information you want is compiled in reports I have written in the course of my life. You have already found some... I am quite certain you will find the rest upon returning to Aqures Ixen." She then turned to Jack. "I told you. The solution to stop the Calamity doesn't exist in Crystallis."

She then marked a pause.

"You have one last challenge ahead of you. I already said it before. Garland will spare you no clemency. He will kill you if you try to spare him. He will take advantage of your weakness if you extend a hand toward him. Therefore, this is your last challenge. You have to prove that if it is necessary-- You will kill your enemy."

And with that said without sparing another second, she cast a spell at them--

BOSS BATTLE: Palitutu
Job: Crystal Researcher
Formerly known as Jessie, Palitutu is the researcher who destroyed Aqures Tosf to summon the Heroes of Light to Crystallis and Garland's adoptive mother. She claims to have stumbled upon the truth regarding the cycle during her research. Her Job is one she put together from scraps so as to keep an eye over the Heroes of Light and fix the cycle. It allows her to shift between Jobs at will according to Kalki's tape.

All Heroes of Light's health is reduced to 10%. Furthermore, they are afflicted with Curse: this ailment lasts for only one turn, but this means they will not be able to use their Limit Break for the next turn. They are all still alive and able-bodied however-- Weakened if anything. A single multiple-target attack might be able to kill them all off though.

Ales had prepared his robot for this. With the power of a fully realized Hacker, he willed his puppet to shoot Palitutu with an Arm Shot, hoping to reduce the chances of her using another spell. The puppet rolled from its hiding place in the middle of the crowd and shot, and Ales ran in the opposite direction.

She certainly didn't waste any time, did she?

Jade stayed behind the others, bracing himself as the Judgement hit them all. Luckily he was one of the Heroes equipped with Levy's special equipment and thus was able to respond quickly. Haste and Curaga on himself first, to make sure they'd still have a healer alive after this; then he could work on getting everyone else back on their feet.

Deadpool grunted at this - not only did she shut off their jobs, but also put them at 10% HP. The jerk!

But, this is where Deadpool gets to shine - he's dealt with not having his healing factor and, guess what? Being brought down to normal doesn't impede in using heavy ordenance! Which is why she's greeted with a grenade.

"This is for being a waste of time!"

Well, if that didn't cause a shudder as HP just drops away...

Sephiroth's grip tightens on Masamune, his stance spread a moment later as he once-more conjures Combat Mode to give him the extra edge -hopefully one that Palitutu wouldn't expect either since it wasn't strictly a 'base' Job. But Deadpool already reacted, his sharp eyes picking up a glint of metal-

"Get clear! NOW!"

He hoped that no one thought to pause and question as the silver-haired warrior leaps up and back away from the immediate vicinity which might be within the blast radius of the explosive.

By this point, Chiaki has fully equated Palitutu with Junko Enoshima in her head. As such, she's concluded that she has fully given into despair and that no amount of idealistic hope speeches will get through to her. Unfortunately, her Jobs are disabled, so she can't follow through with her original plan of crushing her underfoot with a ridiculous rabbit-themed mech. She does, however, have something on hand that doesn't rely on Jobs or magic at all.

She waits for the opportune moment, following the explosion of Deadpool's grenade, to lob her own projectile. There's a brief sharp sound of glass shattering, followed by an angry buzzing swarm spewing forth from the smoke as it begins to clear. Congratulations, Palitutu. You have managed to run Chiaki Nanami - someone who was literally programmed for the express purpose of spreading hope and friendship - so utterly out of patience that she has resorted to throwing a jar of bees at you.

Hope you're proud.

"Don't be an idiot."

There was at least one hero who refused to move, even though her life energy had been majorly depleted. She was breathing hard, but stood her ground armed with little more than a cool and disdainful stare.

"Prove it to who? If we kill you, you'll be dead. What will that satisfy?" Slowly Lust straightened, settling a hand on her hip as her dark lips tugged downward into a contemptuous frown. "I might be one of the last 'Heroes' who would object to killing an enemy, but you'll need to give me a better reason than that if you want me to cut down a valuable resource."

Her motivations were probably not as noble as it might appear; Palitutu was a master alchemist, and she had knowledge that Lust wanted. Desperately.

She rounded on the other Heroes and narrowed her eyes, moving closer to Palitutu. "Are you going to allow yourselves to continue being puppeted after all of your complaints about being manipulated and forced? Think for yourselves." Without her job, she had no weapons or means of defending herself, but if she had to, she would absolutely attack someone who dared to risk killing off the one person she knew might have the means of creating a Philosopher's Stone.

She'd even throw herself in front of the next attack that might have posed deadly consequences to Palitutu.

She knew she would otherwise be useless in a confrontation without her magic, yet when she feels most of her remaining vitality drop away, she doesn't hesitate. Ellana picks out a jar that seems to vibrate in her hand with a constant buzzing sound before lifting the large burlap sack (that was also buzzing louder than a few old floppy drives playing some weird-ass tune on the "internet") over her shoulder again, ready to flee at a moment's notice.

Lightly bouncing it as to aggravate whatever vilekin lingered in the glass container further, the elven mage throws the max-upgraded Jar of Bees (now with even more Wasps!) with all her might at Palitutu and Artimecion before taking flight. Though not before using another grenade on herself and those in melee range - Healing Mist.

Lydia had stayed near the back--she hadn't even WANTED to be part of this battle. At all--it was part of why she'd stayed in Aquares Ixen. But Palitutu had such a narrow idea of what a Hero was, apparently--besides being a bully.

Even so, she recognizes a grenade--especially with Sephiroth's warning. Her eyes go wide, and she is dashing away and looking for any cover she can. "Guys, MOVE AWAY FROM THE GRENADE! It has a SPLASH RANGE!" It's the only way she can think of to communicate the information to those who might not know.

Of course she also can see what the others are doing, and throwing...bees? Jars of BEES? That's BRILLIANT and Lydia's grin returns. "Anyone got anything really stretchy? We can make a sling-shot besides just throwing them ourselves!"

Pyrrha has her sword and shield drawn as soon as it becomes apparent that Palitutu stands before them, and she gives a deeply disapproving frown at Lust's speech.

"Palitutu is not a resource - she's our enemy," she retorts. "She's lied to us, manipulated us, and tried to kill us repeatedly. I don't take the idea of killing lightly, but she's shown no remorse for her actions, no willingness to listen to reason, and won't stop until we force her to."

Pointing her blade at Lust, she gives the only warning she's going to give.

"Stand down."

"Ugh..." Akane wasn't feeling so hot. She definitely wasn't one of the people who would have been prioritized for protection from job-disabling, and she'd known that.

So she'd stocked up on potions, antidotes, and ethers. When the attack came, her first thought was for her brother, who she would have been staying close to in case their jobs did get cast off.

"Aoi, here," she rummaged in her knapsack with shaking hands, pulling out a couple of vials. "Drink these to recover your strength." Because she certainly intended to do the same.

"How--can we-- no... we have to. That's right. She's manipulated all of us from the beginning. She needs to be stopped."

He gritted his teeth, and held his hand close to his chest. No, he's not dying, not yet.

Despite his cry, Mikleo was plenty aware of how to defend himself with or without his job classes. He'll fight her with his weapons if he has to but that just means getting injured and possibly even more hurt since the "Crystal Knight" job and weapons infused with it were not something he possessed.

Something he might consider investing in after this. He winces at the amount of damage that is done to him but he doesn't budge. He's not going to let her get away with all she has done to the people around him...even the ones that have passed. He's more than a bit frustrated but that didn't mean he didn't stock up supplies to save the party.

If he's going to be part of this fight he's going to contribute every fiber of his being to it, including fighting if he needed to. For the time being it was better to watch everyone from afar and gauge them. If they get hurt, he's already giving them antidotes, and potions.

Everything began so fast, and Cloud wasn't able to react as quick as he wanted. But in that moment where her spell drove him to his knee under the force of the sudden weariness, there was a cool calm that spread over him. There were ways he hoped for this to go, and ways he expected and ways he feared. And now the path was cut down. The endpoint might change, but the way forward was clear.

"Palitutu. You don't understand. You lie. You cheat. You steal. You trick. You have all of this planned out for yourself, the way you expect things to go. You call us fools for trying to find another way. You think us weak and cowards...you had all those files on us but you don't even know who we are..."

He pushed back to his feet, propping himself up with his gunblade. Leaving it leaning against his hip he reached into a pouch in his belt and began to fish around for something he'd been holding onto for so long he forgot when he got it. But he knew he'd need it.

"There are some innocents here, but most of us are fighters, soldiers, warriors in some way or another. You think we don't know how to kill someone? Most of us have. But not wanting to kill someone doesn't make us weak. It means we understand the weight of life. THAT is why we're trying so hard to save everyone we can. Because the moment you start to choose who should live and who shouldn't, it says something about yourself." The vision, the sacrifice suggested there. He wouldn't let that come to pass either.

"And if we have to kill you, it's not because of your plan, or your test to see if we can do this. We're doing this because of everything you've done, both to us and Crystallis. You play with lives because you want to be right...we're doing this because life is too important to be played with. We're flipping your board." He pulled from the pouch a large pink potion, one filled to the brim with doses of medicine. He flung the megalixir into the air and in a flash grabbed his gunblade once again. He pointed up and fired, shattering the vial and sending the potion raining down on everyone, restoring their HP and MP to full.

Rialynn staggered up to her feet, refreshed. She was no stranger to being a Freelancer, but she'd kind of been hoping that she might be able to use the legendary melodies she'd been practicing.

So much for that!

She drew her rapier, shifting her weight in indecision. She wasn't really eager to kill Palitutu, just like she had no real intentions of killing Garland no matter how many people kept trying to push them onto that path. But she didn't want to lay down and die arguing for peace, either.

She glanced uncertainly at her friends, Duster, Ramza, and K'pandolu, and shrugged slightly. Whatever they chose to do, she'd help them, but more than anything she wanted to pay attention to what happened in this fight so it could be recorded in the genrations to come.

"Cloud's right. You act like you're above everything, like some sort of God who decides who lives and who dies. I know you're not going to respond to us. Because if you respond to us, that means you have to actually think about what you've done." Twilight said. "You don't want to do that, do you?"

Once that grenade goes off, Twilight's charging, horn out. She may not have her magic, but she can still fight.

"You don't want to think about the people you've killed or the worlds you're going to shatter. Only if you survive. You're no hero. You're no villain or even a God. You're just a pathetic little nobody who's scared of death and is trying to cheat it."

However, Twilight isn't going to attack Palitutu - she's going after Artemicion, intending on ramming him and sending him to the ground.

"And you, cowardly following her every order and treating us with the same contempt. I hate to break it to you, but you give Moogles a bad name."

"Enough talkin'. We're long past that."

Why was everyone even bothering? Palitutu wasn't going to listen. Her opening move hurt, but it didn't stop Sparks from summoning his Magitek Armor. He doesn't have much in the way of group healing, but he can use the armor's Healing Force to help out those around him a little, and himself a little more.

After that, it's time to ready the missiles.

Sheena grunted softly as she got to her feet. It was one thing to suddenly be powerless, another to have most of your life drained away. And for a moment, she looked at Palitutu with narrowed eyes.

She could kill them at any time, so why didn't she? Why didn't she just hit the reset button on all of this instead of having them fight all the time? Because of that, Sheena felt they were on the right track with their research and questions.

Something her ego might possibly not be able to handle--after all the work she had put into it during her lifetime.

A few things began to click together for the ninja, but for the moment, she put them to the side. They had to get through this before they could do anything else. And Sheena believed that they could--Crystallis Jobs or not. All of them were skilled fighters to begin with.

And while others focused on Palitutu, Sheena went towards Lust.

"You heard the lady, stand down!"

Mary flicked her wrist, the blade popping from her left sleeve while she drew her sword with her right. She knew she was at a disadvantage with her job skills blocked, but she at least had her own personal training. Palitutu could stop them from doing many things, but she'd still be an Assassin until she died.

She just hoped it wouldn't be today.

"Well past it. I've been wanting to put my blade to use on the little wench for a while now..." She walked forward slowly. She was exposed and that wasn't her preferred style. And she wasn't precisely looking forward to being in a position to use her Limit Break again. "But now all of a sudden you want us to fight you to the death? And what neat little trick of yours will go off when your heart stops I wonder?"
