Event || Revelations

Characters: All the Heroes of Light and their Moogles.
Where: Order's Sanctuary, The Interdimensional Rift and their Homeworlds.
When: August 03rd - August 30th

Summary: Following the battle against Palitutu, all the Heroes of Light were transported into the Interdimensional Rift. They were told by Palitutu they would have to find her to prove they can break the cycle-- But before they could reach their destination, a malevolent entity from the Rift stripped them from their immortality...

And now, they woke up in a decaying and dying world, most specifically in a place called Order's Sanctuary. From there they are ready to jump... Into their homeworlds! Feel free to use this post for the Mingle at Order's Sanctuary and should your homeworld be the stage for the Heroes of Lights' next adventures, feel free to make a thread for it and as many sub-thread as necessary! Please refer to the OOC Post for questions and plotting.

Kyo jerked, eyes widening as that sound hit him right in the face. Those words. Hands cupped at his head, holding him there, and he instinctively tugged, wanting to pull his face away and avert his eyes. But the grip refused and his heart rate escalated, breathing shortening. Everything Reno said, it hit him. It hit him hard and slammed into the life he’d come from. Those dreams he had… the memories of a life he couldn’t have but in tiny pieces that might go away at any moment…

Stop it… “Don’t—!“ Reno shouldn’t be talking to him like this! He couldn’t stop what happened to Reno or himself! Whether he came or went. Stop it. “Don’t, Reno! It happened, it’s going to happen, and you shouldn’t… you shouldn’t—!” Feel guilty, keep trying, hold on. He didn’t want to be a burden, a weighty memory that held the man back, a source of his pain and frustration, poisoning whoever came next. But above all—Stop it!—don’t say those three words!

I love you.

His eyes were pools of red in a sea of white, staring at Reno like he’d just stabbed him in the chest. Maybe in a way he had. “…I miss you.” The words came out soft, trembling, Kyo’s lower lip quivering in effort to hold it in. “Every night, it’s like dream.” Why couldn’t Reno see… No, it wasn’t Reno. Kyo curled his fingers in the man’s shirt, other hand wrapping a death grip on Reno’s wrist. Feel something.

“I just wanted to stay there with you!” His words exploded out of his mouth and he pulled him close. “I don’t want to be a burden; I don’t want to be a sad memory! I want to stay with you, Reno!” Yelling, tears coming, denying all the reality around them that said none of this would last. “I love you! I finally got to say those words and mean them, have them returned.” Kyo pushed his face against the other man’s hands, trying to get closer to him. He knew… He knew Reno didn’t think about him like that, didn’t think about him as a substitute or some curious attraction. He wasn’t an object to him… He knew that… but…

“I can’t stay close to you and I kills me!”

There -- there was the emotional reaction that Reno was looking for. There was honesty. That was all he wanted. Kyo didn't have to hide his feelings from him, like from his trash family. As much as Reno never wanted Kyo in pain... it was inevitable. So he at least wanted to know, so he could take it away.

"Kyo..." Reno tugged him in to his chest, holding him tightly. "I know... I know..."

It had killed him, too. What was worse than being without Kyo at all was the kid in the hospital, the crystallized form of Kyo's youth, essentially a shiny corpse. Visiting that every day for months, hoping he'd wake up and magically somehow become the Kyo he knew. Waiting, and nothing. Having and not having Kyo at the same time.

"Come with us. When we find the portal out..." Reno just held his lover, stroking his hair. He felt like his heart was being tugged in two directions between Kyo and Johnny. But if he left Kyo behind again, he knew it would be torn apart.

"Just... come back with me."

Kyo stumbled forward as Reno pulled him, leaving the Turk’s hands wet with tears he never wanted to shed but couldn’t hold back any further. Pressing to him, to the warmth that was so familiar to him. Warmth that took all those memories faded away in a dream and brought them surging back into the blinding reality. He remembered all of it, from their quiet nights in the apartment to their struggles against creatures that wanted them dead to their first accidental kiss… to the blazing night where the world was ending and everything finally came to light. When Reno showed him… love.

It was inevitable. It was painful. But… But at least for a little while, it could be. Kyo wrapped his arms around Reno, crushing his shirt into his fists. The way he said his name, the tenderness and affection in his voice, so different than his life back home. The quiet I know wasn’t a lie or trite words. He meant them, and Kyo knew he did. He didn’t know what Reno experienced beyond here, what Kyo was beyond here… but he just wanted to go with him and stay there.

Hands in his hair, touching and holding him, stroking over his head as he tried his best to stop the flow of tears, but only managing to grit his teeth and keep the sounds inside, barest hisses or shivers that his pride alone couldn’t keep inside. “Reno… You know, I’ll go with you… Wherever you want me to.” Head in his chest, eyes closed, arms clutching him tight. “I’ll go with you.”

Reno didn't know how he'd make this work, but he would. He had to. He'd figure something out.

For now, he'd simply hold and rock Kyo until the tears abated and they could return to the others. He didn't want Kyo embarrassed. But he didn't want Kyo to feel as if he had to bottle everything up inside -- especially not with him.

Kyo sighed and leaned in further to the embrace, head turning to rest his cheek against Reno's check and gaze/glare over the side of his arm. This... this sucked. It really really did. The tears were already stopping, his pride and stubbornness coming back again.

But Reno had seen it, and Kyo let him. He cried for what he had, cried for what he lost, and cried for what he wanted. Even as the tears slowed, none of those things changed. The rocking motions lulled him, breathing slowing from a fast sobbing to softer breaths. At least this was... separate from the group. He really didn't want to burden them anymore. Or embarrass the hell out of himself.

"I guess you already had your breakdown, hm," he murmured. Reno must've cried already... before he had to move on.

Reno took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to suppress the tremble that manifested anyway. "Yeah, he admitted quietly. "Something like that."

If Kyo were to come with him, it was only fair that Reno should prepare him.

"Yer body is there... on Crystallis," he began. "A young you, I dunno, like fifteen? Sixteen? He must've arrived before I did... but I never met 'im. Not before he was turned t' crystal."

He paused. "That's what happens there. When people 'leave' -- or die. They don't disappear. We can't say they go home, not for sure. They turn t' statue. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't. You... an' yer cousin, Yuki... haven't."

Kyo felt the tremble regardless of that attempt to control it and he frowned. But didn’t pry. Reno was honest with him, admitted he had, and he didn’t need to dig it up. He still felt bad enough that all this had happened. Though… something told him wasn’t going to like what was coming next.

He… didn’t expect that. The cat’s mouth dropped open and he jerked his head back to stare at Reno. “My body?” His voice shivered a little, not sure what he was talking about or even saying. Crystallis, he knew, at least was the world Reno went to and came from after Amat. But… Kyo frowned. “I… I’m sixteen in my world,” he murmured, not sure if Reno would be fine with that information. At least his experience in Amat gave him more acceptance of other worlds and timelines.

Still… “YUKI?!” His eyes widened and Kyo’s shout probably went through half the temple. Reno met Yuki?! His cousin?! A rush of emotions surged across Kyo’s face. From outright animosity to dumbfounded shock to a briefest flicker of concern. Apart from that, he was left sputtering.

"Yeah... I thought that might've been it." Most of the Heroes on Crystallis came from their home worlds, though there were a few -- like Reno and Johnny -- who'd stopped over elsewhere. For Kyo to be that young, Reno guessed he must have come straight from Japan. Not that he could ask.

"Don't worry." Reno rubbed Kyo's shoulder, reading the rush as it progressed. "I dunno what animal he was, but he was actually pretty discreet. He was pretty stunned I knew as much as I did about you guys."

"He an' I arrived the same day, same place, so we kinda helped each other find you? He was older, though, so I guess he was from your future. Long story short, before he crystallized, he kinda saved my ass once, so... even if you hated his guts when you were a kid, try not to immediately jump 'im if he wakes up?" Reno still didn't expect them to really get along, but he could at least try to delay a fight.

Odd to find himself back in a more grown up body. He’d woken up on Amat at eighteen and lived there almost a year and a half… To wake up sixteen again and suddenly return here to being almost twenty was kind of a head rush now that it was brought to his attention. Still… that damn rat was also somewhere else? He said he never wanted to see anyone from his world appear in Amat and despite his dislike for his cousin, that truth rang solid. He felt bad, guilty almost, as if it might be his fault Yuki got pulled into Crystallis. Wasn’t it always the cat’s fault… He offered a soft huff when Reno said he didn’t know what animal he was. It… It was a nice attempt to calm him and he appreciated it. “Yeah well… we’re not supposed to talk about our family much to strangers,” Kyo admitted. ‘Discreet’ huh, was just like Yuki. Even in a strange world, Yuki was still being the perfect prince he always was.

Bastard.

“I’m sure he was real eager to find me,” Kyo droned, eyes rolling as he looked away with a frowning pout. An older Yuki. Just like Kyo had been older too. He wondered if it meant anything, if Yuki changed or if he was still the same insufferable jewel of the family. But… he held his questions back. Wouldn’t do anything to learn about it. Though when Reno mentioned that Yuki saved Reno’s ass—“HE WHAT?!”—the cat’s hackles flared up visibly and the exclamation seethed down into a snarl under his breath. God dammit! That rat was always trying to one up him and steal away what was his; he couldn’t even have a friend, a lover, without Yuki somehow finding his way there and getting involved! Showing them the “better” side of the family. Showing Kyo up. He hated it. He hated it… hated that that revelation alone almost felt like it poisoned what he had with Reno. He was fine with the Turk having other lovers, hell he was even “fine” with Reno moving on after they were separated (not that he liked it, but he accepted it).

But to think Yuki of all people--!!!

It took several visible seconds of internal warfare and bitter, unintelligible words for the cat to force himself to calm down. Reno was… Reno was worth more than that. Reno was worth more than his currently-petty family issues. He was better than Kyo’s jealousy and dislike towards his cousin. And, despite his issues, Kyo had matured some during his time in Amat. His memories from this place swarming his mind helped remind him of that. And, bitterness ignored, Kyo was… grateful to Yuki for saving Reno. However it happened.

He rubbed at the side of his face, fingers digging into his bangs and the heel of his palm pushing against his eye and cheekbone. “Geeze, you’re always getting into trouble no matter where you go, aren’t you.” As for jumping Yuki… well that depended on two things. First, if Reno was there with him. Second, if the damn rat kept his mouth shut and didn’t try to start something! “I’ll try,” he grumbled, looking up at his boyfriend—well, as far as Kyo was concerned, he still was—through his uncovered eye.

"Well... I might've made him help me." Reno smirked. "I found out he was a Sohma, I wasn't about t' take no for an answer."

If it meant finding Kyo, Reno would use whoever he had to. And maybe he did.

"What...?" He frowned, though, at Kyo's outburst. Who was Yuki to him that the mention of such a favor would make him so angry? Even having the Sohma name, being from the judgmental Sohma family, even with that shadow on Yuki's reputation, Reno would have assumed Kyo would be at least somewhat relieved that Yuki had been helpful. It dawned on him belatedly what context their current situation might add.

"Whoa! Whoa, whoa, no, Crystallis is nothin' like Atia, nothin' like that happened!" he added hurriedly. "No, that is not... what I meant. At all."

Kyo blinked at that, and then shook his head with an exasperated sigh. Well, that was like Reno, wasn’t it. “You… sap,” he grumbled, but obviously touched that Reno would go through such lengths for him. Even if it did involve forcing his cousin to look for him. He still wasn’t fond of the idea of Yuki helping Reno track him down. Not that he blamed Reno for it at all; he just didn’t like Yuki getting involved in his life. (Even if he was, obviously.)

Yes, he was relieved that Yuki had helped Reno, but… Ugh, this wasn’t going to make much sense to Reno unless he went into detail. And, well… the Turk knew how much Kyo loved talking about his past. Though he started a little when Reno suddenly seemed to make a connection. And started protesting? An orange brow went up and he peered at his boyfriend for several seconds. He got that Crystallis wasn’t like Atia (assumed he got it). But after a few seconds, his brain put it together and he recoiled instantly.

“NO!” Kyo made a face, lifting his own hands to wave at the idea. “Hell, no I wasn’t—I didn’t think that!” Ew gross, now he was thinking that and it made his stomach twist. “Honestly, Reno, I didn’t think that at all!” He guessed about Johnny but didn’t think Reno acted like he did in Atia when he wasn’t in Atia.

With a frustrated sigh, he rubbed at his head again. “No it… It just… Tsk, Yuki’s always been better than me, more liked, the “perfect” one in the family. Even if someone meets me first, if they meet Yuki, it… They just go to him, okay?!” Even as he said it, he felt guilty, stupid. Because he knew Reno better than that. Knew he didn’t have to doubt him. And yet… it was hard to shake what he just returned from again.

“Sorry… I just…” Don’t want you to leave me.

Well that was a relief, at least. Even when Reno fucked other people, he tried not to go after ones who were related.

"Why? Because he's quiet an' polite with pale skin like a delicate flower?" Reno scoffed. "That don't do it for me. People ain't quiet 'cause they got nothin' to say."

It was the quiet ones who had a lot more going on upstairs -- for better or worse. They were the thinkers, the clever ones, and that made them dangerous -- never saying what they thought, lying by omission, plotting with a straight face. It's what made Rude an excellent partner. But it's also why Reno wouldn't trust a "perfect" stranger.

"Nobody's perfect. Someone who looks that way 's too good to be true, yo." Reno gave a half shrug. "He came through in a pinch. He was a nice enough guy. But I don't prefer 'im."

Kyo wasn’t really one to go talking about Reno’s habits or his love life. But he wasn’t able to stop those feelings when it came to his own family. Honestly, he shouldn’t care what Yuki did, but… He was glad neither he nor Reno had to deal with that pile of awkward.

A small “hmph” slipped out and Kyo averted his gaze, red coloring his face when Reno confronted him about his outburst. It was… Well it was damn embarrassing! He’d just freaked out like some jealous kid! Even if it hadn’t been what either of them thought, the issue was still there! Kyo was jealous of Yuki and hated the rat’s damn guts!

But at least Reno’s words helped. He didn’t even find it in himself to doubt the other man (mostly because he knew Reno well enough to know what he was saying was true.) He sighed and ran his hand through his hair, nodding in agreement to the other man’s words. Of course Reno wouldn’t be drawn to “perfect” because that was more or less a slap in the face to everything Reno stood for and came from.

“Sorry,” he finally mumbled, embarrassed and frustrated, but relieved regardless. “I’m not pissed at you or anything…” Hell, he’d been with Reno calmly while Rufus and Cloud had both been involved with the Turk. Honestly, their relationship might even be seen by some as merely “leftovers,” two people who had no one else to turn to and yet lived together. Of course if was much more to that than Kyo. He loved Reno, honest and true. Regardless of what people said.

“I’m glad he helped you. Really. You’re… the most important person I’ve got. So…I’m glad.”

"Good." Reno smiled and reached out to stroke Kyo's cheek fondly. There was so much more he wanted to do, so much more he wanted to say. Later. They'd have time later, once this was done and they were all safely in Crystallis again. He hoped Johnny wouldn't mind Kyo coming to live with them. They could easily get a larger apartment if they had to (though that was hardly the issue).

He'd figure it out.

"Alright." He gave Kyo one last kiss on the forehead. "We should head back. I just didn't wanna leave things the way they were."

Kyo pinked hotly as Reno stroked his cheek and he glanced to the side, embarrassed but obviously happy. Even if they had reunited in these strange circumstances and things had happened... it was an indescribable relief to know that their feelings remained with each other. But he knew there was more, more to say, more to do, more things that lingered.

It'd have to come later. When they had a way out of this place once again. When he would follow Reno once more. Willingly, wantingly. Figure things out later though. Right now, there were more pressing matters.

Kyo whined some at the kiss on his forehead. Then caught the other man by the collar and pulled him down and close. Lips pressed to lips and he kissed Reno firmly on the mouth, eyes closing at the familiar sensation and longing.

A gentle breath and he separated. "Okay. Thanks. I'm glad you told me. Sorry... for being kinda a dick about it."
