"Yeah."

When the hand's not taken, Kyouko sits on the ground beside Sayaka. Shifting to a comfortable position to wait it out until her counterpart feels rested enough to leave. She has no intention for things to be different here.

The grief seed stands erect on the ground where it landed, but that's a wound easily set aside. Acting rotten when you're hurting was something the orphan understood - so was chasing away the people you needed most.

Even if she was rough around the edges, even if it involved threats or violence sometimes, Kyoko... really was trying to be a friend, after all their rocky beginnings. She could see it now, even as she didn't take the grief seed, even as she sat there listening to her like this, when nothing made sense anymore.

"I'm sorry... I wasted your time."

There's a light pop as the top was removed from a can of chips, as the redhead prepares to take use of the idle time in the best way she knew how. She'd already pounded through some when the comment gives her pause.

"Huh?" A crimson glance tilts over to assess her friend. "You're not acting like yourself."

"Yeah," her eyes fell further to the side. "That's because... I don't really care anymore," she tried to sound nonchalant about it, almost. Like it was no big deal at all. As though she had been trying to convince herself all this time that it was true. If she just didn't care anymore, then...

"I don't know anymore... what exactly I was trying to protect. Or what was so important to me." The world around her was starting to feel dim, cold. She opened the hand that usually bore her ring, revealing a shadowy soul gem, swimming in despair.

At the reveal of the dark soul gem, Kyoko's filled with horror.

How? How could it already be this bad?! How could she not have known?

The grief seed! Kyoko snatches it up, praying it's enough as she moves it towards the dying gem. There was never a question in her mind of who to protect.

It's as though Sayaka doesn't even notice the other girl's movements. Or maybe there's just nothing left inside of her with any more desire to care. There was no saving her now. "The balance between hope and despair— it keep itself at zero. When was it you told me that?"

She slumped down a little further, feeling weak, and letting that feeling finally wrap its cold embrace around her. "I understand what you mean, now." The hand holding her gem twitched, just a little.

"I did save a few people, but in exchange, hatred and jealousy filled my heart. I even... hurt my best friend," ever so slightly, her voice cracked at that last bit.

Breath held, the grief seed clenched tight in a palm. Kyoko hesitates from trying to draw it close to the once blue gem at the words - and shaking hand.

This girl, always running from her - if only because she was being chased. She had to do this delicately. Perhaps somewhere the Lancer knew it was hopeless - and was someone who just refused to give up.

In the back of her mind she wonders what the caped magical girl did to the pink haired girl - but does not care,

Her hand's turn to shake now, it inches towards Sayaka's gem with the false hope.

"Someone has to be cursed to balance out a wish for someone else's happiness..." just as her voice started to shake, so too did the world around them. As though this Mitakihara had just been an illusion all along, it started to crumble and quake around them, small bits of the sky twinkling down to the breaking earth.

"That's how magical girls work..." the shards of reality began to come down in larger pieces, as Sayaka leaned backwards, her eyes filled with tears, as a solitary stray fell down onto the soul gem, cracking its surface, as the main plaza of the world of Crystallis took shape behind the falling puzzle pieces around them.

"I was stupid... so stupid."

All these hopeless words, from the girl who had helped her find some again. Crimson eyes are locked onto the once blue gem. Sayaka seemed, seemed --

In the girls mind's eye, a man hangs from a noose.

So Fragile. Just as the grief seed may have come close, it crumbles. "Ah! Shit!"

Sayaka, her soul gem! Kyoko's watched with terror as the tear struck.

And everything comes crashing down.

There's a far off scream somewhere in the world that's falling apart. The sounds of a violin, the shattering of a darkened grief seed that comes from seemingly nowhere. In the blackness beyond, the form of a witch takes shape, as Sayaka's body falls lifelessly to the ground.

Out from the shadows between dimensions, dancing familiars have come to play.

Maybe this was, all just a bad dream.

There's the slightest of pauses after everything shatters, including her friend.

A red gem appears and her transformation is a quick one. Dashing over to stand sentinel over the still form of the blue haired girl, the modules of her lance unfurl in a predatory fashion.

"What the hell did you do to her you stupid witch?!"
dolente: (attack!)

In the backdrop, the witch brings down a sword, as the music around them rises crescendos to life. The dancing girls begin to launch themselves at Kyoko and the fallen girl, as spinning wheels take shape and gain momentum.

A pedestal rises, revealing the mermaid tail of the witch, a siren come to drown her prey.

Not good.

Kyoko is a fierce fighter, but Sayaka is too vulnerable. A whirlwind of whip like attacks with the twirling familiars keep them at bay - but fighting in one place won't work for long.

Hands clasp together as if in prayer, a red chainlink barrier rising up from the ground between the girls and where the witch resides.

The force of the whirlwind caused Sayaka's body to turn just slightly, as her face stayed down, the weight of her head keeping it grounded as her limbs contorted strangely.

The familiars scattered wildly, putting up no fight, though they rose again with the intention to twirl close and closer, mindlessly drawn to the magical girl. As the barrier erected, Oktavia reached with an unforgiving sword to smash against it, wham, wham, wham!— as the tiny arms and legs of the dancers joined in the chorus.

Behind them, Crystallis was starting to come in more clearly, the colours and sounds returning to the world... making one wonder which place the dream may really be.

God, Sayaka...

This was no time to be cocky about her fighting abilities, dream or reality - she had to choose. Fight the witch, or get the fallen girl to safety. It was clear she would not survive both.

Kneeling down in order to lift up the dead girl, the reality of Sayaka's state hits her harder than Oktavia's sword - even as the attacks drain her magic until the barrier collapses.

A sheen of sweat plastering red bangs to her forehead, breath labored, she summons up a new curtain of red to protect them - this one weaker than the last.

Crystallis. They were happier there. Maybe if she gets the fallen magical girl there, she'll even just wake up from a nightmare!

There's a backlash that has the witch yelling something incoherent, a mixture of some animalistic cry— laced with the familiar sounds of a voice that's been lost. There's a new wave of spinning wheels, conjured in time to make it past this second wave of a barrier, though it kept the witch at bay, much to it's frustration.

More cries sounded into the night, fading as this otherworldly familiar landscape became more and more real, but haunting all the same.

And just like that, Mitakihara finally vanished, leaving the two girls in the night air, safe in the town's square.

Kyoko's breath forms a fog in the air when she finally slows to a stop. Sayaka cradled between two arms as if the two were not near the same size. At her heart and in her heels she still feels the witch, looking behind them once more to make sure the coast is clear.

"...Hey." she gives the blue haired girl a nudge, as if trying to jostle her awake.

At the movement, Sayaka's body stiffens immediately. Not wholly unlike you might expect rigor mortis to be like, except for the fact that she nearly seemed to spring into it.

It started with her extremities, shoes and fingertips looking as though they burned white, as crystal formed from them, cascading up her limbs, moving almost snakelike with a clinking sort of sound, as it formed all around her.

Crystal stasis had claimed another.

"Sayakaaa!"

Kyoko clasps the girl that's already gone close to her, as if it could make a difference. Her muscles tense as the weight dramatically increases as stasis takes over.

A crystal form in her arms, the redhead shaking and defeated, falls to her knees. Twisting in a sacrificial manner to ensure Sayaka takes no harm.

She had, one precious thing worth protecting. It wasn't changing now.
