The Killer Of Worlds

And near the edge.
She grew uncharacteristically silent--a definite klaxon alarm to those who knew her. Much more than seeing her suddenly jump into the Abyss to go after those who were down there would be. Nope. This time, she was thinking it over, and still reaching the same rash conclusion.
She was going down there. She didn't know what she'd find, or who, but she was definitely going.
Reaching the precipice, she peered over the edge and took up a diver's position and began to lean forward, one wry thought coming out softly.
"Well, I was about to fall into a hole sooner or later."
no subject
Someone who was usually quiet had been keeping track of those he cared about--including Sheena--and what was going on. Seems she was lost in her own thoughts, as Vincent followed her. Before she could lean too far, he looped an arm around her waist, careful of the claws of his gauntlet but pulling her back and holding her securely.
For good measure, he smoke-bombed them both away towards the center the platform as well, and kept that arm around her.
"We'll find another way, Sheena."
no subject
Since no one has really objected in her holding onto it until now, she might as well take it. Besides, it would've been a waste of well crafted blade from what she could see. She looked out into the Abyss, contemplating what should be done. The fight with Kalki seemed so one-sided just now. There was just no way that was it. Was this some sort of plan to break up the Heroes and make them into easy pickings? Saori swiftly sheathed the newly acquire sword as she pushed that thought aside.
Unfortunately, Eagle Vision doesn't work on tracking souls...What if it could see where the others went? "I'm not leaving until we can confirm where the others are. I have an idea." Saori walked over to the edge and cast Ceiling Walking on herself.
"I can try walk on the side and underside of the platform and see if I can spot anything." She crouched down, getting ready to plant her feet on the side of the platform.
no subject
She couldn't stop him if he truly wanted to go through with the decision, and ultimately wouldn't try to, but she could at least allow her displeasure to be known with the way she spoke his name with mingled exasperation and trepidation. Sighing and acknowledging she'd done the best she could, there was nothing left for her to do but to accept Barkeep's offer to be Teleported away, secretly glad she wouldn't have to attempt the feat to get Akane and herself out given the state of her wounds, carefully adjusting her in her arms.
Watching the Heroes readying for whatever might be coming, the echoes of the vision that befell her months ago during the battle with Palitutu came to the forefront of her mind. Closing her eyes, she pushed the dreadful feelings away as best she could. "We need it... The fourth crystal. I know it feels dangerous, but we'll need it if only so one of the other Avatars allied with us... can use it."
Taking one last glance at the people around her, she took the extra time to look at her companions from Auldrant in particular, then lingered on her partner. "... We'll be waiting for your return, all right?"
no subject
Once again, his voice wasn't exactly brimming with confidence as he walked over to the edge of the platform. Some Heroes had already given in to their desperation. If any more of them attempted to venture down into the abyss unprepared, they could be facing a much larger issue than it had originally seemed.
Then he took his first step, activating Flight. Unlike Saori, he wasn't bound by any limitations when he began his descent, but it seemed against all logic to just dive in headfirst. For that reason, he took his time, studying the heavy clouds beneath for any alarming signs. Should he as much as feel a tug at his feet, he would fly back up - or at least try to. After all, he wouldn't be of any use if he allowed himself to be drawn in by the darkness...
... But on the other hand, he was also desperate to know what's lying beyond.

She heard Yuri nearby contemplating the same thing and marched right over to him and gripped his right hand tightly in one of her own. She couldn't tell what was going through his head but Selphie knew that was at the forefront of his thoughts. She knew they had to get their friends back before anything happened to them but she was grasping at straws. She just knew that her friend would do anything to save them, no matter the cost or consequence.
"Yuri..." Selphie said quietly, looking up at him with an alarmed look. "We'll find another way but don't jump. We need you here."
no subject
Her head turned to examine the Black Crystal with open suspicion. "Besides, I don't trust that...thing. What if it's set to explode and kill us all where we stand in one last act of spite? We need to leave, regroup, and make a new plan. Help us escort the injured back to the Enterprise."
Despite the firmness of her command, she meant no ill will toward Yuri. He'd been a good friend to her almost from day one. She trusted him. And she would not see him lost so easily.

When he turned to face the remaining Heroes, his expression was serene, and his once-brown eyes now shone purple.
"I am sorry, my friends. This really is the only way."

Advanced Jobs: Killer of Worlds (Onion Knight + Calamity Knight); Seeker of the End (Crystal Researcher + Calamity Knight)
Kalki after she took over the body of a Hero of Light, Ramza, as only they have the power to become one with the Calamity. Because Ramza's consciousness still lingers within this body, Kalki has the unique ability of wielding three Jobs at once.
Ramza-Kalki lifted the Black Crystal and cast one final spell. Although no damage or status effects befell the Heroes of Light, something very evident did happen:

The ground started shaking as the floating platform slowly broke down, its edges crumbling and falling into the abyss. It wouldn't be long till the platform was gone altogether, and the flight of stairs leading back to the surface was dangerously shaking as well. Anyone who was on the edges only had a few seconds to run to safety. Kalki didn't seem to mind and stood right where she was-- Any attempts at attacking her would result in Ramza's body phasing out and avoiding the attacks.
The energy field preventing anyone but Heroes of Light from using the stairs vanished, and as such all the Moogles would be able to rush down if they so wanted. Odds were that the white balls of fur would be quite panicked upon being reunited with their companions as the shaking at the surface was far, far worse than it was around the platform, and they would be able to tell the Heroes of Light as much if they so wanted. They would also be able to tell them the Enterprise is on stand-by, if they need it.

"Ramza, we trusted you!" Tsubomi called out. "The Knights trusted you! There was always another way! Why did you give up so easily?!"
no subject
"Kalki."
His tone shifts to anger, and he futilely yells out.
"Why... how could you take him! Ramza...! Ramza-san! Snap out of it!"
Minato felt the rumble underfoot, signalling that there was no choice to stay here. Again, she was so calm, again, they played into her hands; taking one of their most idealistic left with her. Minato's eyes quickly fell back to those closest to the edge, fearful for their safety. He wasn't the likeliest to make it in time lest they lost balance, but he would damn well try if it came to that, if it came to sprinting to their rescue.

Above all else, the feeling is familiar. This is precisely the edge that he was on when he was able to kill his own grandson. Was it wrong to kill him if it saved the world? They're at another situation where Jack cannot take Ramza's place.
Jack raises his sword, and then closes his eyes, and shoves it back into its scabbard. He turns to Chiaki. "There's still hope to fix this. To fix whatever she does. But not here. And not by killing another friend."
no subject
She nods at Jack, and then looks at the others. "Jack's right. We don't have to give up on Ramza - and we shouldn't give up on him - but we need to regroup. Kalki is too strong right now. We have to escape and come up with a plan. It's not too late for Crystallis or for any of us, but only if we survive this."
no subject
Shit. They'd fallen for it, after all.
"That's not Ramza," Ira hissed, hidden blade retracting back under his sleeve as he said it. Of course. Of course that's what she'd do. Her own form wasn't enough, no, she had to go and do that too. "None of that was!"
"I-Ira?" Lin raced down the stairs to her Hero the moment the barrier disappeared, wobbling as the stairs shook. "G-guys, it's terrible out there, kupo! The E-Enterprise is ready t-t-to take you all, but we have to h-h-hurry!"
Ira nods, gesturing towards his Corridor. "Everyone, this will lead us to the Enterprise! If you can walk, carry someone who can't! If we are to survive to save our friend, we must go now. ... Unless you'd prefer taking your chances with the stairs or down below."
He keeps his Corridor of Darkness open for anyone who would prefer to retreat to the Enterprise, and will wait until everyone either passed through or decided to brave the conventional means.
That and he is super worried about Saori at the edge, there.no subject
"We need to kill him before the worst happens!" He commanded his puppet to fire at the possessed Ramza with a Leg Shot, not wanted to waste any time. While it would not kill the vessel alone, there was a chance it would immobilize Kalki and offer more solutions to stopping her.
no subject
"Kupoooooo~" With the barrier finally down a little eager fluffball fluttered her way into the chamber, hood tugged down and little sword drawn. The floor was breaking up and it was a frightening sight but she was sure of herself. She lamented the lack of high things she could leap from but then that meant it would be a good chance to show off to Mary how much she had been practicing her counter strikes against a nefariously wobbly training dummy.
"I'm here to help, kupo! Where's Garland, kupo!"
no subject
He tried to brace himself against the upheaval of the platform, using his sword as needed to keep himself steady. "RAMZA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" The look on his face was utterly fraught with anger, sorrow and fear in a delicious betrayal stew.
He didn't want to leave. Not without an explanation. Not without some understanding of what was going on. It was thanks to dumb luck that his stumbling across the platform brought him closer to Ira's Dark Corridor. Close enough to be pulled in if need be.
no subject
So much for surveying the platform. She had wanted to stay to see if there was a sign of the missing heroes but there was no time. One Smoke Bomb was enough for Saori to get to the staircase. Before she goes up, she turns back to Ramza-Kalki.
"Ramza, if you're still in there, hang in there. And Kalki, you just made the worst mistake yet by possessing him." She walks through, pulling up her hood and trying to stay strong until she's on the other side.
Except she heard Bonnie and her strong front crumbles. She pulls the eager Moogle into her arms and runs up the stairs. Her voice cracks, "Garland's dead, Bonnie. We need to get out and Mary..." She couldn't say it and pushes herself to run straight to the Enterprise. With her heart beating hard in her chest, she eventually slumped down on the floor of the deck.
"I'm sorry, Bonnie. Mary was thrown into the abyss during the fight."
no subject
"Let's go! We don't have much time!"
And there's no way she's letting Tsubomi fall into the Abyss. She wants answers just as badly, but she's not going to lose her here in pursuit of them. Whatever insecurities she has about herself, she's been a reliable constant in Levy's life, and a great source of courage for the young mage. If apologies need to be made later, she'll make them, but for now she reaches for her girlfriend's hand and uses Teleportation to whisk the two of them onto the Enterprise.
no subject
"We are NOT killing him. There's no coming back from that," he said sternly to Ales, frowning over his shoulder. "Evacuate now! We'll need your help to find a way to separate them later." He dashed for Ramzki, making a grab at him, but only managing to seize air. The platform was starting to buck beneath his feet, momentarily disrupting his balance, but he was determined. "I'm not leaving without him, Kalki! Let him go!"

"It's Rialynn all over again! They knew this would happen! That's why they were mad that we didn't kill her! It was a goddamned test!" Okay, she was now pissed enough to truly break free from her friend and come to a stumbling stop. They had been made fools of--again.
"Nobody else attack!" she yelled. "Remember what happened earlier!" She started to head towards Ramza, the shaking ground seeming not to affect her, when two balls of fur flew into her.
"Sheena! You're all right!" Corrine cried, burying his head into her shoulder. Mogdelina, on the other hand, was flitting about, looking for her Hero. Reaching up to hug Corrine, the ninja changed direction and pulled her partner's Moogle to her.
"Mogdelina, I'm sorry. Albel went over the side."
Keeping a strong grip on the little one, she turned back to Vincent. "Thank you. You were right. Albel never would have forgiven either of us." Him for not stopping her, and her for disrespecting Albel that way. "Come on, we're leaving. We can't get them back now, but by Martel, we'll do it somehow."
And with that, she headed towards the portal, stopping when she saw Reno asleep on the ground. No way was she losing someone else she cared about. "Corrine, take Mogdelina back. I'll be along shortly."
Leaning over, she grabbed Reno's hands and began pulling, only to stop immediately. Nope. Can't do it alone. Spotting Cloud nearby, she called out to him.
"Cloud! Help me get Reno through there! Someone else grab anyone else who's hurt or asleep!" Hopefully, that will stop any more attacks as well.

The immediate shaking to the platform earned a sharp stop to Sephiroth's progress up further than two steps and he turned to look back. A private breath hitched, eyes widening, as he saw that the edges of the platform were crumbling away; people were going to have to get out...surely they wouldn't think to stay now-
But from already on the stairs -he lurched and almost lost his step while looking due to the trembling of what might well be the entire world- one thing was clear. He might well be able to get back there, with a Dash from his custom job still, to attack or to get others clear of danger...
...it wouldn't help anyone, at all, should it all be brought to an abrupt end here. All those worlds that had been before, all those countless souls...all those that were at risk for the future....
As he turned back to continue up the stairs, effectively turning his back again on the platform entirely, a small pale fluff of a moogle near enough collided with his middle not two steps later. But it was all that Sephiroth could do but to clutch Spencer against him as close as possible and continue to make a hasty, yet staggered retreat up the stairwell. The moogles might think that it might be best with their Heroes down there, but things were literally falling apart all over.
Spencer had dutifully uttered that the Enterprise was waiting; if only he could weather the intense earthquake which had been triggered. Somewhere along the way, another small moogle had hitched a ride somewhere about mid-way down Sephiroth's hair as he determinedly carried on. At least he'd sheathed his sword, in the meantime.

Likewise, Reno would never forgive him if he left someone that important to him behind. Reno was an ally, a friend; and while Johnny was hardly the easiest person to carry, Vincent would manage enough. Careful of his gauntlet's claws, and sure of his grip before getting the other over his shoulders in a fire-brigade style carry. He could manage this at least enough to get them to safety on the Enterprise, Ophelia fluttering behind him and holding her questions for now.
no subject
Apologizing silently to Duster, he went to Akane and scooped her up in his arms. He spared a glance at Lydia to make sure she was getting herself off of the crumbling platform.
With the two girls settled, Santa activated his teleportation skill to get himself and Akane out of there.
