Jaune’s head whips around when Kalki suddenly switches places with Lust. Shit, that was really going to make a fight hard. Not that she was fighting them. He’d think that she was trying to provoke them into accidentally attacking each other, but that didn’t match with her claims. So then she had to be stalling, and he has a feeling that’s just as bad. But she’s still not attacking them, and he can’t bring himself to swing at someone who can’t defend themselves, deluded or not.

She’s clearly not going to listen to them, but he still can’t help but question her. “Are you really equating technologies that prolong life without eliminating everyone and starting fresh? Medical and mechanical advancements aided us without destroying anything! What you’re trying to do isn’t change the world; you’re trying to rewrite it. Who does that help?”

He’s speaking to her, but he hasn’t let his guard down, his deflect limitbreak still at the ready as he scans his surroundings. If she is stalling them, there’s no way of telling what’s going to happen, or from where.

Ramza had given Kalki the chance to speak her mind, but it seemed her argument had drawn to its conclusion. He rose from the dead Garland's side and pointed his sword in Kalki's direction.

"You say 'evolution', but what you aim for is to become a parasite draining life from its host. You would have us, have Crystallis, grow fat on the corpses of other worlds. We will never allow you to become God, not when you barely even understand how to be human!"

As reality flips, her dagger traces a pattern in the air,

"Rycda"

The word softly spoken as Rikku casts Haste on herself. Scanning the heroes, eager to cast on healers to quicken the work for those in need of aid, motions hurried as if film had been cut out of the time stock of life.

"That's not true you know because I made up my own mind and I don't hate you!" The blonde forced herself to stand taller. Kalki did not hear what she was saying, what anyone was saying. At least they'd tried. "You know for someone so smart, you're pretty dense!"

Too many years of combat training had Selphie realizing that they were being toyed with. Kalki was content to treat them like pawns on a chess board as she turned around from Lust and Cloud to stare the avatar down. Selphie wasn't going to be this woman's piece to control. She was her own person. She had acceptex the side of herself that she didn't let show.

Something about this stunk worse than a pile of Behemoth shit. Selphie looked over at Yuri and over her shoulder towards the others with a deep scowl on her face.

"Something seriously stinks here," Selphie muttered, her sword ever ready to strike. She looked up at Kalki and raised her voice so that she could be heard. "You're no different than Ultimecia. This is the exact same kinda stunt she tried to pull on my world. She didn't get away with it and neither will you! We won't let you!"

So. Fighting wasn't going to cut it. Talking was a way to pass the time. Kalki could kill them right here and now, but she was taking her time to gloat like some first-rate outlaw. In this case, said outlaw could deflect bullets, which made it much more troublesome.

Rewriting reality wasn't too bad if done for the proper reason, but from what he had seen of her, it had to be for selfish reason. This wasn't like his own powers to keep things organized for the sake of the universe.

With her just standing there, not making a move, it was difficult to predict her moved. Mordecai hated being unable to read people, and that is why he was uncharacteristically quiet, pulled the back of his robes over the back of his legs, and sat on the ground. His hands folded to cover his mouth while he focused on a Premonition.

"I can't imagine anything more painful than having too much time. ... Well, I mean, I guess I could use that to get more sleep. Are you sure you want to set yourself up for that? Becoming god is a full-time gig." Minato was still speaking with Kalki, but has begun his short walk back to the wounded to heal them up and into a less vulnerable position, as everyone had begun preparing for battle; but his heart remained heavy, and he still didn't want to.

"Even with having experienced reincarnation, that's different from what you aim for. The world will be free of its individuals' natural end, but not from its other problems. You won't be able to shut your eyes or turn away--it's wholly your responsibility." He looked up to the sky.

"I don't know how myths are over here, but when my teacher rambled about Greek mythology... the gods were pretty much immortal jackasses who could kick each other around with all the satisfaction of inflicting pain, but zero permanent consequence, since hey, you're stuck together."

Minato didn't really know what he was getting to here, he's probably gone on a tangent, maybe he should have just settled with calling the plan stupid like others have. "You willing to deal with that many petulant children, Kalki? Forever."

Sonic grunted as Kalki disappeared and reappeared elsewhere. Oh, so it was going to be like that. Pull a Shadow and just Chaos Control around all over the place. Except Shadow never treated everyone like a bunch of children.

"Right now, I'd take listening to Shadow and his moodiness right now." Sonic grumbled. "Honestly, the kid's right. If we all decide to be gods or whatever, what else is there to do? We'd be bored out of our minds because all we'd do is get on each other's nerves! And besides, do you want Deadpool as a god? Really? He'd probably take over the Calamity and remake the multiverse as a gigantic chimichanga!"

"Being a god is not a light decision to make," Saori said as she stood up and let the clone disappear. Attempting to throw Garland's sword again was too risky. Kalki needed to go down fast.

"It takes an inner strength not many are capable of. It's easy to be drunk off the powers you receive as one and use it to indulge in your needs over the balance of the world."

She cast Shushin in case she needed to run or bail another Hero out. "I maybe the Fifth Inari back home and have no power here but I know there's no way in hell you'll be accepted as one. Being a god won't exempt you from the rules, Kalki. You're only delaying the inevitable. Even if immortality is a thing, such an existence will not end well for anyone." While the enemy was clearly in front of them, she had her Eagle Vision because she had a feeling this wasn't going to be a fair fight.

Feeling the rejuvenating wave wash over him, Ace had to stifle a growl of frustration. Of course Tear would continue to waste her energy for his sake, it matched the stubborn attitude he had grown so very familiar with… and yet, it was also sign she was alive and breathing, ever wishing to take the matters into her own hands. That was good enough.

Don't ever do that again. Still earned a warning, though.

As he quietly observed the confrontation, his gaze flicked between the Heroes speaking up and back to the woman who had started it all. Not a stranger, as they had all originally thought, but the very figure that had been guiding their actions from behind the scenes. Seeing her again was... unsettling, in a way he could not properly describe.

“Kalki…” He didn't even realise when he'd joined the others, though his was hardly an invitation to a discussion. More of a declaration, really. “It has taken you years to come to this point. Your mind has been made, and we're only wasting our breaths trying to pretend otherwise.”

“I understand.” He sighed, raising his eyes to look at the woman in question. A world without death… each one of them must have at least tried to envision being able to escape the shackles of time. “And now it occurs to me that the Crystals of Orience most likely held onto a similar idea.”

This time, he was, of course, referring to his own world. “They twisted our perception of the world by taking away the memories of death and suffering. Just so we could no longer be hurt. So we could keep pursuing goals greater than our lives. For a long time, we truly thought it was a blessing.”

The sentiment no longer held true, as evident by the cadet’s grim tone that followed. There was no strength to be found in ignorance, while life in Crystallis had been filled with loss just as much as it taught him about happiness. Those fleeting feelings that had escaped his attention before, all the more precious and comforting in moments of fear.

Yes, he was afraid - if not for his own, it was for the safety of the melodist by his side and the companions he'd made along the way. He had to acknowledge that Kalki could easily take away everything he held dear in order to prove her point. His fingers curled protectively over Tear's shoulder, and he had Vanish at the ready, should any suspicious movements take place.

“What you're proposing goes far beyond that, though. Tempting us with promises of godhood… as though us being here isn't a testament to our desire to protect what we already have. Evolution can't be achieved on the basis of forsaking our very identity.”

“I would like to believe in the righteousness of your plan - but knowing where this path leads…” he paused. “I can't.”

"The living should keep moving on and the dead should remain dead. Disrupting a natural process for such selfish reasons is not acceptable. It seems no matter what you will not back down."

He starts slowly with another step closer to the woman. He's done reasoning, "Guess we'll have to cut you down and see what comes next."

At this point there was no reason for him to repeat what's already been said. He was prepared to fight her and he'd be damned if he didn't start defending the team. Everything happened in a huge blur. Life or death, he always the believed the dead remained dead and the living remain living. There was no point in disrupting a cycle. Such an existence was empty, and cold. If you could never die, or have the fear of dying, you continue to remain unchanging.

At the very least that's what he thought and if he meant he had to cut her down to stop this master plan, so be it.

"Final Gale!"

As he attempted to knock her off balance for maximum damage.

K'pandolu nodded firmly at Saori's words, though something else caught her attention. "The Cloud of- the voidsent? The one Xande made his covenant with? Then…" She fell quiet for a moment, thinking before she shook herself, coming back to the present.

"The Allagans had incredible technologies, but without something to strive for, their society began to stagnate," she explained, glancing at the others. "Xande was… brought back, from the dead, in an attempt to arrest his… But he established that covenant, to see the destruction of all… His efforts saw only the destruction of the Empire at the time, though." She paused, tail twitching. "In any case… Saying it should be a 'god' is too far. Beyond the nature of such things, the struggles we face, and the changes we make as a result of them… they're as mortals, and the world we forge the result of it." She shook her head, and activated Shushin in preparation, watching Kalki.

When Deadpool stood and attempted to push Kalki into the abyss, once again the woman phased out right the second before he could push her in, leaving nothing for Deadpool to push. Unfortunately, trying to push into nothing meant Deadpool threw himself right into the abyss, with the help of Yuri's Final Gale.

Deadpool fades into the abyss! He will no longer able to participate in the battle.

When Kalki re-appeared less than a second later, she shook her head and rose an eyebrow as she stared down into the abyss. "Not the brightest..." She turned back to the Heroes of Light and smiled to them once more. The premonition didn't happen yet, something seemed to block it. "It would seem we are set in our ways. Know that I take no pleasure in what I am about to do, for what little comfort this will bring you."

She rose her black crystal, and an attack washed over the Heroes of Light--

It's Rikku's words that make Jack do a full-on double-take, before he settles on staring at her over Kalki. "You-" Jack's discretion in not mentioning Kalki or not talking with the Heroes about his thoughts in public was mostly for Rikku and Yuna's sake. But, of all the Heroes who had the right to decide whether Kalki lived or died, Jack had said before that it came down to those two, and expected that Rikku would be the first to put a knife in the woman's back.

She's a better person than Jack is.

This leaves Jack completely unprepared for Kalki's attack. He puts a hand to his chest and drops to a knee, weakened suddenly. Focus on Kalki, because she is your opponent. "Another half-measure. You don't want to kill us any more than we want to kill you. But we can't join you, I can't do it."

This could be dangerous, if it manages to get redirected, but Jack hasn't seen anyone dodge this spell before, so he casts Drain. It's another half-measure on his part, too. Literally, because he only casts it the once, in case it goes wrong.

Ruby yelled as she felt her health just leave her. She dropped to one knee, holding herself up with Crescent Rose.

"Why...? Why do this? Why attack us? There's nothing to gain" Ruby said, her silver eyes pleading. She cast Cura on herself twice to try to regain the health Kalki stole.

At the end of all the back-and-forth, the bottom line is that there’s little difference between Van’s plans for Auldrant and Kalki’s plans here on Crystallis. Both want to free their worlds from a cycle of suffering, and neither cares how many are sacrificed as they pursue their ideals. It doesn’t matter that this is the first he’s meeting Kalki, or that others have such strong and personal connections with her. There’s no convincing her to change her mind, and she’ll stop at nothing to make her ideal the reality.

Which means they, as Heroes, can’t just stop her. They have to kill her. Much like Asch had ordered the replica to kill Van, which he believes the replica and his friends must be doing now, if it isn’t already done by now.

Knowing there’s little he can do, Asch moves into position to protect Tear and casts Cure on her for the precious little it’ll do.

"Aaaahhh...!!"

This was it, all the words of changing her mind were behind them, what now lay ahead was a struggle not only for their own lives, but also the lives in other worlds. Too much weighed on them not to fail, they have to force themselves to move, as much as everything ached. Pain was a reminder that they were alive, right? Heart pounding in his chest so hard it felt like it would burst, and a fire in Minato's eyes, he pushed himself up to his feet, and raises his voice.

Minato never previously showed his being a field leader here, so he had no idea if anyone would heed his words, but they had come out on instinct.

"Do something about her line of sight! We can't heal everyone, so use your potions if you have them! Everyone else, fall back!"

After a quick assessment, Minato begins with a Curaga on himself, with the Haste buff, he also manages to perform it on Akane and Ace.

[OOC: Time is tight for me today, so just quickly noting what each of my characters is doing.]

Natalia shot a grateful look at Asch. He was no fool, blindly charging into danger, and she deeply appreciated his dedication to protecting Tear. As one of the few who wasn't hit, Natalia cast Cura on Yuri and Hisui.

Lust was seething. She raised her arms to shield her face as the attacks were directed against her, but she didn't spare even so much as a flicker of a glance for her attackers. Her baleful stare was still fixated solely on Kalki. She began gathering her own darker magic, though was forced to change her tactics after having nearly all of her health slashed. She cast Death on Kalki, not certain the spell would even take hold, but wanting her to die with every fiber of her being. Then she cast Drain. If physical attacks couldn't land, then magic might.

Chrom was brought to one knee, and the room was spinning. Nonetheless, he cast Cura on Lailah and Yuna to keep them safe. He would not allow them to fall under his watch.

Rukia couldn't do much. Her health was almost gone, and Shiva ~~was taking her own sweet time~~ hadn't appeared yet. She had little to do but wait for the Eidolon.

Jaune looks around suddenly as the Heroes around him are affected by the attack. He’s not sure why he wasn’t hit with it, but he’s not complaining. He agrees with Minato; they should fall back, heal up, and then try to come up with a unified strategy. Unfortunately, with the current state of things, retreating might not be an option; besides half the party being down, there’s no way out, so far as he can tell. And if they leave now, there’s a chance they won’t be able to stop Kalki.

He glances around again, takin in his surroundings. There’s a plethora of healing going on, but he’s not sure who can take a hit and who can’t at this point, and he knows the healers are going to need protecting too. He makes his way to the front lines and stands defensively in front of Chrom; he can at least be a line of defense for a physical attack while they regroup. He wants to attack but the phasing might make him hurt an ally instead, so until he can figure out how she does it, there’s nothing he can do but be ready to activate his limit break should the need arise.

((ooc: Limit break: Deflect: Attacks dealt to Jaune are automatically parried with the damage being dealt back to the attacker. Limit one turn.))

He would not allow her the pleasure of hearing him scream in pain, even as he tried to stand despite her spell going off. Defiant to the last.

Mom! Lydia! were the first things that came to mind after the worst of the pain subsided. The red in his vision lessened only slightly, seeing they were still alive - if barely.

"So you think... to break us of our resolve instead." It was a tactic he was all too familiar with - had, once, though the hours or days spent being tortured were a blank hole in his memory now. In which case, not doing what he was about to would likely be a mercy. Alas, his selfishness would win out instead. Raising his sword, he Dualcast Cura on Saori and Lydia.

Chiaki's said her piece, and Kalki remains just as set in her response as ever. There's no way either of them are going to change each others' minds - they're just too different. Now, as Nagito would say, it's time to see whose hope is stronger. And since there's nothing left that can be accomplished with words alone, Chiaki's going to try a different strategy. Activating Shunshin and Stealth simultaneously, she melts into the shadows among the crowd of Heroes and begins slowly and carefully making her way toward Kalki. If this takes a few turns, so be it, but her aim is to get that Black Crystal away from her. It's featured prominently in every attack she's used so far, so Chiaki reasons it must be the source of her overwhelming power.

Saori stabbed into crystal beneath her with Garland's sword to support herself as her health reduced away. She looked up to see who cast that Cura on her and nodded at Ira.

The assassin pulled out three bottles from her pack and makes her way over to Ira. She puts two of them into his hand, an ether and a potion.

"Thanks. Now it's my turn to return the favor," she said with a nod before downing her own bottle. Disabling Kalki's phasing and teleporting was now her main priority if they hope to end her.

She came to same conclusion as Chiaki. Pulling out another Inari's Ofuda and uses it to temporarily raise everyone's luck. In quick succession, she used Smoke Bomb to teleport closer to Kalki and Shake Down to try play keep away with the crystal.

My, how delightful that, as so many of their number had been affected by Kalki's spell, he was not. Not that it mattered any, as his health was dangerously low to begin with.

"Unfortunately, that is the thing of those who see themselves the hero," he called out over the noise of those barking orders of retreat, removing his hat and sweeping in a large bow. "Some simply would rather watch their numbers dwindle than do what is necessary."

And Ardyn? Well, he certainly had enough blood on his hands from the start to not mind one more's lifeblood. In that instant, the sound of crystal shattering could be heard over the din of screams and moans of anguish. Though if anyone looked to see where the sound had come, all they would find was a violet-red silhouette. Ironically tossing a sword at Kalki, he used it to warp himself directly within melee range of the Avatar...

Before summoning a pair of daggers and moving to plunge one directly into her abdomen, followed by another, should the first miss. Were she to switch places with another, it would be child's play to follow her with his own arsenal. And, unlike the others, he would have no qualms were a Hero to die.

"About this plan of yours... Perhaps you'd best have calculated in the factor of their bleeding hearts and mercy."

The impact nearly knocked the air out of his lungs. This was never going to be a fair fight, but such was the power of the Black Crystal in Kalki's possession. As long as she held onto it, there was no way any of them could make even a dent in her defenses.

"Ah...."

Suddenly, he realised he could move again, hit by a familiar force of a healing spell. Minato. It was an unexpected gift, and this time, he wouldn't raise any protests, replying with a telepathic message of gratitude as he pushed himself off the ground. Thank you.

But he could let his focus wander no longer. Realising what some of the Heroes were attempting to do, he quickly decided to aid their efforts with a Telekinesis skill aimed directly at the crystal. If he could so much as pull at it lightly, enough to twist it out of Kalki's grasp and into the thieves' hands, that would already change their situation significantly.

He wasn't getting any vision of the future. Did that mean that if they failed to stop her, all of existence would become a void? That's no good. The other theory was that Kalki was such a powerful psychic that she could manipulate the timestream from being observed from the outside, something that only the Force Galactic or a cosmic being was capable of.

A sting of envy emerges in the Barkeep. How come she got to have god powers while he - who never attempted to rewrite all of reality and surely never would abuse those power - didn't? Cheaters.

Still, Deadpool and Yuri's impulsiveness presented the danger of attacking Kalki while she stood by the edge. In case that she tried anything funny after focusing her attention on harming the Heroes, he aimed two Combustion attacks at her. The first was aimed directly on her; the latter just behind her with the hopes that the force would push any unfortunate Hero back onto the platform. Until it drove him to a knee and so lowered his center of balance from being toppled, the silver-haired man lent forwards a little as well and instantly made to flex the grip he had managed to retain around the handle to Masamune.

Not so dissimilar to how his weapon might look with his Deathblow effect added.

Where his head was down, parallel to his bent knee after the crash to the floor Sephiroth suddenly looked up, pinned Kalki in his sights and then charged forwards to close the gap.

Limit Break: Supernova (Link) was led into by a handful of lead-in strikes that may or may not have gouged also into the platform before the energy had released enough to send his target, and himself, into the air before the Limit might execute to it's fullest.
