Rescuing the Civilians - Zelda

"Link!" Her voice rang over the crowd echoing through the screams and footsteps on the street. Monsters were approaching her position and while she might be able to hold them for a while she could see more coming into view. The Soldiers didn't seem to have interest in the civilians but the monsters weren't as kind.

Zelda turned, her sword in one hand with her staff in the other. She had some training but her sword was worn. She spotted Link's sword knowing it from pages in a book.

"The creatures won't stop coming." They had to keep the way clear until everyone could escape.

"Leave it to me!"

He leans forward, putting what is sure to not be the last kiss he would offer her to her forehead, turning around to see the oncoming horde quickly approaching the retreat which Zelda has orchestrated.

"Do what you can for these people! I'll hold them off and see them fall before they touch another life!"

The sword in his hand gleams for a moment, a radiant flash of light that comes when there is no Sun to cast such a reflection. Boots put to the pavement to see that his advance is met with great speed, charging through the numbers while ensuring their departure is at Zelda's lead. When the monsters finally come within the reach of his blade, the bite of Evil's Bane caresses the flesh of the creatures like a hot knife through butter. It's an elegant display, if war could ever be described as such, the way he eviscerates the invading forces.

For her, for these people, and for those who cannot fight! I won't let you hurt them!!

Zelda felt her cheeks flush at the warm of his lips on her forehead. She wasn't used to showing so much affection in public but she didn't have very long to think about it. She smiled up at Link her eyes filled with the love that threatened to over flow from her heart. "Be safe."

She turned, her golden hair fanning behind her as she seathed her sword at her side. With he staff still in hand she shouting at the crowd trying to get them to pick up their pace as they fled. With each passing family she cast cure trying to make sure that everyone was able to get to safety.

Zelda turned back to watch Link for a moment, amazed by the powerful blade in his grasp. He might not always see himself as the hero but in this moment she knew without any doubt that he was the hero he always sought to be. Her eyes then glanced over the crowd which was slowly thinning with each passing moment. They had one direction covered but she didn't know if the monsters were smart enough to circle around them and try to get to the back of the crowd.

She ran towards the end of the line climbing on top of a few crates to see over head. From their she saw the devastation and a new horde of monsters coming their way.

"There's more.." Zelda looked back at Link as he continued to fight. "I'm going to head them off. When this area is secure move over towards the back."

She knew that there were far to many for her to fight alone but she was going to hold them off so that people could get away. She cast protect on Link before turning and running into the fray.

They dropped like hail from the sky, landing and crashing to the ground as the life left them upon the blade which Link held. When the spell surrounds him, it causes a moment of pause in which the Knight is stunned. A spear comes towards him, ricocheting off as he turns around to watch Zelda charge toward the oncoming horde. A quick slash of his sword turns the jutting weapon to splinters, a downward swipe sees the soldier fall like so many before him.

"Zelda! Wait-!"

It was no use, she was out of sight and now doing her part to protect the innocent. There was no sense in following behind her, not when there was a need for defense in this part of the line. Feet stay light, treading like feathers on the wind so that he's able to move at a pace far greater than the enemies before him. Eyes narrow and keep their watch at the rush of men and women heading towards him, the greeting of steel sending them into a slumber for which they cannot wake from. The flash of light from his sword illuminates among the spread of flames around the crowd, acting more like a beacon of hope to those amongst the few Heroes who attempt to keep the casualties from growing.

"Fight! Push against their offense! Do everything we can to see that no harm comes to the people of this city! In the name of Hylia, Skyloft, and the Knight's Academy, I'll give my life to see another innocent life taken in the name of war!"

Zelda made sure that Link stayed in her sights as she fought. She was able to heal and while she knew that Link's skills were great they were fighting unimaginable numbers. Creatures and monsters drawn to the city by the flames and screams of the civilians.

Her feet dance as she swings her blade in an arc. Her stance shifting with each attack and movement as she fought off the approaching enemies. She only had her blade with her leaving the bow Link had gotten her at home for now. She hadn't had the time to practice with it and she didn't want to get herself hurt. Her eyes glanced once more towards Link watching as the sword in his grasp glowed and moved through the creatures in his wake.

Zelda was relieved to see the Goddess blade in this world and from its shine she could tell that it was powered up to it's full potential. She wondered how they would bring such a relic here and if it really contained the power to fight the darkness within it's blade.

Her mind was clouded away from the calamity of the fight before her and she was quickly out numbered by the creatures. Her defense was perfect but she wasn't able to take them down as fast as they approached her. The creatures circled her now taking turns to lash their large claws at her fragile form. Her gaze was determined but she couldn't fight them all.

The truth was Zelda didn't like fighting. She didn't want to take a life even if it was a soldier threatening to attack her. She understood the need but those soldiers had families too, people who would miss them when they were gone.

The air had gone still, the sort of pause that came with the wake of death and sorrow. It was never his intention to rob those of life, least not another human. There had been no other choice, and if it meant protecting the woman who'd seized his heart and kept it beating, he'd stand before the depths of hate and destruction to see her life spared.

Feet dig into the dirt, setting his guard in place as the sword gifted to him sends a streaming light of hope through the numbers which might have stolen the last of Zelda's breath. They meet his blade, greet him in kind by the strength of their iron and steel, resting on the edge of the Master Sword as he holds it above him to keep their points from coming down upon his head.

"I wasn't.. I wasn't there when you needed me in the forest.. But-"

A push of his arm sends the blades back, his resolve far greater than those that would see the city in ruins. The Chosen Hero bares his fangs, barks at the hate-filled soldiers that try to bring harm to his love, the giant shadow of his will looming over the hordes which march towards them.

"I won't fail you again!" His eyes narrow, brows furrowing as his nose scrunches up from the intense anger that swells within him. "You men of the Empire, you lost this battle before it even began! No one, not even the Queen herself, will touch so much as a hair on the head of the woman I love!"

Zelda watched as Link bounded in front of her attackers. It was true that he was more skilled than she was and after everything that they’ve been through she trusted him with her life. She watched for a moment in awe of her knight, her hero, as he fought with her existence unmistakably in his heart. She was happy even in the middle of battle, even as the world was posed against them because they had each other and each moment created memories that she wanted to cherish.

She glanced around them just in time to see more monsters circling behind them. She raised her blade to protect Link’s back bringing down the sword in a graceful arc. She lightly pressed her shoulder against his back as she spoke. “I am behind you. We won’t fail because we are together.” They could fight together and be there for each other.

It was just like she dreamed of supporting each other in each endeavor; so that they didn’t have to part again. She felt her fatigue fade and she wished that she could speak her mind as easily as he could in the middle of such a fight. Having him in her heart made her stronger. Sweat beaded from her forehead and her breaths became heavy with each slash of her sword.

His back kisses her own for but a moment, before the warmth of her compassion sends him charging once more into the danger of the fray. Every swish of his blade spills another wasted wound of blood, his lips cringing as he knows the value of life. The Empire had ignored it, they'd gone against what made men decent and insisted upon a slaughter. If lives needed to be sacrificed in order to slake the greed of men so drunk on power, then Link would pledge himself a million times over until his spirit was the only thing left of him.

The corner of his eye keeps a close watch on his partner, faith holding on as he knows she's more than capable of handling her side of the fight. Fresh scars sting his cheeks, the slight brush of steel giving his features the warmth of his blood as it trickles down to his chin.
