Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Everything around you freezes, nearly as if time itself stopped, as if the world was frozen in time. And before you have a chance to understand what is happening, you can hear a voice right behind you.
"Kali Shashidhwaja."
Should you turn around, you may see a child who seems to be the only one aside from you unaffected by what is happening. And as she stares right at you, it makes no doubt these strange words are aimed at you. But before you can reply to her, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you know it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, Crystallis vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see.
And once again you feel different: all the powers from your Jobs are fading. Not only that, but you might find that your Crystal is gone and your clothes back to what they were before you woke up in Crystallis. It is silent, cold and before long it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you... And yet, slowly the world reforms around you. The darkness fades away and a new world appears, yet at the same time this is not a world.
This is a memory. The question is, is it yours or that of someone else?

She doesn't get there before the woman, and no one seems to notice her shouts. The woman is already dying when she gets past the soldiers, and that's when she notices there is someone in the shadows.
Her first reaction is to shrug off Yuffie being there, but from her state, and her words, she realizes the girl is Yuffie. She pieces together what the look in Sephiroth's eyes had been when she mentioned that Yuffie had been acting like she needed mothered in the facility.
"She knew exactly what she was doing," she says to Yuffie as she approaches.

She didn't have the energy to deal with Olivier. She couldn't smile anymore and she couldn't shrug off the woman's comments. Everything hurt and it was hard enough for Yuffie to make sense of the situation. She hadn't even remembered this. Her mother died on an illness when she was five. That's what her father had told her. It was just at the end of the war but that had been a lie.
"I can't... I can't fight with you right now." With all her defenses broken apart Yuffie was fragile. She knew that and she remembered what Olivier had told her after she woke in the empire. She had failed them because she wasn't strong enough, because she was just a stupid kid.

"You do realize that the only reason you are here is because she protected you, right? She wouldn't have done that if she didn't think protecting you was worth losing her life. You are not responsible for her actions. She seems like a proud woman who would have died defending this place if it came down to that. Which it seems like it would have."

Yuffie shook her head slowly back and forth. "My mother was a far better person than I am. What did she really risk her life for?" Her voice was soft, weak, she was asking Olivier knowing that the woman would answer her in earnest. Yuffie was a princess but she couldn't protect those around her. Isn't that what a princess was suppose to do?

She pauses, gathering the words that are going to come next.
"I'm not a mother, nor am I the mothering type, but I have heard that nothing surpasses the love a mother can feel for her children. Obviously she would rather face her own death than have to face yours. It might be selfish, but I think to her, living while you died would have been the more selfish choice. I do know that there are subordinates of mine that I would die to protect."
"So don't give up. You must keep going to honor the sacrifice she made," she says, gesturing to the place where Yuffie's mom has just pulled her child close again.

She felt the tension in her shoulders release slightly as she inhales a breath of air. "I guess being selfish runs in my family." Her palm was pressed against her cheek when she looked up at Olivier.
"I was never very good at giving up. I don't know... when that started." She did know when it started. It was that day that the Empire took Luffy in her place. "How can I protect everyone? A country?" How can she be the princess that her mother wanted her to be.

"Olivier? Do you trust me?"
She knew what the answer was but she wanted to hear it. Olivier got off on the wrong foot and Yuffie was fine with not getting along with someone. She was used to it but she still felt the need to ask.

"I would take a bullet for you. If that's what you want to know. Maybe I get it from mom. I don't think that anyone should die and I'm pretty good at healing."
Yuffie slowly stood smiling. "I think it's okay. If we don't understand each other." Her words faded and in seconds the dream faded to black and Yuffie was gone as Olivier was tossed to another dream.
