EVERYWHERE

[It isn’t hard to spot the bright glint of orange hair among the crowd or the moogle floating by her side. Umiko has a wide range of tools and reading equipment with her while Rudder has other implements strapped around his fuzzy body. For a cartographer this place is a dream come true. She knows she’ll have to return to Aqures but she wishes that she and Rudder could just move across the sea to this town. It isn’t perfect, no place is, but it’s an adventure.]

Rudder! Look.

[Umiko points her finger out at one of the shops with a wide grin. There is no communication, that she knows of, between here and the other continent and yet some things are very similar to what she knows. Rudder just stares as if knowing Umiko’s thoughts and not needing to add his own.]

MOGSHOP UNION

[This is what Rudder has been most curious about. He’s left Umiko to finish gathering data on the city and headed towards the Mogshop alone. He’s floating carefully and silently among the crowd however he sticks out considering every other moogle is walking along the ground.

His wings flutter slowly as he stops in and listens to the rumors floating around, as well as the talks of strikes, there is a soft laugh from the moogles lips.

Somethings never change.]

ADVENTURERS END

[Towards the end of the day Umiko is sitting at a table with her tools and notes spread out over the surface. She’s made no secret that she’s drawing a map of this city and she was even able to find a few maps drawn by the local populace; including a weather map which she’s going to keep for her own records.

This seems like a perfect place to work with people from all over coming and going as they see fit.

There is a beer next to her, the condensation from the glass drips down the cooled edge while Rudder has his nose firmly placed in a book he found at the Mogshop. Small tendrils of orange hair fall in front of her sight and Umiko swiftly pushes them back behind her ear while her other hand pulls her pencil across the parchment.

She looks like she’s focused at work but she wouldn’t say no to visitors or a break.]

[Looking around the area, Shining noticed Umeko there. Hmm, that's one of their comrades. He should probably say hello.

Waving at her, he trotted up with Dice in tow who was toting a beer and pretzel as big as he was.] Hey, can I sit here with you?

Mm?

[Umiko peeks up from her work before shifting some of the paper and maps around. After there is enough of the table cleared she gestures with a passive glance. Rudder looks up at the addition to their table but says nothing as he looks back towards his book.]

Sure.

[She places her pen down and then stretches her arms over head. She knows the hero, he's one of two horses in this world so it's hard not to know of him. Umiko takes her beer and takes a long swig before saying more.]

Do you need anything or just company?

I've been on my hooves for a while, and I was wondering what you were doing over here. I noticed you around town after all, and on the Enterprise as well.

[Dice sipped his drink.] He's been pretty good at meeting new faces.

[Umiko raises an eyebrow at Dice wondering if the moogle knows that she's from Crystallis and not a hero of light like the others.]

That right?

[She pauses while shifting over some papers.]

I'm making a map of the city.

New to me, yeah. [Said Shining.] Though a lot of people are new to me.

[Dice merely smiled behind his beer.]

Oh a map? Can I see?

Here.

[Umiko taps lightly.]

Don't mess it up though, I write these all by hand.

[She doesn't want to have to do it again.]

[He'll be careful and Dice floats well away from the map so not to spill his drink.

Peering over them, he nodded.] They're incredibly detailed. You do this for a living then?

[Umiko is glad that they are keeping a distance from her work and in return she clears a slightly bigger space for them to use. She's just going over data now and her maps can be safely tucked away until she needs to edit or add more to them.]

Yes. I'm a navigator and cartographer.

[A slight smile graces her lips.]

I plan to map this whole content.

[As worn out as Ven is by the time he reaches this part of the city, that doesn't dim his enthusiasm in the slightest, especially when he spots any familiar faces. This time he spots Umiko's, and he's quick to adjust his path so that he makes a beeline towards her table. The slight sag in his posture says he's tired, but his smile's still bright.]

Umiko! Hey!

[Umiko glances up and returns his smile with the slight upward turn of her lips. Her eyes shine in the dim lightly as if seeing Ven might have just given her another idea.]

Hey, Ven. What have you been up too?

[She might have a favor to ask of him since they will be here for a few days.]

I've been looking around all day! Spent a lot of time in the gaming district.

[He looks down at where her work has piled up on the table.]

Are you working?

[She taps her pen against the paper and nods.]

That's right. I'm collecting data to make a map of this city. We have a few days before the Enterprise returns home. Think you could do me a favor?

[Instead of spending all his time in the gaming area.]

[Ven brightens again at that. He's always eager to help! He should have plenty of time to explore for himself some more, anyway.]

Sure! What do you need?

[Umiko pulls out a nifty looking device. Above the base is a roundish frame with letters and numbers marking the side. From its center hangs a weighted string that slowly swings from side to side.]

I need you to go to these points...

[She begins scribbling down a list of numbers.]

...in the city and record what this device reads.

[Curious, Ven leans over to get a closer look at the thing.]

Huh... So I just take it there and it does the rest?

[Umiko places it on the table and then points to the string.]

You just write down where this number lines up.

[So it seems that Ace did contact with her. Good to see his words being heeded for once. Of course, Sephiroth has no idea the extent to which Umiko/Rudder replied to Ace's letter the other day.

It's a perfect opportunity though, to see the expert at work. Though he's not sure that beer and map-making really go together all that well, Sephiroth is non-judgmental as he meanders over towards the orange head that really couldn't ever get lost in a room. He's dressed down a little; still in his military uniform for the most part but sans the official looking jacket and with arms to his off-white shirt rolled up. The top button to his collar undone also but it is a tad warmer inside the tavern than it is outside so who's to blame him.

He'll wait until Umiko isn't etching something important-looking onto the parchment before making a comment.]

I hope you aren't looking to attempt to finish all of that during this one stop over.

[She smiles slightly looking up at Sephiroth.]

I hope you aren't expecting to make every girl in this bar swoon at the sight of you.

[She teases lightly before looking back at her work. Her beer is currently untouched but she'll drink it when she has time. Her pin quickly moves over the parchment easily before stopping and pushing the paper to the side where she scribbles a few notes. She then takes another break looking up at Sephiroth. It appears as if she's writing things as they come to mind.]

You're welcome to sit. I can move things around.

[She doesn't mind company and Rudders nose is currently stuck in a book.]

[A light tease could be allowed, especially as he remembers Umiko encouraging him at the nightmare that had been the date auction. Sephiroth chuckles dryly and raises a wide tumbler of a glass that has until now not been visible on account of the way he held it down at his side away from her. A small whisper of a sip is taken before looking back down over what he can see of her work so far.

Ever well-mannered though he doesn't take the invitation until it's offered and even then he carefully strides around the table so as not to knock it even by the chance of an accident.]

So long as I'm not in the way.

[Sephiroth sinks fluidly onto one of the stools around the table some from Umiko and as a result can't resist the slight hair-flip to make sure it's all well out of the way. He'd given up on having his hair tied up a little earlier in their stay.]

So how are you finding it?

[Umiko carefully moves some of her papers to give Sephiroth room at the table. She'd rather his glass be no where near her work even if it is only primarily data. The pages of parchment containing sketches, notes and date were carefully piled and place to Umiko's left.]

It - meaning the city?

[She glances up with a slight smile before she finished organizing everything.]

It's very unlike any place I've been too.

[Umiko wishes that she could just stay here though she knows that she'll have to go where the heroes are to help out per-Cid's request. She already has enough data to map out this city and she's found some information here.]

I can't wait to see it all... [She likely taps her pen on the paper in front of her.] Map it all...

Hm.

[It's a good job his glass is staying in his hand then, it's much safer than even taking the smallest chance that it might get knocked over. Still, Sephiroth watches her organize the papers rather casually...not letting the fact that she thinks he might spill his drink get to him too much. More than any of the other Heroes, they are more strangers to Umiko.]

I'd hazard a guess that it's unlike anywhere else on Crystallis, period. I mean, Flence has it's tranquility but Mysidia really takes that to a whole new level. It's just...peaceful here.

[Sephiroth can't help but have his gaze drawn by the tapping of the pen but soon blinks himself out of it and looks back into Umiko's face.]

I'm sure there will be other excursions to broaden our horizons just so.

[Umiko shakes her head when he mentions Flence.]

It’s true that Flence is peaceful but it always feels so forced. They pretend that nothing else is going on and live a life of peaceful lies. I can’t really do that and it always felt weird when I’d stop in there. Besides that the fact that I can’t afford anything there. [It just annoys her.]

[Umiko looks over at Sephiroth curiously for a moment.]

Are you going to plan voyages back here?

[She needs more people and Sephiroth is someone she can more or less trust. As far as her papers and maps are concerned she trusts no one, not even herself when it comes to accidently tipping a glass.]

[Flence just happens to be a special place for Sephiroth for exactly those 'lies' that Umiko mentions, he abruptly stops the hiss of disapproval before it might seem too impolite though, instead seeming to adjust his seat on the stool. It's bitter, the truth.

Just as well the slight drop to his eyebrows is gone by the time she looks more curiously over him. He blinks a little at her question though...like he has that kind of authority over such things?]

I'm sure there will be return voyages. I doubt I'll be personally planning them though.

[He flashes a smile though, acknowledging how Umiko seems to think he might be trusted to do so competently.]

[The other heroes seem to react well to Sephiroth and listen to what he has to say but then she hasn't been around for very long. She sees a few heroes doing things to help but as far as she knows it's just a group of people running around like a chocobo with it's head cut off. It's hardly an organized force.

Umiko hums softly before bringing her own drink to her lips. She takes a long gulp of the cool beer before placing it down with a smile.]

Even the beer here is fantastic. You should try it.

[Not that she's trying to get him drunk.]
