Mysidia

[Chiaki's finished working on her giant robot, and feeling a little better about Hajime, so she's back to doing what she does best - playing a lot of video games. When the airships start their circuit between the cities, she's one of the first people on the ship to Mysidia, and spends the first few days of the festival bouncing from arcade to arcade, playing as many games as she can manage before returning to Aqures Ixen. She'd love some company, though, if there are any fellow game lovers about.]

Triple Triad Tournament

[The reason she has to rush back, unsurprisingly, is for more gaming. Her first match was conveniently timed for a few days in, affording her the time she needed for her earlier trip. And she wouldn't miss this tournament for the world, considering she had to share second place at the last one after being matched up with Yugi. There's a particular fire in her eyes as she competes, even if her expression is its usual somewhat blank one.]

Heran Stand

Wow, this stuff is pretty advanced...

[In her spare time, Chiaki peruses the marvelous mechanical wonders at the Heran stand - most especially the Magitek stuff.]

Self-attacking weapons, huh? This is pretty close to computer AI. I wonder if it would be possible to install something like this in the Usami Z...

The tournament a few months ago has made a regular player out of Kaji. At the very least, he feels the need to test that title of champion that he's got. Beginner players, even some higher level ones, he can beat. But he knows better.

Kaji stubs out his cigarette when his next opponent appears. The one he'd been hoping to see here. "Chiaki Nanami. The person who should have won that tournament."

Mr. Kaji. Congratulations.

[Chiaki nods back at him with a smile, shuffling her deck.]

Kaji nods as he shuffles his own deck. "Thank you. You and I both know I ended up winning because of bracketing. Which happens in a tournament sometimes."

"But I'm not going to make this easy on you." He puts his deck down solidly, leaves his hand on top. There is an excited challenge in Kaji's eyes. Does he really think he's gotten good enough to beat The Ultimate Gamer?

No one wins every time, even among the best players. It would be boring if the same person always won.

[Chiaki seems quietly excited at the prospect of a motivated opponent.]

Good. That would be boring too.

Kaji has two things going against him in this match. First is that his deck is just not as powerful as Chiaki's. He's been winning matches, sure, but it's all against other people who don't have the top cards.

But Kaji has been trying to make up for the difference by playing the opponent, figuring out their strategy and toying with their personality. Getting a hyper-aggressive opponent to overextend themselves. Putting a timid opponent on the defensive quickly. Which leads into his second problem, because Chiaki is giving him noting to work with. His opening moves try to box in a trap in the corner.

[Chiaki's come up against all of those sorts of strategies before, and she's able to adjust her play style on the fly. Her own opening moves are neither aggressive nor conservative, trying to draw out a decisive pattern from Kaji.]

She won't passively fall into a trap, she's too smart, and her cards are too powerful. Frustrating, but Kaji keeps his cool. Kaji finally takes a risk for a directly aggressive action, using one of his strongest cards. It's not smelling weakness, but an attempt to prompt a reaction out of her, just to see what she'll do.

[Chiaki sets a card of equal strength next to it. Not enough to flip it for herself, but enough to neutralize one of its best numbers by taking up the adjacent space.]

( look out chiaki, because here comes a flurry of cotton candy, wait no, that's just meredy bounding towards her friend, arms open wide to encase the other girl in a big hug, unless she's stopped. )

[There's nobody around to stop her, so Chiaki is most decisively hugged. Thankfully she's between games, so she smiles and hugs back after a moment.]

Hey, Meredy.

( quickie makes his appearance too, weaving through the girls' feet as meredy loosens her grip on the other girl, but moves to grasp her hand instead. )

Did you see? There are so may games! Look, look! ( she doesn't seem to show any sings of her energy crashing any time soon, sorry friend. ) Whack-a-moomba!

[That's okay. Chiaki likes Meredy's energy. She could never match it, but it's always fun to hang out with her. That smile is infectious.]

Do you want to play one together?

You bet! ( she's already half-way to the attraction anyway, moving to drag chiaki if the other girl needs a boost in speed to get there.

reaching for a mallet, she thrusts it towards the other girl. ) Chiaki can probably beat the high score, no problem! Isn't that right?

[Chiaki smiles, taking the mallet and readying it.]

It's all about pattern recognition. There's an element of randomness involved, but there are only so many combinations in the order and timing of when they pop up.

[In other words, yes.]

( as the game clicks to life, meredy is the cheerleader that maybe chiaki never wanted. you'd think she was the one being plugged in and fed with life from the way she jumped and hooted, possibly making a spectacle of herself.

but she didn't seem to care, only growing more excited as the score climbed. ) Go, go! Ah, look at that one! Eee! Chiaki is the best! Hweel!

[Chiaki is a sight to behold, wielding that hammer with speed and accuracy. Physical challenges aren't really her forte, so she misses a few, but she is indeed racking up a rather high score.]

Usami Z, huh?

[Hibiki offers a friendly wave as she walks over! She's just browsing, lurking around.]

What's that?

Oh. Hey, Hibiki.

[Chiaki waves back, smiling.]

Usami Z is the name of my giant robot.

Ah, I see, I see! That makes sense!

W-wait, where the heck did ya get a giant robot?!?!

It's made from a combination of the Magitek Knight's armor and the Engineer's puppet, and I modified it myself. I'm going to use it to kill an optional boss next month.

Oh...um...can you try explainin' that again, Chiaki? I feel like this is already gettin' heavy.

[She just wanted to say hi to her friend, sob.]

You know those shows on TV with hot-blooded pilots who fly around in giant robots fighting evil empires in space? It's one of those.

Oh. You should've led with that! I was in one of those movies, y'know. I was the human girl with the power of friendship with robotic animals!
