There was a moment where his eyes caught the way the wrist moved, and then he was tilting his head to look back at her. He was very used to seeing that kind of look; it was also worn by Gaara, to make it even more of a common sight. It... was gradually becoming similar to how Luke's face looked. Very, very gradually... but only because of how many times he'd had to take another person's life, up to the current point.

Noting the worry, his own expression softened just for a moment. As did his smile, "It's nice to meet you, too, James. I'm fine... Still a little shaken up, but... I should have been paying closer attention. Guess I should take a break, so that doesn't happen again..."

A sheepish expression ghosted over his face, and then he was glancing around - first, to make sure no other enemies were around... Secondly, it was for a place to sit. Once he found it, he walked over. Fortunately, it didn't appear any enemies were around.

Kidd nodded, "Don't push yourself. If you need a breather I'll keep guard." Kidd followed Luke to where he decided to rest up and kept a wary gaze up and down the street. They should be fine for now but she wasn't about to let her guard down either. At least she didn't see anyone yet who might have been able to match her for sneak attacks. To be honest she wasn't looking forward to seeing what sort of ninjas or assassins the Empire employed.

"What were you doing out here on your own?" She gathered he was out here to try to help the people of this city, but the fact that he was fighting by himself was the greater concern. However the question as she asks it is devoid of any scolding he might have gotten from Tear or the others, but rather a question asking after his wellbeing.

Well, that was certainly a nice offer. Luke gave an appreciative smile and nod, before he moved over to the spot to rest. Even while resting, however, he wasn't letting his own guard down. He didn't need to make the same mistake twice, after all; sure he'd been rescued before, but... there were no guarantees.

That question had him offering a sheepish look, before he was releasing a soft sigh.

"Well, I wasn't by myself, originally. I just left to check out a new area, while they took care of the area we were in. I'm supposed to be meeting someone, later, too. It was... pretty stupid of me to stay by myself, being as tired as I am," he started, before his tone became firmer with the next words, "But... there isn't time to rest right now."

"Stupid isn't the word I'd use. Reckless perhaps. Then again I'm used to working on my own. Still, you need to know your limits. When you're tired you make mistakes and become the biggest danger to yourself." She looked up and down the street once more, "I'd say we have a few moments for a breather. You need to take these chances when you can."

She understood his worry though. There were so many people in danger and the desire to want to save them all was admirable. The sad truth was that it wasn't possible. She never wanted to consider any innocent "expendable", but one's own life took precedent in a mass crisis like this.

"Where did the others you were with head off to?"

Those words had said sheepish look increasing; scratching at the side of his head, he couldn't even argue. It was true, after all. So, he could only look down and give an acknowledging nod, at first.

"You're right... Trust me, it won't happen, again. I guess I just... forgot. Maybe it's partially thanks to the world I arrived on, after vanishing from Auldrant. It had been... pretty much every person for themselves, there. Whenever you lingered somewhere too long, you...endangered your life, even more. So it was either push yourself to your limit and possibly... die, or... up your chances of being killed."

Why he just said that, he wasn't entirely sure. Either way, his expression was darkening just a bit, before he looked away. He decided to just move on to that question, before too many questions could be asked, "They headed in that direction, but I'm supposed to be meeting Gaara in an area over there."

He was pointing to his right.

Kidd glanced off down one of the streets. The sounds of fighting were picking up again. It would be smart to get moving before they were caught up in a new skirmish. Fortunately it wasn't the same direction Luke was pointing in. She straightened up, ready to run, and checked to make sure her weapons were all in order.

"I was headed in that direction myself. I'll go with you and watch your back. As for that other world, I'm sorry to hear it was like that. I guess this is a lot like that now too. The thing is here we're fighting to protect the peace this city has. Hopefully we'll all be able to rest easy soon enough."

She smiled and offered him a hand to help him to his feet, "If anything is worth fighting for, it's the ability to live free. How you fight is your choice too. Just so long as you don't lay down and give up. That's how I see it anyway."

He heard it, too. Luke was already checking his own weapons and supplies, as well as ensuring the flute was where he could easily access it. In case he needed to call for Ion, in the event he needed to send a message, of course. There was always a chance he could lose that thing in the middle of a fight.

Those words had his expression brightening faintly. After a nod, he was responding, "Alright, thanks."

After a very short pause, he reached to accept the help. It was once he was to his feet, he responded properly to everything that had just been said, "I never plan to give up. I have...too many things to fight for, even if they aren't on this world. Not to mention, too many people would be disappointed in me. I believe that's something we were all given, from the day we were born -- the ability to make our own decisions and carve our own paths in life. I don't plan on wasting that birth right!"

Grinning just a bit, he shifted his stance and rested his hand on the hilt of his blade. He appeared... to maybe have pepped up quite a bit, thanks to their talk, "Alright... let's go."
