"I haven't. This isn't like the air ships I'm used too." To be honest the air ships that she was used to involved a lot of winging it. Not one really knew how they worked, at least not fully. Her eyes glanced around at the ship hands who were walking purposely around the deck.

"It looked like they might have a plan."

"We still need to make sure the ship's flyable, and there needs to be more hands on the lower decks to make repairs to the mainframe and engine." Ales paced in front of Yuna and he spoke. "With this many enemies, we can't let overlook anything."

At once he headed towards the pilot's cabin. "Come on, no time to waste!"
whereishe: (I got this)

Yuna staggered a moment before falling step behind Ales. She only knew a little bit about air ships but she could at least be an extra pair of hands if it was needed. Her steps were a little shaky and she tried not to look at the ground that she felt was getting a little too close for comfort.

"Got it!"

Yuna never put much thought into the person who was piloting the ship but she was sure that they would have someone who was used to war at the helm. After all this was a ship they had brought just for the heroes to get to Esdham.

Ales quickly made his way to the pilot room, which was easy to find as this section of the airship was not that different from the commercial ones he flew.

"Sir!" He pounded on the door. "Is everything alright? Have we got a code 97?" It turned out that those emergency protocol chapters he read to get his license came in handy after all.

There was a series of loud thumps from inside, and a Tarutaru opened the door, wearing a military uniform. There were other airship assistants inside, scrambling around the room while a Hypello stood at the wheel. "No, everything is under control in here," she answered. "But we're quickly losing altitude, and the propeller room's been hit pretty hard." She was obviously trying to look calm while the airship was under attack from all sides and about to fall in a fiery blaze.

"Permission to help with repairs down there?" His tools would come in handy.

"Are you an airship mechanic?"

"Pilot, officially. But I've built machines like this before, and propulsion mechanisms are not that specialized."

"Take these." She pulled out a set of keys from a nearby cabinet. "They unlock the tool closet that have just the things you might need. I'll order any hands that can help down there." And she ran back to her station.

"I don't know anything about a ships engines.. Are you sure I can help?" Though if it was helping or crashing in a fire ball she would do everything she can to help. She looked down at Ales hoping that he had another idea since he all but volunteered himself to help.

"I suppose you know the way?"

"Airships all have the same general design. Besides," he pointed at a sign he was running by, "regulations state that they display the directions to key rooms."

The sounds of fire were duller in the metallic underbelly of the ship, but returned to their original volume once Ales opened the door to the propeller room.

"Alright, everyone, listen to me!" He jumped onto a nearby stool. "I'm Ales Mansay, Airship Pilot and I'll be heading the repairs! What's the situation?"

Several of the workers shot each other confused looks, mostly because they'd never seen a Teensie before. The more quick-witted of them realized that he must be one of the Heroes of Light on board, and immediately ran up to him.

"Heavy damage sustained on the secondary shaft, Mr. Mansay."

"One of the power boxes are overheating."

"I'll get to the shaft right away. Hand me the necessary tools." Ales spoke with careful diction with just the right amount of arm flailing to get his jacket sleeves to whip around dramatically.

"Yuna." He turned to her once the workers left. "Can you get to that power box? You might have a spell that can cool it down, right?"

Yuna was impressed and she could see why he would have been chosen as a hero. She gave Ales a quick nod before running towards the power box. Even with her abilities being different here she was agile and quick. She was able to jump high into the air moving around the engines as she reaches the box.

Her boots land lightly on the platform her hand already summoning ice to her palm. She didn't want to over do it so she slowly began to encase the box in a thin sheet of ice that was quickly melted away. She repeated the process twice before calling over to Ales.

"I got it but it's just going to heat up again if nothing gets repaired."

While Yuna headed her way, Ales ran over to the propeller to inspect it. A lot of the metal was bent, but if he had a powerful enough hammer, he might be able to use his Job powers to get it together.

"I'm on that!" He yelled back, a little annoyed. Once a worker handed him the largest hammer available, Ales climbed into the machine and went to straightening the shaft and supporting pieces: out-of-shape pieces were the most destructive causes of failure.

He hit a pipe, the crystal amplifying his power and setting it somewhat close to its original shape. After that, he started working on the other pipes, taking a break after each one to find a piece that needed fixing immediately.

"Are we falling slower?"

From in here Yuna couldn't tell. She jumped back across the way easily dodging the frantic workers to get a look outside of the engine room. It took her a moment but she moved quickly.

"A little." She shouted back at Ales. "At the very least we won't hit the city. It looks like steering has control again."

She stepped back into the engine room staying out of the way while listening to the directions of the frustrated hero.

Ales took one last look at the propeller mechanism, checking if he overlooked anything. He was pretty sure that his work in this section of the ship was done, but there was a lot more damage to the whole thing that he could also work on. Besides, there was a specific room he wanted to check out...

"Hey!" He jumped out of the machine and turned to the workers. "I'm going to investigate the engine room. Do I have permission to enter?"

The mechanic shrugged and turned to his supervisor. "Sure. It'd be a good idea."

"Just don't dismantle anything," the Tarutaru supervisor sternly warned. "Other than that, please check for any damage done there."
whereishe: (What did you say?)

[personal profile] whereishe 2015-01-27 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
"The engine? Could that have been damaged by the hit?" Yuna fell in step behind Ales making sure to stay out of the little mechanics way. She was grateful for the chance to help and even more grateful that he accepted her help despite her obvious confusion on some of the matters of technology.

She did know that engines were the heart of a machine and it could very well be the reason that they were currently still plummeting towards the ground. She was a little nervous but she tried not to let her uneasiness show.

Ales darted towards the door and into the hallway, not even looking back. "I don't know, but better safe than sorry." He felt his robes to check for his tools and notebook. They said not to dismantle anything, and he didn't want to get in trouble like this, but there always was the chance it actually was damaged. For now, the notebook was more important.

A minute later, as the steadier flying made it easer to run down halls. They reached a set of metal doors with the sign "Engine Room: Authorized Personnel Only." Ales open the door with ease and ran inside.

Most of the machinery was intact, with some damage to the walls, but the Teensie immediately went to the large chamber in the center of the room and peered into it.

Yuna ducked into the room and took a moment to look around at the strange machines. They seemed to be working fine though she only knew basics about such things. Most of the lights were green which she could only assume was a good sign. She was used to the large pistons of the Gullwing and this wasn't built like that.

She stepped up behind Ales far enough to be out of his way but still within reach if she was needed.

"How's it look in there? Everything seems fine here."

"It seems alright..." Ales muttered as he wrote something furiously in his notebook.

The machine he was investigating was making loud noises as it used up whatever fuel was in there. Peeking through the grates, Yuna could make out pistons grinding up some sort of substance.

"I'll be here a little longer, but I'll be fine. You can check on the deck and wan me if we're about to crash."

"Got it." Yuna turned to go back towards the deck not wasting a moment to glance back at her fellow hero.

She wanted to help in some way and even though it was just looking over the side of the air ship it was something she could do to help out.

Until the airship lands, or Yuna gives him a warning, Ales will remain in the engine room, inspecting it and jotting down notes.
