[Besides some personal training, this is the first time Johnny has gotten to fight using his new job class skills. It was a strange feeling, with all the training he had gotten in Exsilium just... gone. Or more like inaccessible, replaced with something else. He'd rather his old skills back, but swinging a sword and slinging spells was kind of fun.

Well, it's fun when there's not an actual war going on and civilians under threat.

Seeing Hibiki extinguishing fires, Johnny lends a hand by watching her back, keeping the enemy troops at bay. He finally managed to fight off enough to catch his breath for a moment.]

Say what now?

Nankurunaisa!

[She has no time to do anything other than put out fires, to subdue soldiers before they get too close to her.

But she's willing to make an exception here.]

It means "everything'll be okay in the end!" It means that things are going the right way. It's from my home...

[And the wind whistles as Hibiki fires an arrow. Like all of her other arrows, this one pierces the armor of the soldier. She's glad she can't see the blood, that she's further away, but that should stop him.]

...in Okinawa!

Okinawa, huh? Yer probably more optimistic than New Yorkers. But if anythin', we're confident.

[Since Hibiki was so kind to wound one soldier, Johnny hits the same one with a Drain spell from his Dark Knight arsenal. It's enough to knock the guy off his feet, and now Johnny's looking a bit healthier than he was a moment ago. Sure, that spells was a little on the creepy side, but he really couldn't worry about that now.]

You can go back to the fires, I can watch yer back.

[She stops, mid-arrow.]

Wait, wait! You're from New York? That's really impre...ah, ah, now's not the time to be talking about that!

[She fires another arrow, aiming for the guard that's furthest from them. It's like she's an entirely different person. She can see things so far away, it's incredible.

At the same time, Inumi runs forward and stops at Johnny's side, crouching low as she charges up a Protect spell and uses it on him.]

I'm gonna turn back to the fires, but let me know if you need healing! Kathy and Inumi are both support mages! ...I-I think that's what you call 'em, right?

[charming_jerk]

You got it.

[Johnny gets back into a fighting stance to handle the next assault when something dawns on him. He looks down at Inumi and blinks.]

...Your dog can cast spells?

Yep! Hehe, that's the power of the Beastmaster job! I never thought there'd be somethin' so useful here!

[And stepping away from Johnny (but still within yelling distance), Hibiki starts turning her attention on mages that are in the distance. Sometimes, she misses. She can't hit all the time, especially when she's not using her Aim ability.]

Since you're kind of tough-looking, are you good at fighting?

[Johnny is still getting used to casting spells himself, but if a dog can do it, then he can do it. You're an inspiration, Inumi. Pairing Drain with Soul Eater is a good way to go, and he lets loose the Dark spell on the mages Hibiki was working on.]

I'd like to think so. Still gettin' used to this whole Job thing. I used to be a lot stronger before I got here. This place has kind of an ass-backards way of doin' stuff.

Ehehe...that's the complete opposite of me! I wouldn't be able to fight without my Jobs, but that's still backwards, huh?

[Now that Johnny is here, she can focus on stepping back and eying the situation more carefully. Thankfully, he's not as brutal as Yuffie, and Hibiki is confident enough with her ability to disable their hands or keep them from standing back up without hurting them too badly.

It's working well. So far.]

I guess an imp would have to be pretty strong, huh?

I wouldn't know. Demons, on the other hand...

[Seriously, kiddo. Not an imp.]

I also didn't have magic. Not like this. This is handy, but I still like hand to hand. But I'm smart enough at least to know when that ain't enough.

[Like when up against mages with fire spells and warriors with swords. The latter of which he clashes weapons with as they get too close again. Crystallis may have sapped him of that crazy strength, but he still had that inborn stamina, which was the better thing to have right now anyway.]

R-right! Demon! Sorry, sorry, that's what I was tryin' to say!

[It's a little confusing sometimes!]

...so...you were a fighter of some kind back home, too, huh? I guess that makes sense...demons are really strong. I'm countin' on you here, okay? This is kinda...my first battle, I guess you could say?

[Here's some nervous laughter as she steps back, eying the numerous opponents. She yells a command behind her and one of their opponents cries out as he's pushed up in a torrent of water and is slammed back into the ground.

That's her hamster's doing, now that he's come back over to rejoin the fight.]

Sorta. Not home, but the last place I was in. Here 'n there got more in common that I like.

[Like him being forced into being a soldier all over again. He said he wasn't going to fight, but when there's innocent lives on the line, Johnny can't help himself. He can be a royal jerk sometimes, but he can't stand to see innocent people suffering like this.]

You're doin' okay. Just stay back where ya are and I'll make sure they don't get close.

W-wow...so New York is really chaotic, huh, if it reminds you of this! I've never been to America, but it must be really violent...

[She's getting the wrong idea.

She's getting such a wrong idea that is it really worth it to correct her? She's focusing on the enemies, aiming, trying to keep everything in check, and...]

They're coming! There's four of 'em!
