She gave him a silent nod composing her features into her usual static expression. He had been so kind to her and had been one of the few people who's made her laugh since waking up in this world.

Terra wanted to ask him why. Why would be put himself in the way of an attack that was aimed at her.

"I'm alright. I was worried about you.. I can't heal." She moved her delicate fingers to were he was hit looking at the severity of the wound. "I'm sorry."

“Good.”

As long as she's okay, it was worth it. For Bartz, protecting a friend isn't something that requires thought or decision. It's just what a person does. He's equally sure she would do the same for him. Realizing that just laughing it off isn't working, he gives her a sheepish smile.

“You don't have to worry. Honest. It stings pretty bad, but I can still fight.”

He glances back toward the fighting.

“So what do you wanna do? We can't take them head on, but I bet there's something we can do to help out.”

Terra gave him a nod and she felt a flutter in her chest. He had been so helpful and while she couldn't really understand why, she was almost positive the feeling rising in her chest was happiness.

Her gaze scanned the city with a heavy sigh. She didn't like war but it appeared to follow her no matter where she went. "We need to stop the mages. They will burn the city down."

She wasn't sure if everyone had left their homes but she wanted to protect this place and all the memories that people held here.

He nods in agreement. Even if they can't beat up a whole army, things will still work out if they can just keep the mages from casting so many fires...

"Maybe we can distract them somehow. Or trick them into chasing us and lead them away?"

The only other thing he can think of is essentially guerrilla tactics. Strike fast, then retreat and keep at it until they've made enough of a dent in enemy lines. But that could be dangerous. And he really doesn't want to put her in danger. Or put her through that much fighting, for that matter.

"I don't know where we would lead them.." Terra glanced around at the buildings next to them while her mind worked through a few ideas. She didn't want Bartz to get hurt again and simply charging in wasn't going to stop them from getting hurt in the process.

"What if I lead them here. Were you will be waiting to ambush them?" It was a plan and for the moment it was the best that she could think of.

"Huh? Are you sure?"

It's not that he thinks it's a bad plan, but it sounds risky. What if she got hurt? Or worse? He would never forgive himself. Still... risk is always gonna be a part of this heroism business. And she's strong. He knows she is. Maybe he's being too protective.

"Could be dangerous..."

He's not vetoing her plan, just making sure she's okay with the risk.

She wasn’t thinking of her own safety and so she responded with a quick nod at Bartz’s inquiries. She didn’t have any doubt that she could execute her plan and she knew that he would be there at the right moment. Her eyes glanced around them stopping at a second story window not too far from where they stood.

“Leap from there just as I bring them around the corner.” Terra turned away walking back towards the mages and the fire that raged, not giving Bartz a chance to protest. She knew that she could put out the fires but the mages would only light them again.

“You got it!”

No protests here. Not when she seems so sure of herself. Bartz can't help but smile at her confidence. Maybe he didn't have to be so worried about her after all. He hops up on some nearby rubble and then up to the window. Now that he's in position, he readies his spear and waits.

Terra cast ice at the mages feet before taking off down the street. Her tactic worked and she was quickly running from the five people who came after her. She wasn't very fast but she managed to make it to the designated spot before they caught up to her. One stopped behind and began to cast at her while the other four came into view.

She stopped and turned once more casting blizzard at the ground hoping that it would slip the mages up and not Bartz.

Luckily the job combination Bartz is using is the best possible for agility. He manages to land right in the middle of the group of mages and not even stumble despite the ice.

"Crescent Moon!

And in a fast sweeping motion of his spear strikes all five with a single hit. They're not down, but between that and the blizzard, they're definitely hurting. A few of them retain the presence of mind to start preparing spells.

The one who had begun casting released his spell hitting Terra with fire as she turned towards Bartz. She screamed feeling the flame scorch her skin before dissipating into the air.

Terra gripped her side feeling the pain tingle on the edge of her senses. Her skin smelling of burnt flesh as she began to cast. Her mind was focused on those five mages and even though they were hurt she didn't want them to be able to attack Bartz. This was her idea, she should be the target.

Blizzard raced from her finger tips encasing two of the mages before she fell to her knees panting. How much magic has she used?

"Terra!"

The mage that hit her with that fire spell is really going to wish he hadn't. Moving faster than they probably thought he could Bartz jumps, just barely dodging a flame spell sent his way, and brings his spear down hard on his foe. The mage goes down. And with two more frozen, the others are looking pretty nervous. Bartz plants himself firmly between them and Terra. Without taking his eyes off the enemies, he calls back to her.

"You okay? Can you stand?"

"Yes. I'm fine." She wanted him to stay focused and not pay any attention to her. She swallowed the pain and faced the last two mages casting lighting down from the sky. One dodged to the side while the other fell to the ground.

Terra gripped her side tightly keeping her eyes in front of her as the battle raged on.

With a few well placed strikes Bartz is able to take to the remaining mage down on his own. But it looks like they've about reached their limit. Bartz shoulders his spear again and walks over to Terra.

“I think we've done what we can in this fight. We should probably go.”

And since she looks like she's hurting pretty bad, he doesn't want to just grab her and pull her along. So he reaches out and very gently picks her up, princess style. And then it's time to get to safety.

“Let me know if anything hurts, okay?”

Terra instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck worried that she might fall from his grasp. She really wasn't used to people picking her up and she whelped in surprise as he began walking away from the fires.

"A-alright."

She wasn't sure if she was ready to stop fighting but she wasn't in very good shape to continue so she let Bartz carry her away without any struggle. Her eyes watching the fires fade into burning glows in the distance.

Once they're a safe enough distance away, he'll stop and set her down gently.

"There. We should be alright here."

Bartz glances back in the direction of the battle. It's hard to tell the state of the conflict from this distance, but there does seem to be fewer fires than before. He flashes her a grin.

"Hey, that plan of yours was pretty good. I think taking out those mages made a real difference."

Her gaze followed his to the flames hoping that there wasn’t anyone still left in those burning buildings. It was amazing and terrifying how fast fire would spread. He pulled her attention away from her musings with his boyish smile. She was glad that it went well and that he wasn’t hurt any more than that first attack that he had shielded her from.

“Yes.” Terra didn’t know what else to say. She could feel her heart beat frantically drumming within her chest even though the battle was so far form them now. It would be foolish to try and do more but she couldn’t shake the images of flames from her mind.

He lets his gaze drift back to the flames. He can tell the whole thing has still has her pretty shaken up. Turning back to her again, he rests a hand on her shoulder.

"Don't worry. There were a lot of heroes out there. Fighting with us. There's no way our side's gonna lose."

Bartz is able to say that with genuine confidence. He's good at believing in other people.

"Your right."

Terra smiled up at Bartz grateful for everything that he has done for her even if she wasn't the girl her remembered.
