Summary: A letter from Artemicion calls the Heroes of Light for help! Little do they know that they will inadventenly become trapped in the Magitek Facility. The OOC Post for detailed explanations can be found here.

[Nope. Sorry, Baralai, that's not good enough. Snow knows recklessness when he sees it. He can smell his own.]

You ever stop to think that maybe it was locked away in this room for a reason? Hell, look around you. This whole place is like a wasteland, and whatever did this is still here. That's how Jessie got taken in the first place.

[In the end, though, Snow knows he probably can't out-logic Baralai. Even with 500 years of politicking under his belt, it's still not his strongest suit, but that doesn't mean he won't try.]

If this thing was an experiment? It probably failed.

[His brow creases in thought. He's thinking about that very carefully and with the thought that some documentation must be around to explain it. He relents, for now, to Snow's assessment.]

We'll find Jesse first. She's our priority. Perhaps she can shed some light to this crystal. Along the way, I'll see if I can find some documents to further aid us in understanding what has happened here.

I'll note that the crystal is a variant of an unknown force and should we leave this place, we'll leave together. I would like to learn more of its origins and I certainly can't do that if I'm dead or if my memories are wiped.

[At least he's willing to try another alternative. He bends down to pick up his book and steps toward the door to exit the warehouse. To Baralai, the emotional impact isn't in admission but rather just something to consider.]

[Snow lets out a sigh in palpable relief. He hadn't expected that to work. Maybe he'd been projecting too much of himself from the get-go, but honestly, it didn't matter to him so long as Baralai was still alive and breathing. He follows after him, but only so far as the doorway.]

Sounds good. Let's tell the others to keep an eye out for things, too. Five people looking are more likely to find something than just one, right?

[Against his better judgement, he glances over his shoulder back at the crystal. He understands where Baralai was coming from, to an extent. The curiosity is already eating at him. There's something... magnetic about the crystal, and he can't help but wonder what the hell it is, either, or what would happen if one of them touched it. Fortunately, he's just stubborn enough to pull himself away from that kind of a trap, at least for now.]

[The pull is still tugging at him to go back to the crystal but the fact that he's needed alive for now is more important. He'll focus on the immediate needs first and information is a need he must have. He looks back toward Snow and creases his brow.]

Snow, thank you.

[The gratitude is a sincere one and he hopes it's enough to pull Snow out of what's pulling him back. He falls in step with Snow to leave the area.]

One set of eyes is fine but five are better, true.

[It's a lot like the Crimson Squad Selection Exercise in the Den of Woe. Something was in there that pulled people into killing each other and Baralai had enough sense to fight the force that nearly possessed him to kill his best friends. This is no different than back then.]

I suppose I lost myself a little. But I must ask, you said that you had experience in what just happened. Can you tell me what that was or is it none of my business?

[It seems that the crystal has opened the door for him to at least try to learn about the man that saved his sanity.]

[The honest display of gratitude is what pulls him out of his trance, more than anything else. Snow isn't used to being thanked, especially for something as small as this. At least, he thinks it's something small. Talking someone down from a potentially dangerous situation isn't exactly heroic in his book. It's what any normal person would've done in that situation. Isn't it?

Snow offers Baralai a sad smile. He wants to tell him -- really, he does. He's wanted to talk about it for a while now, but every time he tries, he just... can't. Whenever he tries, it's like the part of his brain that connects his thoughts to his voice doesn't work anymore, and he can't utter a single word about it.

Instead, he merely places his hand on his shoulder, as a friendly (and possibly even comforting) gesture.]

Maybe one day, buddy. Maybe one day.

[To Baralai, it was big. While he never discovers what the crystal really is, at the very least he's alive to say that he heard the voice. What that voice was and who spoke to him may never come to pass either, other than it sounds familiar and it acts as a warning.

The small gesture of comfort seems almost superficial but he can't claim that without knowing the man more. His eyes look toward the hand of the larger man with a watered down smile. He didn't want to be rude, it wasn't in his nature.]

I look forward to it.

[He nods and walks toward the door.]

We will find them. [another nod at Ib with a soft smile - Genesis found the idea of him being someone to look up a little odd but that was how it goes when the other two were not around - and followed after Link. ] Don't worry; they will be fine.

[ of course, that was if they did not trigger something with poking around something they did not understand. Genesis tucked away his apple-shaped crystal and fell into step, keeping an eye on Ib while they worked their way along the hall. even without Mako-enhanced senses, he was still a SOLDIER, and that meant being prepared. so when he heard footsteps behind them, he half turned, his Rapier drawn and pointing at Baralai. ]

Decided to join us, have you?

[His hands lift straight up and high above his head as a sign of surrender. The sword drawn isn't a friendly sign in his mind but he's not in the mood for confrontation either. He lowers them slowly after he gulps down the lump in his throat.]

It would seem that way, yes.

[At the very least, he's not upset with Snow, but rather his own stupidity that he nearly made a grave mistake.]

[Ib lets out a sigh of relief when the other two rejoin them unexpectedly. Good. She's really glad they didn't have to leave them behind. Bad things happen when you have to split up.]

Which door should we try next? Maybe that one?

[She points to one of the doors in the middle of the corridor.]

Ah, good. This is not the place to split up so recklessly.

[ he sheaths his sword and turns back to Ib, looking at the door as well. ]

Let's. Perhaps we will be lucky and the door will contain nothing more harmful than paper.

[He listens to what they are saying and oddly agrees. He feels slightly awkward but he quickly pushes that down the moment Genesis' sword is put away. There's a sense of relief just then and it shows as a heavy sigh.]

I agree. If we can find something that we can use that might help find Jesse and reunite with the others, I'll be glad to see it.

[ Beyond that door, there is a laboratory. It seems to be where the black crystal they just saw was being studied before being placed in containment. The place is desolate and a mess, it looks as though a fight broke there: broken pieces of equipment, broken crystals and papers are everywhere.

Some papers speak about the black crystal they just saw. It appears they were experimenting on the crystal in the hope to draw energy out of it. ]

[Link looks over what little evidence they're able to find. He's seen machinery like this before, sealed away and left to the hands of time to deteriorate and break down. Seems as though something far worse than years have broken apart the equipment inside.]

Energy? Why would they be trying to draw energy from these things? Just looking at them makes me uneasy..

[Ib is looking over the mess with a frown.]

What a awful mess....

[She pokes at one of the broken pieces of equipment.]

Who broke all this stuff? And why?

[ While they are in this room, they can hear a door slamming shut outside-- Specifically, the room where the black crystal is was just closed, whether it closed on its own or someone did it is unknown without further confirmation. ]

Perhaps it is not a 'who' but a 'what'. That crystal was pulling towards you, correct?

[ he didn't wait for a response, but instead was gathering the papers together. he might be a Red Mage right now, but his primary Job was that of a Scholar. there would be time later to read these notes when they weren't exploring this place looking for the three missing people.

then his plan changed at the sound of the door slamming shut. ]

I think that we are not alone any more.

I don't think we're alone here. It looks like someone beat us to this place.

[Baralai is on edge from the last time he encountered the crystal. He whips around the moment that door slams shut. He's already on his guard and immediately uses his ability as a Scholar to use Scan to see if there is anything else here.]

[The grip on Link's blade tightens to the point where his palms begin to perspire. The uneasiness in the air is infectious, and it leaves the boy from the clouds in a state of alertness not unlike his companions.]

.. Well, whatever "what" is, let's hope it has some sort of manners to guests.

[Ears listen closely to the walls, to the faintest utterance and echo that might reverberate through the facility. While his ears are only slightly better than the average human's, Link is by no means on par with a hound or even a rodent. Part of the Knight's training had made him focus keenly on knowing basic survival skills, and listening closely to one's surroundings was one of those paramount skills to learn.]

[ Whatever is happening in the room with the black crystal isn't silent: it sounds as though someone is casting some manner of spell, the after-effects of the spell being heard from where they are. It would be possible to re-open the door, but it would have to be slammed open this time. ]

[Ib rushes back into the hallway but hesitates when she catches sight of that closed door. She isn't sure she wants to open it.]

But that crystal might be dangerous! Whoever it is, shouldn't we warn them?

[It hasn't occurred to her yet that they might be well aware of the danger, or even that they could be stealing the crystal or something equally nefarious.]

And what if it's one of the people we're looking for?

Guess we take a chance then?

[He looks to the others, gripping his shield and holding it against his body as he motions his head towards the door.]

Only if the rest of you agree. We'll charge the door and see what's on the other side. Does every one agree or do we get as far away as possible from here?

Or maybe they intend on setting the machine off and then making us deal with what is in there.

[ but Genesis wasn't going to let Ib be a willing target by herself. huffing slightly, he steps up to her side and shrugs.]

Better stepping into this willing than meeting it blind.

If there's even a tiny chance we could save someone, we should try.

[Trying to look much braver than she feels, she squares her shoulders, takes a deep breath and faces the door.]

Let's go.

[Link braces himself, following the young woman while looking to both Genesis and Baralai.]

On your count, gentlemen. Let's ram the door!

[ If they do ram the door, they will find a man in the room, holding the Black Crystal they were so afraid of just moments ago. he doesn't seem to be holding it in a natural way however, the Crystal seems to be surrounded by a spell, that gives the Crystal a white outline, probably the reason why he is able to hold the Crystal. ]
