"Where else would I go but into battle?"

Genesis snapped his book closed and dropped it into a pocket of his abused coat before fetching out another potion and tossing it to Sephiroth. He took out one for himself, the drink inside twice as strong thanks to his Scholar skills. He had stock piled several different potions before heading to battle - from ones that would cure various illnesses to ones that would boost the casting energy of those around him, he had them all. But he also knew that it would not last, and so was only going to spare a few to someone with skills like Sephiroth or someone that could help in backing those skills.

"One more thing," he said, reaching out to add another boost to the first. Enlightenment for strength that may cut through armor and give Sephiroth a taste of what he missed from home. "Shall we show them why you were so feared in battle?"

That particular wave was over, but the hum of battle still resounded in the air all around. Sephiroth knew that it would be a matter of only a few moments before the next cluster came in to try and advance where he had halted the last group.

He caught the potion hurled at him, with one hand, taking advantage of the speed boost that Genesis had already granted him and used the edge of his thumb to force the stiff dragon-like face guard up so that he could uncork and drink the same. There was little point in denying the sigh that rose up as the liquid went down.

He had no words to answer the first of Genesis' questions but the tingling cool of the Enlightenment buff was noticed more as it was cast. There weren't anything else drawing Sephiroth's attention away after all; he felt pumped, as if fresh from an exercise but more energized. It was, indeed, about as close as the magic in this World might grant him to be the mako-infused being he once was. From behind the face guard as it was lowered again a smirk spread; now forgetting the fatigue momentarily as trampling noise sounded closer than before.

"You talk as if it were ever in question." His gruff comment was laced with a light hint of sarcasm as he stepped around Genesis and in the direction that he could hear the fighting spark up again. A moment later, and a fireball issued in their direction was side-stepped perfectly.

"Let's do this." And with that, his grip tightened once more around Masamune's hilt and the silver-topped soldier advanced again into the next battle.

"Lead on, old friend."

At another place and time, those words would have been mixed with a sneering bitterness at being reduced to a secondary position. He had been a hot-tempered youth and to not be able to fight side-by-side with Sephiroth would have damaged his pride. But now Genesis knew that sometimes he had to accept being only support, and that his skills may not be a match for Sephiroth in this battle. He can however help to make sure to give support where it was needed and that was worth more than being just another warrior.

He pulled out his book again, the tome's pages rippling as it rose up over his hand and colors swirled around them. His potion had been one to boost his mana, boosting his casting skills and boosts. So first came Libra as he followed Sephiroth to the next cluster of enemies, and then came Flare centered around the head Black Mage.

He was already too far into the next fray to really have registered Genesis' comment and even then his focus wasn't on picking apart the subtleties of dialog - it was 110% on the battle going on all around.

Still, the difference in having Genesis support him when compared to how he had been starting to struggle beforehand, was blatantly apparent. Everything about his technique had been given a certain edge back; his evades were that much quicker to execute, his blocks that much sturdier. Sephiroth found he had to turn his face away as Masamune cleanly carved through not only armor but unleashed a spray of crimson into the air as a limb came flying off one of the Heran Warriors as the man went screeching to the floor only to be silenced quickly under a sharp boot.

This. This was how he remembered battle, and in particular his flawless bearing within it, was supposed to be. It was difficult not to fall into the overconfidence that came with his tuned-up power but at the same time there were no pulling punches - that is, Sephiroth knew well that he couldn't afford even a single moments hesitation as he continued to cut down the fighters that cut him off from the mages at the back.

Flare pulsated outward and then apparently imploded, it's non-elemental damage cutting the head mage off at the moment that it cast it's latest Fire spell. Sephiroth managed to turn-step his stance away from the bright swell of power that might have otherwise sent dots across his vision. His dragon-like mantle nodded solemnly at Genesis before sweeping past him to take down a warrior that had seen an opportunity behind the Scholar.

There were more mages to target, but Genesis was having to step out of the way of a few more warriors that were taking advantage of Sephiroth's move. He was a liability - Scholars were a weak combat class after all - but he wasn't that weak, something that a warrior found out as Genesis brought Rapier around to black a blow meant for his head. He was still out-classed. Sheer knowledge and training only took one so far in this world after all; he just did not see reason to switch over to Red Mage just for a whim.

But the moment worth of breathing room he had only gave Genesis time to snap his book closed and use it to smack the warrior across the face. And when that person yanked his sword away and tried again, he already was using another spell, this one Wind, blowing the warrior back and giving him room.

"How annoying," he muttered and casted Flare next.

As Genesis blocked an attack with his Rapier, Sephiroth ducked low in his stance and swept his legs low; taking that warrior down onto his front before butting the pommel to Masamune firmly on the back of his head. Hard enough to knock the helmet away and take the fighter out for the count. It wasn't a killing blow on it's own, but if the building went up the way they were trying to make it, there would be no escape.

Just in time to deliver a long-reaching kick out to a third warrior who came behind the one that Genesis smashed over the face with his book, then dismissed away with a strong gust of wind-magic. In another time and place Sephiroth would have chuckled heartily at that maneuver, considering his once-friends' bookworm habits, but in the midst of battle his attention was needed elsewhere.

Sephiroth followed to slash once more across the warriors path as Flare exploded again - keeping them within range of the spell.

"I should imagine so, hardly the Job one would have considered for you." He uttered as the spell earned them both a few seconds respite before the next wave charged in. Sephiroth's voice sounded noticeably croaky in that comment and was followed by a short, dry cough from beneath the helmet. Inside his armor, it had already become uncomfortable several hours beforehand but it wasn't as if they had the time to stop.

Sephiroth took two steps forwards and then executed Leap - vanishing off up and out of sight for a few seconds before landing behind the front line of enemies advancing. Masamune was swung in a smooth, full circle as he knocked that line to their fronts as well as causing the back line to recoil and have to rethink their attack pattern. The mages were just back out of sword-range-
