When: July 27th - August 03rd, twenty-eight years in the past.
Summary: As the Heroes of Light were transported to the past, they now have the possibility explore Aqures Tosf and take part in the events that ultimately led to their arrival in Crystallis. Feel free to start your own threads with your own prompts for everything your characters will do during this week! Please look at the OOC Post for information as to what can be done in the city and for what is happening during the Festival of Light!

[Cloud looks concerned when he hears that Ventus passed out but then he brightens up a little when he's pressed for more about Zack.]

Yeah. He's my best friend. Back home, but he also showed up here. [He frowns briefly.] He turned to crystal not long after and he's still asleep. I wish he was here with us. I'm sure he'd know what to do about Sephiroth and Kalki and all this other stuff.

[Cloud curls his knees to his chest.] He always wanted to be a Hero. And it looks like I'm carrying on for him here too.

[The mention of a best friend makes Ven smile -- he always likes hearing people talk about their close ones -- only to shoot Cloud a frown when crystal stasis comes up.

That's too bad... he sounds like someone Ven would li--]

Huh? [Despite himself, Ven turns towards Cloud a little more with a grin, ignoring the way it agitates his leg.] Hey, hold on -- I know someone just like that! Zack -- who wants to be a true hero -- are you guys from a world called Olympus?

[Cloud can't help but jerk back a bit as Ven turns him, his own muscles shouting in protest as well.]

Huh? No. Our world is Gaia. I left my hometown to join the military, I wanted to be a hero, like the famed SOLDIER First Class, Sephiroth. A lot of kids joined up for that reason too. I was just fit to be a grunt though.

[Cloud shuffles, trying to get comfortable again.]

I almost gave up hope, lost sight of my dream. Then I met another First Class named Zack. We met on a mission where our helicopter crashed in the mountains. It was up to us country boys to get the mission back on track.

[A brighter smile than one he's worn lately creeps onto his face.]

He always had my back. He wanted everyone to be the best they could be.

Hm... that does sound like him, but I met him in Olympus. There was this guy there, a trainer of true heroes -- the Zack I met wanted to get trained on how to be one. He was pretty excited about it. [To put it lightly.

Still... Zack couldn't have jumped worlds, could he?]

But... if he's here in crystal stasis, he must've shown up in the last few months, right? And I just saw him right befo--

[Ven immediately cuts himself off as he remembers. Right... the time gap. It didn't feel that long for him, but for everyone else...]

...Never mind. It was a long time ago. [After a short pause, his mood picks up again.] Well, anyway -- I guess I'll have to visit the hospital when we get back. Even if it's not the same guy, he sounds like a really good friend.

Huh? Maybe it was a different Zack? The one I know has a big sword and spiky black hair. And he likes to do squats a lot.

[ Cloud strokes his chin as he tries to figure this out.]

When we get back I'll show you his crystal statue. I don't think time in our worlds really affects things here though. I'm from an earlier point in Gaia's timeline than anyone else from my world.

[He decides not to mention that the shared dream they experienced a month back gave him memories of a future version of himself. He's taken it all as a warning, not what is promised to be.]

But your world is called Olympus huh? Sounds like something out of a story.

[Stare.]

Yeah, that was definitely him! I'm sure of it!

[That or there are two guys named Zack who are freakishly similar, but Ven will put more stock in the chance meeting coincidence than that.]

But... an earlier point? Whoa -- wait, you mean you come from different times?

[That sounds... vaguely familiar, like he might have heard it mentioned in passing, but he obviously never caught on to what it meant.

That's enough of a shock to override that last comment Cloud makes -- although even if it wasn't, Ven would think twice about correcting him. Admitting that Olympus isn't his homeworld is admitting he can world-hop, and that's... still a truth he hasn't decided how to address for the most part. Only a couple people here know about who and what he is -- assuming no one else caught on from what was seen in his talk with Eraqus during his memory playback.]

Uh...yeah.

[A lot of things made Cloud uncomfortable or embarrassed lately but this always felt the worst. It was so completely out of his control and yet he always feels responsible for it anyway.

Sephiroth and I are from an...early point I guess? The others are from...after some things happen. I'm...hoping maybe the future can be changed? But I don't know. As long as we're here things should be different though.

[Sometimes he can't help but wander if he even wants to go back to Gaia.

As for Ventus, he still remembers Ven's memories but the context was lacking. All he saw was a friend in need.]

Huh...

[It sounds totally crazy, but... well. Looking at his life -- both past and present -- Ven can't be quick to write much off as too crazy to be believed. Besides, different worlds move at their own times, so maybe this has something to do with that? Some kind of mistake when Cloud and his friends were brought here, maybe...

...The more Ven tries to make sense of it, though, the more he becomes convinced that he can't think of a straight answer. Not at the moment, anyway.]

That's definitely weird. But... changing the future, huh? [That would be convenient. If Terra and Aqua ever showed up here from an "earlier point"... could he warn them? Could he maybe prevent everything that transpired years ago? It would be tempting, he can immediately tell.] ...Maybe so.

[He smiles at Cloud. He won't ask what would need to be changed in his case.]

I don't see why not. We came through time to do something here, right? Maybe it can work outside this world, too.

[Cloud nods but his face remains unsure.] I hope so. But Sephiroth keeps telling me to leave it alone. Tifa, Yuffie and Vincent don't talk too much about it either.

[He sighs and shakes his head.]

Sometimes I feel like they'd rather have the future me around instead of me. Maybe he'd have a better plan of what to do about all of this too. [He waves his hand vaguely at the room. The other him is supposed to be this great hero, right? He would have been able to save more people in Aqures Ixen.]

[That... definitely doesn't sound good, does it?

But Ven's quick to shake his head at that latter remark.]

Well -- I don't know the future you, but I'm glad I got to meet the present you. If they're your friends, I'm sure they're glad, too -- to have you around no matter what time you come from.

[His smile turns a little wistful, a little distant, and the way his voice falls suggests he's talking to himself next.]

I know I would be.

[Even if he couldn't change anything... he'd be glad to see anyone from his world. Even if he befriends every person in Crystallis, that won't replace what's missing.]

[Cloud listens to Ven's words. He guesses that the boy is right. His friends do worry and care about him. Maybe they're being a little too careful around him but it's because they care.

He's about to respond when he catches Ven's last comment. His growing smile falters for a moment, wondering what the other Hero is thinking about...but it's obvious isn't it. He misses his own friends.

Leaning over, Cloud gives Ven's shoulder a friendly punch followed by an encouraging nod.]

If Zack ever wakes up we should all go on an adventure together. And if your friends show up I'd like to meet them.

[That breaks him from his more solemn thoughts. Ven looks over again with another smile, confident once more.]

Yeah! It's a plan! [He gives a short laugh after a moment, as if at some inside joke.] Although... he told me to visit him again once he became a hero. I hope it's not too soon for that.

[It doesn't matter how many years it's been. The sass will never stop.]

[Cloud can't help but laugh.]

I'm not sure how to tell when you've become a hero, but Zack is a good guy and he never stops trying. And I don't think he'd even use being called a hero as an excuse to stop trying to get better.

[A very fond and happy smile stays on Cloud's face as he looks off into the distance.]

And he's my best friend. And he was trying to help me meet my dream too.

[Ven's grin lingers. He didn't know Zack long, but that try-hard-and-care-little attitude sounds like him, for sure.]

Heh, well... the whole time thing here aside, it's been a long time since I saw him. I might have some catching up to do. [More like will almost certainly. Time waited on Ven in some regards while he slept, but the worlds kept turning nonetheless.]

Your dream, huh... So you both share that dream? Wanting to be heroes?

Yeah, pretty much. I mean we're both from backwater towns, and that was the dream. Go to Midgar, become a SOLDIER First Class like Genesis, Angeal and the Great Sephiroth. It was that or stay out in your little town and live a little life. [Cloud missed home, but he still hated Nibelheim in that way teens do.]

Of course, not everyone had what it took to be a SOLDIER, let alone first class. Zack got into the program but I was still a grunt when we met.

[Ven gives a soft laugh, the kind that's as much sympathy as it is amusement.] Yeah... I know that feeling. [Now, though... he'd gladly take his little life in the castle back.]

Heh, I'm glad, though -- it sounds like he's doing what he wanted to. I'm sure you'll get there, too, Cloud.

[Cloud smiles sheepishly.]

In a way I already am. I mean I'm definitely stronger in this world than I was back home. But that's not really the same.

[He looks out at the room around them.]

But for now, this is okay.

[Ven follows the look.]

...Yeah, I think you're right. We're as strong as we need to be -- if we're not, we'll get there. And if we don't... well, that's why there's more than one of us. So we can work together.

[Cloud looks over again at Ventus and just smiles. The words sound a lot like what Zack would say. Encouraging and making him remember that he's not on his own.

Zack isn't here. And Tifa, maybe that would work out in time. But there's other people encouraging him in the meantime.

So for now, this is okay.
