Characters: All characters who signed-up for the event.
Where: In their heads.
When: January 15th.

Yeah. That's pretty much it.

[She's not going to finish the sentence for Cloud, because she's fairly certain that he's got the right idea. And hopefully she's also imparted the notion that it's never too late to believe in hope. All Chiaki herself can do at this point is to give advice, after all. It does take her a while to answer his question, though.]

...Probably. But I'm satisfied with that. I left the world in good hands.

[Chiaki smiles, her expression one of genuine satisfaction and gratitude. She fulfilled her purpose. That's really all she could have hoped for in the first place.]

I'm sure Sephiroth must have felt the same way when he sacrificed himself to close the Rift.

[A bit sudden, maybe, but she does have something to say about that.]

He left the world - and his hopes for it - in your hands, and in the hands of the other Heroes. So I'm going to give you one last question to think about, Cloud. You don't have to answer me right away, but I do want you to consider it.

[She pauses briefly, as if to give proper weight to what she's about to say next.]

Are you sure that what you're doing now is the right way to honor his memory?

[Cloud's face tightens at that question. It's one that's rattled around in his head before, and it's been asked of him in different ways by different people in the past two years. And the answer has always been yes.

Or at least that's what he told himself. Somewhere along the way he started to push the question aside rather than answer it. His 'Yes' was less assurance and more indignity at being asked the question.

And now...he can't even bring himself to say it. His face on the other hand gives Chiaki the answer she wants. He doesn't know. He's done everything he can and everything has slipped out of control and out of his grasp. It's not his fault that the Heroes broke apart but it's still a weight that lays heavily on his shoulders along with all the other burdens he's sworn to carry.

A breaking point is coming. But until that time he's going to stand his ground on his last hill and defend it with all his might.

After a moment of his silence he leans forward.
]

Goodbye Chiaki. I hope I can talk to you again when this is done.

[He turns off the computer, not waiting for her reply.]
