One day he will be a mad scientist

WHO: Ales Mansay and you!
WHAT: Ales spends a lot of time in January doing his own research and helping out in Palitutu's lab
WHEN: Various dates in January
WHERE: Around Aqures Ixen, Mysidia
Castle of Aqures Ixen (January 6)
The days after the Heran prison mission were stressful. No matter what the outcome would have been, Ales would have to be careful not to draw suspicion to himself, and the best way to do it was to take as many airship jobs as possible this month when not working on research. But before then, he needed to grab something from the castle. Kobato had been kind enough to request that one of Ales' blueprints be brought back as a reward for her work in repairing the Village of Santa Claus. It was only the right thing to take advantage.
Ales exited Cid's room with a large smile and a thick, blue sheet of paper rolled under his arm. The past few weeks found him too busy to grab this earlier, but now...now his work could truly begin.
Laboratory, January 6-7, 11-13
While not piloting the flight to Trano Golaucia and back, Ales spent the whole time with the blueprints, the notes Chiaki sent him, and Sephiroth's notes to one of the workshops. Rebuilding the personal helicopter wasn't difficult, but it was time consuming, and once the propeller and housing was constructed, he'd have to figure out to utilize the crystal energy converter in order to complete his invention.
Mimi was sent away, as he needed all this time to himself. Instead, his puppet stood nearby, which was called whenever Ales needed an extra pair of hands to hold things down. All chairs were pushed outside the room, with only one to use as a footstool and help Ales climb onto the workbench, where the beginnings of the mini helicopter were taking form.
The Enterprise and Mysidia library, January 14-17
The moment the schedule to Mysidia was put up, Ales reserved a spot for himself. Of course, as a Captain, he had one of the best rooms to stay in. It was pointless, in a sense, but he needed to spend time in those libraries. For the entire flight, Ales remained in his personal quarters going through the notes on crystal energy. He was almost there, he could taste it. With all the work he put into researching how airships functioned, it had to pay off.
Once on the Lost Continent, Ales ran to the research institutes to read up on anything related to crystals and ancient technology. The Aqures Ixen Library was helpful, but provided nothing on energy theory in this world.
Ales grabbed a nearby wheeled footstool and ran down the aisle containing books on the relevant topics, prompting a few glares from the other patrons and a "shhh!" from the librarian. It wasn't his fault the wheels weren't greased well. Whatever. He had his books and all the time to copy down notes. Claiming one of the tables as his own, spread the books all over the surface and began jotting down every diagram he could find.
Palitutu's Lab, January 23-30
Between working on his small crystal engine and reviewing his notes on Ancient technology, Ales takes his usual seat at the research facility and goes through Palitutu's notes. While working as a research assistant was tiring, it's rewarding work. But that's not what he was interested in.
When he finished his file, he hopped out of his seat and headed to the room where other researchers were looking at Heran technology. His puppet following closely behind, Ales walked down the hallways with his head up.
