[Short and sweet, nothing glamorous about his past or the weight he was carrying.]

I'm Link, from the town of Skyloft. I'm a graduate of the Knight's Academy. Before this world, I was searching for a friend. Currently, I'm living with said friend here in the city.

[There's a tiny split-second of hesitation on Snow's end. Oh god we're giving titles, too? He's held quite a few over the years, but in recent days his biggest claim to fame is that he owns a motorcycle and isn't dead yet.]

Snow Villiers. I've done a little bit of everything, but I guess you could say I'm retired now. [Yeah... 'retired'... let's go with that.]

Here? They made me a Monk. No big changes on my end. Never used a weapon more reliable than my own two hands.

[A general? A knight? Someone who has done a little bit of everything? Ib doesn't even know what a Praetor is but it sure sounds like something important. She fidgets a little, wondering how much help she can really be. She doesn't really have a fancy title or useful skills to mention. But it's her turn now, so she better say something.]

I'm Ib.

Um, I'm a Red Mage here. It's nice to meet you.

"So, you can cast magic? I'm sure that'll be really helpful soon enough. Something tells me we aren't going to be in and out of this place without running into some sort of trouble."

Link steps lightly, keeping alert as he continues to walk forward down the corridor.

"If anyone sees something out of the ordinary, give a shout. We haven't much time to find these people that the moogle mentioned, so better for us to move on and stay close. Agreed?"

I have always found that the best weapon is your wits.

[ Genesis reached over to lay his hand on Ib's shoulder, smiling a little at her before stepping forward to act as a guard to her. He would be lying if he was to say that he couldn't fight and he knew that the young girl would probably be best as the party's healer than him. ]

Even a child can destroy kingdoms if the kingdom does nothing. So, let us see what awaits us at the end of this hall.

[ There is a door at the end of the corridor. The plate on the door reads: ]

[ There is also a sign that was put against the door hastily reading "Do Not Enter." The door is locked, but the lock does not seem so solid and could be broken very easilly. ]

[The conversation seems to take off in a direction that he's not entirely comfortable with at this moment. He steps away from the group and reads the door by testing the knob. Gippal had taught him a few tricks while they were training together for the Crimson Squad. The old memories of picking at things or testing things for integrity seems to come in handy.]

It's loose. I think we can kick it open. Any volunteers?

[verteidiger]

[Snow steps up to the mark without so much as a second thought. Breaking things with brute force? Yeah, he's good at that. Even when he doesn't mean to be.]

I guess that's part of the job description, huh?

[He jimmies the handle a bit. From the looks of it, he probably wouldn't even have to use a kick to get it open, which is fine by him. A kick would be much louder, and he's not exactly keen on the idea of attracting everything that's lurking in these hallways all at once.

He turns the handle as hard as he can and slams his shoulder into the door. It gives way and breaks beneath his massive weight and sends him stumbling inside. Only belatedly does he hope that there's not some kind of terrible trap waiting for him on the other side. What do you mean, Snow makes bad decisions?]

[Ib smiles back at Genesis, grateful that he isn't just writing her off as a kid. Well, she is a kid, but she's also a hero of light. And she's going to do her best to live up to that.

She.... can't really help them break the door down though. But it looks like Snow has that covered. Ib tenses up slightly when the door gives way. Who knows what could be in there...]

[ When the door is slammed open, it reveals a small room-- It seems there is some sort of machine at the center of the room, with a Black Crystal floating over it. There crystal glowers, a purple hue surrounding the Crystal being the only source of light in this room.

Judging by the glass shards that can be seen all around the machine, the Crystal was most likely contained at some point and the glass broke for unknown reasons. The characters' crystal will glow as well upon entering the room. ]

Whoa.

[Well, that sure as hell looks evil. Snow's not sure why, but the Black Crystal reminds him of Chaos, and that's never good. He takes his own crystal out of his pocket as soon as he realizes it's glowing and holds it up to get a better look.

Being the only one in the room so far, he's not sure what to say. He glances over his shoulder and looks to Baralai, as their Scholar, but he addresses everyone.]

Hey, come look at this.

[Ib peeks into the room cautiously. Something about the crystal's dark glow is making her nervous.]

Wh- what is that?

[Baralai steps forward and stands beside Ib. He's never seen anything like it before and the way the crystal looks doesn't ring any familiar bells but the vibe is certainly a foreboding one.]

It's a crystal but the origins are unclear. It appears to behave like a power source.

[He kneels down to get a closer look at the glass shards without picking them up and frowns in thought.]

Perhaps it has become unstable. It's hard to say what caused the glass to break.

[He's looking closely to see if the shards were forced outward or if the glass was broken by an outside force.]

[ Genesis took a look at the sign. He took a look at the writing on the door and then he made a face as he recalled all the weird stuff that SOLDIERs had to deal with after all the researchers, engineers and scientists got done trying to create new weapons. It didn't matter which person it was, they always had a monster or a machine running rampant that they had no idea it would act that way until after a few dozen assistants and troopers were killed. He did not go into the room, but instead reached out to tug Ib away from the doorway. ]

I would suggest that we do not all go into the room and stand around gawking at it but instead come out of there before it decides to come alive again.

[ He took out his crystal and held it out, his lips curling at the soft purple glow. It was not a very pleasant grin. ]

Since something is causing these crystals to react.

[He takes his own crystal out and looks at it closely. His eyes widen from the change in color.]

Could it mean that something is coming? I wonder...

[He logged the information away for now and decided not to speak more on it but his own curiosity as a Scholar is getting the best of his rational thought. This means to him that something must be tested and so he starts to move toward the danger.]

There's only one way to find out.

[Ib allows herself to pulled away from the door. Honestly, she doesn't want to get any closer to that thing anyway. Being outside the room now, she doesn't notice their Scholar moving toward it. She looks up at Genesis.]

Um, the people we're trying to find aren't here. Maybe we should look somewhere else?

[ As Baralai moves toward the crystal, he will feel instinctively attracted to it, nearly as if the black crystal compelled him to grab it. But before he can do so, a voice will ring in his head, strong and alarmed: ]

Don't take it!

[ The voice soon fades. He may recognize it as the same voice that told him to Wake Up when he first arrived in Aqures Ixen. If other characters approach the Crystal, they will not hear the voice.

Warning: If Baralai or another character grabs the black crystal, there will be grievous consequences for them. ]

That voice...

[He freezes in place and as much as he's trying to fight off the urge to take the black crystal, he's caught between finding a result and doing exactly what the voice is telling him to do. It's much like his study of Vegnagun. The closer he is to finding a solution, no matter the risks, the more drawn he is to know more.

He has questions. Lots of them and they all needed answers. He finds it hard to hold back but he hasn't moved either while he struggles with all the what-ifs and could-haves if he does or doesn't do something.]

What? Why?

[Good or evil, Baralai believes that he can do so much to help his team and the world by becoming a catalyst if he must.]

[Having not heard the voice, Link simply looks to his new companion with a worried stare. He himself had long held inner dialogue with the spirit of the Master Sword, but not knowing what it was that Baralai was speaking of left the Skyloftian curious and worried.

Taking a few steps towards the other gentleman, Link's grip on his sword loosens as he points the tip of the blade towards the ground.]

Something wrong? A voice, you said?

As someone who has had some encounters with a voice no one else hears save yourself, I think you should not do anything and come away from there at once.

[ granted, it was not Genesis himself who had a voice calling him from an unknown source, but he had seen the results of such a thing. he watched as a man that he held in high regard - yes, he was irritated and sore about some things, but Sephiroth was still a man to admire - fell into the ravings of a madman before starting a path of genocide. that he didn't get far wasn't the point; Genesis did not trust voices inside the head or sudden urges. ]

We should look at the other doors, as Ib has suggested.

[Baralai knows they're both right and he can't deny that there's a sense of intricate design behind the physical. He's keen on the fact that some things are just better left alone but in this case, he needs to know and the pull is even stronger now to test those boundaries.

He retracts his hand for a moment, but his eyes are still on the black crystal.]

Just a moment. I'll catch up to you in a little while.

[He opens his book to see if there are any texts written about it, even if the pages don't tell a literal translation. He can extrapolate the meaning through another way of thinking and that's through reading between the lines as if there is some hidden code that is waiting to be deciphered.]

B- but we're looking for some people right? What if they're in trouble?

[In truth that's only half the reason she wants to move on. That glowy crystal is creeping her out. And head voices are never a good thing.]

We should hurry up and find them. We can study things later, right?

[She hopes....]

[Link nods to Baralai as he finally makes his way out of the room, looking left and right to find his bearings. Traversing this warehouse seemed almost impossible without a compass or a map.]

Not sure if we'll have time to do that. Stay safe, Baralai. Don't do anything if it seems risky. We'll continue ahead and see if we can't find the others.

Stay close everyone. Let's keep moving.

[Baralai knows that he's the weakest link in the chain with fighters. If he can offer information even if it cost him physically, at least it's an answer they can use. He nods toward Link and looks to Ib.]

I'll be alright. I promise. You stay with them and be safe. I don't know how long I'll be, but I'll catch up.

[He offers his best smile with warm thoughts to keep her from worrying. If something were to happen to him, he didn't want anyone to see it.]

[Snow is uncomfortable with this, to say the very least. Even if that crystal didn't look evil as all hell, he still wouldn't have been okay with leaving a single person of their group alone in a place like this. Wasn't that how Jessie went missing in the first place?

He takes a few steps forward, wary of getting too close to the thing, but unwilling to back down. The previous comparison he made between the crystal and Chaos is still fresh in his mind.]

Yeah, you guys go on ahead. I'll stay behind with Baralai.
