Mingle Thread || The Enterprise / Pandaemonium

[ Cid and his Enterprise are the means through which the character will finally reach Pandaemonium, and they are not alone! Indeed, Ships from Esdham and soldiers are with them for this task. And upon arriving…

On the surface, Pandaemonium itself looks just like the Imperial City: but with a twist. Besides the buildings being crystallized, the bodies of the former citizens who didn’t have the chance to flee can be seen everywhere around. Some of them look terrified and horrified; others look like they were trying to flee at the very last moment. But judging by the number of crystallized bodies, none of them succeeded. Venturing into the castle would reveal the same desolate spectacles, until finding the way down. Beneath the castle, the Heroes of Light will find a labyrinth made of crystal, with various traps meant to impede their advance, on top of Crystal Monsters getting in their way to kill them… But thanks to the Militaries from Esdham, none of them are an issue. Indeed, the soldiers can be seen fighting the Crystal Monsters left and right or disabling and solving the traps to clear the path for the Heroes of Light.

Finally, they will reach a final flight of stairs protected by a Magitek Barrier. None of the soldiers can go through this barrier, but apparently Heroes of Light can. Their Moogles, unfortunately, cannot go through it either. There is a soldier selling a bunch of potions, ethers and other curatives by the final flight of stairs. Might be a good idea to stock up…

On the deck of the Enterprise, Sonic kicked back on his ehanced Magitek Armor that he got from Palitutu's Lab. This was it - the big fight. He has full confidence in all of this, though.

[Truth be told, Rukia doesn't feel quite right being aboard the Enterprise instead of with her airship crew. It was her job to command her small group of brave men and women, and as anyone who knew Rukia was aware, she took her duties very seriously.]

[But they'd urged her to be with the other Heroes, as they would be working as a cohesive unit, and she was a part of that team too. Begrudgingly, she admitted they had a point, and advised them to be cautious just the same when facing the dangers of the city.]

[She moves about the ship for a little, checking in on any friends who seem particularly uneasy or nervous. But for the most part, those who want to seek her out can find her if they look up. She's perched herself in one of the nets hanging from the masts, placing herself as high up as possible without getting in the way of the crew. She always did like these types of places when she wished to clear her head and sort out her thoughts.]

Pandaemonium

[There never seems to be enough time. Did she choose the right thing, maximizing the Santa Claus job for the sake of the season, rather than ensuring she had all of the White Mage abilities and Archer skills that she should? It's too late for regrets, she knows. Natalia can only hope that her hard work left a positive impact on those she's encountered.]

[Moving into the city with the others, Natalia is exposed to her very first crystallized victim. It brings her to a wide-eyed stop as she lowers her bow. How awful...]

[The white magic washes over the person, but the horrified countenance doesn't change. Her shoulders wilt. Why...? Isn't there anything that can be done?]

[She shakes her head, eyes squeezed shut. There's no time for despair now. Natalia rushes forward, pausing on occasion to stand beside the soldiers and loose a few arrows of her own at the monsters, or to offer healing magic to ensure none of them sustain any mortal injuries. Someone might tell her to save her strength for the battle with Garland, but don't expect her to listen.]

[The last time Ramza had been to the Imperial City, not in dreams or visions, it had been a vibrant city, bustling with life. For all the Empire's sins against its neighbors, it had always ensured its citizens opportunity and prosperity.

And now its people, the ones Ramza had failed to save with his fool's errand at Starlight a year ago, stood frozen eternally in grotesque statues.

Ramza looked the part of a Hero, with his brother Zalbaag's cloak wrapped around his armor and the legendary Excalibur at his side, but seeing the desolation of the city reminded him of his past as a struggling cadet, helpless to quell the unrest in his beloved homeland.

There was nothing in the Hero's power to be done here, and to waste their energy trying could mean they would fall short later, when it really mattered. And in the moments where Bravery could not hope to prevail, one had to rely upon Faith.

He knelt, metal greaves clinking against the crystalline ground, and bowed his head. A heretic's prayer was better for these lost souls than none at all, he hoped.]

[One might not even realize Akane is on the Enterprise at all. She keeps to herself, oddly quiet and out of the way. Was she right to go with Illusionist and White Mage? She doesn't have the extra skills afforded to her had she taken on an Advanced Job, but this way she knows she can keep her brother alive. As much as she deeply appreciates her training with Sephiroth, she's not going to put someone else's life on the line by putting herself at the forefront where she'd be far more incompetent than a seasoned warrior.]

[So to the backlines with the rest of the squishy mages she'll go, to support the team and do what she can to make sure no one dies. That seems like the wisest decision.]

[She's not sure who else is assigned to the cabin she's in, but it seems she's the first one there. The others may not show up here at all. It's not like she's going to get any sleep, that's for sure. Instead she sits on the edge of the mattress, spacing out as she stares down at a tiny doll cradled in her hands.]

Wish me luck, Jumpy.

[She hopes she'll see him again, even if it's in the far distant future where they're both wrinkled and gray. For now, it's her job to keep him and their world safe. Akane can't fail. She closes her eyes and tips her head back, taking a deep breath to focus her mind. Whatever it takes to save everyone.]

[There are better people a Hero of Light could speak to on what could be the eve of their very last fight, should things go sour, than Lust. Accepting her humanity as a true part of herself has not been easy for her, and the changes have not been drastic.]

[But she isn't the same woman she was when she died in her own world, or even the same from four months prior. Facing her Calamity self had changed her, that was true. But she knew without any hint of a doubt that was the unshakable faith, kindness, and loyalty of those who had persisted in befriending her. A foolish thing for them to do, to be sure, but it had stirred feelings of genuine warmth and affection.]

[And that was a very good feeling indeed. It was something she didn't want to lose, and by striding into battle, she was putting herself in a position where she could die and lose all the growth she'd attained. But there was something she hated to lose even more than that, and it was this motivation that produced a strange tranquility inside her that allowed her to move about the Enterprise with a calm smile. Her dark armor gleamed in the dim light of the ship, her thick waves of black hair pulled into a ponytail that was tied back a few inches below her shoulderblades.]

[To attend the fight as a Dark Knight and a Black Mage meant she had no intentions of playing it safe. If she wanted to protect what mattered most to her, then she would have to maximize her destructive powers in the hope of taking down any threat they faced before it ever had a chance to become a threat. It was how she'd fought in the past, why change things now? There were plenty of others who could heal and protect. At her very core, even as a human, she'd always had a much greater talent for killing.]

[Aboard the Enterprise, Ira can be seen leaning against the railing of the ship, overlooking the ground below as they approach the former crown jewel of the empire. For much of the trip, he's oddly silent - almost pensive. Though if any were to approach suddenly, they'd likely spot a glimmer of white felt before he stuck it deep into the pocket of his leather overcoat.

Some things were just better left unsaid. Even Lin agreed, perched on his shoulder as she was.]

[Twilight took notice of the various people stuck in crystal, their faces twisted and contorted in horror. Even though they had reverted the crystalization, Pandemonium hadn't been changed. Twilight shook her head at all of this.]

This is madness. No one should have to suffer this sort of fate.

[On board The Enterprise, Selphie will be found in a state of pure quiet. She's settling her own thoughts about this entire situation and is essentially summing it up like any other mission she'd participated in with SeeD.

They had a job to do.

She was quietly checking over her newer gear that she'd been breaking in over the past few weeks to ensure that was everything was in working order. She'd gotten the knicks in her sabre banged out and the blade sharpened. The targe on her right arm was slightly heavier than her wooden buckler and the mythril vest on her midsection. The matching greaves over the leather shirt and pants she was wearing, gave off a far different appearance than her usual garb of bright yellow.

The only things that may appear to be not different from her usual gear is the nunchaku, Strange Vision is strapped in at the small of her back and there are two pouches on a belt stocked with healing items and held close to her body with leather straps at mid-thigh. She wasn't going into this battle as unprepared as she was for the fight with Ultima WEAPON.]

I can do this. I'm not alone, my friends are with me.

[When they all disembark and enter Pandaemonium however, Selphie was alarmed at the appearance of the citizens who were left behind in the city. It was her first time at the Empire's capital but she shrugs it off before moving forward into the city. Her eyes are scanning her surroundings while she volleys a few spells to help out where she can.]

[Tsubomi let out a small sigh. Waiting on the deck of the Enterprise on the way to Pandemonium, she had a massive amount of swords and bows, all created by her Bearer of Wisdom's Divine Materialization ability before she swapped it out. She wanted to give everyone a fighting chance against such a fearsome foe and made all of them for others to take up. Of course, that drained the hell out of her, so she's trying to rest up and recover before they arrive.]

Are we there yet? It feels like a long trip...

[In contrast to the serious or worried expressions, the latest arrival amongst the Heroes smiled jovially as he tipped his hat to the soldier beside the stairs, handing the good man the little bit of gil he'd received prior to this excursion to purchase a simple ether or two.]

I do hope you return safely, friend. T'would be a shame if you do not get to see the final chapter of this grand tale to it's end.

[To many who do not know him, it would come across as something benign, for that is, surprisingly, all he entailed it to be. For others... well, he wouldn't be surprised if some of the children would misconstrue his intent.]

[Aang stopped by some of the bodies. It didn't feel right that there was nothing he could do. On Heroes, the crystal was... well, theoretically temporary. But these people were just... normal people, who hadn't gotten out of the city. and as far as Aang knew, there was nothing he, personally could change that.]

It isn't right. This whole thing... it has to stop. We have to stop it.

[Tazendra was trying to be serious about the whole thing, despite her growing awareness of the nearness of a life or death battle. What had been the city of Hera had been... not a battle, but a slaughter. If Adron's Disaster had left anything behind, she imagined it would be like this. Save that Dragaera City had but a handful of people who had known the Disaster was coming. They had charted the Calamity, and yet Hera had rather attack Aquares Ixen than tend to its own needs.]

[Tazendra had her Crystal Knight job equipped, and used what magic she had to keep the Edsham soldiers on their feet. It said something that she was holding back from charging into monsters, content, for the moment, to provide support as long as she had ethers to keep her magic up.]

Well, we are almost there.

[On the Enterprise, Saori is dressed in her Assassin's gear with Brigid sulking on her shoulder. The moogle now has a purple omamori charm around her neck. On it, a fox holding stalks of rice in its mouth forms a circle with its tail and the rice is embroidered in white. This won't be good bye but she wanted to leave a memento to her friend. The duo stand on the deck, looking over the horizon.

She has the prized hidden blades of one of the most influential Assassin's of Mary's world, but she also carries on her back a two-handed sword as well as Laguna's machine gun. The sword had a bluish purple hue to it. This was going to be an all out battle, there was no point in holding back.]

Airship Mingle

[Cloud frowns as he stands watch, the airship approaching the mission zone. He looks over Pandemonium, taking it all in, memorizing every detail and steeling it within him. He's going to set this all within him like etching in stone to make sure he's not surprised, but also to not forget.

He shifts, testing his gear and feeling the weight. He's wearing the modified uniform that Levy gave him, padded a bit with some new armor bits to increase the defensive capacity. It's not plate mail but it'll still keep him solid. And then there's also the new shield he's fiddling with on his arm. Even the sword on his back, the one belonging to his future self, looks like it may have been modified a bit.

Most of all, he looks solid. It's not that he's holding up to his airsickness or even premedicated. He's too nervous and too intent on what's coming to feel sick now.]

Mingle Thread || Sephiroth

THE ENTERPRISE
[Despite having his own allocated cabin aboard the Enterprise, Sephiroth spent hardly any of his time in that area that was for restricted personnel only. It would be rude, not to mention excruciatingly unprofessional to closet himself away during this, the final approach.

He'd have happily been deployed with any of the other accompany airships and squadrons, yet Sephiroth had already made arrangements for the majority of his own ground forces to carry out duties back in civilization, in his stead. To a certain extent he found himself lacking in not having those strong men and women behind him this time, yet for the first time in a long time it seems -ever more so as they get closer to what was the Heran Capital- that a larger purpose has started to dawn on him.

A ghost of that time-worn SOLDIER focus starting to slip back into his demeanor. The focus that had been tested untold times during his tenure on Crystallis, and had turned the tables on adversity more times than he'd admit to.]

This is it, then. Garland's fortress.

[Sephiroth spoke lowly but not to anyone in particular. Slightly iridescent green eyes fixed solidly forwards out at the landscape that grew larger before them.]

SECTOR XIII – MILITARY
[Of all the places on Crystallis that Sephiroth might have envisioned he'd ever visit, the Heran Military Headquarters had certainly not made any list at all. They'd been at war with the Herans for so long, after all. They had been the enemy right up until the Calamity had caught up to them. It doesn't take very much effort at all to recall the attempted invasion of Aqures Ixen; his finest hour as a military officer, yet his darkest in terms of the devastation it had left behind.

He'll tell himself later, perhaps, that it gave a sense of closure to walk the halls of the once-enemy and that's why he'd gone to sweep with a small squad and any hero that also wanted to come. Maybe if he repeats that mantra hard enough it'll become truth.

As for right now, Sephiroth stands within one of the larger offices which had to have been for a higher ranking officer, just by the regalia -crystallized but otherwise still in pristine order- dotted around the room. He reaches out just to touch the edge of a picture frame that he's peering down at with something creeping into a frown - the words Admiral Matsya inscribed beneath it. The face seems familiar yet-]

Hm.

[-Prajapati often wears that deep hood, and he's hardly an acquaintance other than in passing sometimes at the Village of Santa Claus as he's on duty. She did attend that meeting but again, they hardly shared a single word. This detail might well get overlooked in the time that they've got to stand around sightseeing...]

Mingle - Pandaemonium (a tiny bit of action)

Mary ran forward, ahead of the soldiers who were clearing the hall. With her Eagle Vision she'd spotted something they hadn't. A trap was being disarmed, but someone had been devious enough to stagger them. "Get back!"

She slid ahead of the engineer, triggering the guillotine trap and then immediately got to her feet as the floor after it fell out. She landed roughly but cleanly against the far wall, gripping an outcropping and gave a gargoyle a hard kick just as a hollow thunk sounded inside it. The statue shifted, jamming the harpoon inside the mouth of the statue before it could launch back at the men behind her. If they'd disarmed the first trap they still might have lost some lives.

"Go around. I'll find my way back." This was clearly a dead end in more ways than one. But now she had to find her own way back to solid ground.

[Aboard the Enterprise, Sparks was sharpening and cleaning up his gunsword. He really didn't know what else to do to keep his mind from wandering over what was ahead. He didn't want to think too much about it. His moogle, Red, clung to his shoulder, uncharacteristically quiet and worried.

To anyone who comes by, he tries to make idle conversation. But he's never been good with small talk, and his head definitely isn't with it now.]

So, how 'bout that, uh... um... Aw, heck. Never mind.

[It'll be hard to find Johnny today not practically attached to Reno today. But if you manage to catch him alone, it will most likely be while looking over the crystal city from the deck of the Enterprise, deep in thought. How many times was he going to stare an apocalypse down in his short life?]

... Y'know, in Exsilium, we did what we thought was right in order to fix the place. Some things got better, some things got worse. But the consequences of all 'a this is way bigger. It's hard for me to tell if we're doin' what we're supposed to be.

[Why did the final dungeons always look so... creepy? Hisui knew talking about it wasn't going to really change the creepiness factor, but it would have made him feel slightly better if people noted it so he knew it wasn't all in his head. But no... he had to have a strong Spiria - heart - to get through anything life would throw at him. He's the only proof that his world ever existed, right here, right now - and he was going to make sure he didn't do the name any harm.]

Let's kick some ass, people!

[Flynn looked ahead, near the front of the vanguard. He wasn't the leader of this group, but he knew that this area was the best position for him to be in. He recognized a few of the faces in passing, but didn't know very many of them that well. It seemed almost silly to start now, but there was no time like the present, was there?]

[Lailah's purpose was to act as support. Her involvement in the world of humans was strictly governed by a particular set of rules - but what point were those rules when nobody might live to see tomorrow? It was selfish of her to ask Mayvin to die, breaking his oath, and she had to come to terms that no matter the consequences, she had to also do what she must in order to ensure a brighter future for everyone as well. Sore, Mikleo, Edna, Yuri, Chrom, everyone... it wasn't just her battle. And her face showed her resolve.]

[ He'd only just arrived in this world, but... it almost feels as though he'd come just in time to help when they needed it the most. While he wishes he could've been here sooner, he'd come to the conclusion a while ago that he'd do what he can while he's here, right now.

As of right now, he can be seen looking over the scenery before them. He's deep in thought right now, thinking about what's to come.

He may not have the powers he had back at home - the power of a shepherd - but... he knows that there's still things he can do in the battle ahead of them. ]
